• It is a process of working through the details of a problem to reach a solution.
• It may include mathematical or systematic operations and can be a gauge of an individual’s critical thinking skills.
• Problem solving technique covers six steps:
1. Defining the problem
2. Analyzing the problem
3. Developing the possibilities
4. Selecting the best solution
5. Implementing
6. Evaluating and learning
Definition- Problem 1
Sharp reduction of campus placement rate over the past 3 years.
Symptoms of problem:
Less number of admissions

Companies coming for recruitment less in number
Less number of placements
Analysis
Brainstorming
Lack of quality teaching

Inconsistent academic record
Inability of students to
express their ideasLack of participation

Pareto analysis
Root causes
1. Students being unable to express their ideas in interview
2.Selection procedure
3. Inconsistent academic records of students
• Studies should be more practical based. Timely projects based on real issues should be given to students.
• Filter candidates using assessments not just resume. The objective of these tests is to filter out those candidates who don’t have the core skills that company require the most.
• Students should maintain consistency in their academic records by regular study rather to study in exams night.
MISSION
To increase the rate of placement to 120%
Suggested remedy:

Job not of their interest
Lack of co-operation
Through survey analysis , the prioritized table is as follows -
s. no. causes frequency Cumulative frequency
1 Job not of their interest 31 31
2 Lack of analytical skills 27 58
3 Student expectations 22 80
4 Old and obsolete knowledge 10 90
5 Lack of co-operation 7 97

• Students should submit their resumes only for positions they are interested in , qualified for & plan to be available to interview for.
• They should enhance their analytical and interpersonal skills by taking part in various upcoming projects.

Suggested remedy:
Root causes
Job not of their interest
Lack of analytical skills
Student expectations during job
Pareto analysis
• It enables to clearly define the problem by combining different information sources and techniques.
• It saves time to carefully structure and present the conclusions.
• It takes time to plan an approach rather than jumping on the conclusions.
