Qadhaa is made only for Fardh and Witr Salaats.

If a person has missed less than six Salaat and no other Salaat besides these are Qadhaa, then before beginning the performance of the next Salaat in its time, Qadhaa of the missed number of Salaat will have to be performed in order. Eg. If a person has missed the Fajr, Zohar and Asr Salaat and no other Salaat besides these are Qadhaa and the time of Magrib has begun, in this case FIRST the Fajr, Zohar and Asr must be performed in order and thereafter the Magrib Salaat should be performed. If there is FEAR that by performing the Qadhaa Salaat, the time for the Adaa Salaat will EXPIRE, then the ADA A Salaat must be performed FIRST. For a person who has missed more than FIVE Salaat, it is not necessary to maintain sequence in the Qadhaa Salaats as the normal daily five Salaats. Missed Salaats may be performed in any order.

Niyyah (Intention)

If a person has missed more than one Fajr or Zohar, it will not be sufficient to say. "I am performing Qadhaa for Fajr or Zohar' You will have to specify exactly which Qadhaa you are performing. For example, you make a Niyyah, 'I am performing 4 Rakaat of Dhuhr that I missed out last Monday’, for instance. However, when you are unable to remember which Salaats are to be made Qadhaa, you may make the Niyyah thus, "Oh Allah! I am performing the FIRST Fajr or the FIRST Zohar from those which I have missed" Continue in this manner until you feel all the Qadhaas are carried out.

General Information

In calculation, there will be six (6) Salaats per day. Calculate the number of missed Salaats from the time of Buloogh (maturity). If one is unable to calculate the actual number of missed Salaats, due to not having any records, then he/she should apply his/her honest discretion in calculating the missed Salaats.

Qadhaa Salaat could be read at anytime, during the day or night, except for sunrise and Zawaal (midday). So, if a person missed his Fajr Salaat, he could recite it as soon as he wakes up or at any other time except for the forbidden times. (Qadhaa Salaat can be recited between Asr and Maghrib Salaat-Taleemul Haq pg. 112)

It is not permissible to give Fidyah (monetary compensation) for the missed Salaats if one is able to fulfil the Qadhaa Salaats. The Fidya for each missed Salaat is the same as Sadaqatul Fitr. A bequest should be made during one’s lifetime to pay the Fidya for the unfulfilled Qadhaa Salaats from one third of one’s estate after fulfillment of debts.

Thank Allah Ta’ala for the concern to fulfill missed Salaats. How will one face Allah Ta’ala on the day of Qiyaamat should he/she pass away without fulfilling the Qadhaa Salaats? An easy method to fulfill the Qadhaa Salaats is, after each daily Fardh Salaat, perform one Qadhaa Salaat, for example, after Dhuhr Salaat of today perform one Dhuhr Qadhaa Salaat, and so on.
