Q7: Looking back at the preliminary task what do you

feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full

product.By Karen Nguyen

Front cover: College VS Music Looking back at my preliminary task (college magazine) and my main task (music magazine) I see a clear progression in my work, as you can see from the images of the front cover on the right hand side. Firstly, I am going to discuss the main differences in progression of my magazine covers. The main thing that I made good progress on would be the mast head of my music magazine compared to the college magazine, as you can see the college magazine mast head is unclear as it blends into the background of the image and the font is very boring. However, from the music magazine you can see that the mast head really ‘POPS’ from the rest of the magazine this is important so that the audience is drawn to the magazine. By learning new skills on adobe photoshop cs6 I was able to add effects to the text to make it look more fun and interesting and rather that just using one cover I used pink for ‘pop’ and yellow for ‘starz’ just because I felt that the colour contrasted each other really well and reflects the target audience that I wanted the magazine to be for.

Other differences would be my main image, cover lines and placement of the barcode and social media platforms. I believed that I improves my main image because in my college magazine I feel that the model is not really engaging with the audience no eye contact compared to my music magazine as my model is looking directly at the audience. Further more my cover lines in my music magazine seem much more interesting in my music magazine because I was able to use my new skills and add images to the cover lines to make them look more interesting. Lastly I placed my barcode and media platforms close together in the music magazine and made it blend much nicer than the college magazine so it has a more of a professional touch.

Contents page: College VS Music

Looking back at my preliminary task (college magazine) and my main task (music magazine) I see a clear progression in my work, as you can see from the images of the contents on the left hand side. Firstly I will be discussing the key differences and how i was able to achieve what I did through developing my Photoshop skills. So as you can clearly see from my main music magazine contents page the masthead has an effect that outlines the outside of each letter and makes it clearer and stand out more, whereas for my preliminary college magazine the letters are just simple and boring white coloured font and relatively small in size making the masthead not stand out to the audience as it should like in my music magazine one does, I feel that from my preliminary task I have learnt new ways to make text look more attractive and effective to the audience. The other feature that I believe that I have progressed on is the use of colours to make them see less harsh and more smooth and natural looking. As you can see in my preliminary task the colours are mainly white, black and purple which are really bold harsh colours it doesn't seem to be natural and blend in with each other. In contrast in my main task contents page you can see that the colours used blend to each other very well and does not seem like an amateur has produced and by adding different effects on the text on Photoshop and using different colours doesn't make my contents page look so plain and 2-D and now the contents the page looks more 3-D and jumps out to the audience more.

Double page spread:Looking back at my preliminary task (college magazine) and my main task (music magazine) I see a clear progression in my work. On the other hand in my preliminary task we were not asked to make double page spread, however I do feel like I have progressed even though I do not have another product to compare it to. So I have learnt many things since this was the first time I have attempted to make a double page spread. I used similarly skills in the contents page and front page to make the heading using the effects of the outlining of the words on a bright yellow background to make the main heading stand out more.

To make my double page spread I has to use a ruler to measure out the perfect central line of the pages this was difficult for me because I was never taught to me however when I worked out the solution making the central line was easy. I mainly used the skills that I developed to make my front cover and contents page to produce this double page spread. I mainly used my previous experience of Photoshop experience.
