In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Question1

Page 2: Q1) In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

• The magazine that I wanted my magazine to look similar to was Q magazine. My magazine front cover does in fact use similar conventions to most of the magazines out on the market. My magazine is similar to Q in the sense that front cover uses similar conventions, I have a CVI in the centre similar to Q, this allows me to capture the attention of the audience making the CVI attract the audience.

• However, I have also challeneged some of the magazines out there in the market, the way I have done this is by not including any small images on the front cover such as a banner etc.. the reason for this is because I wanted the attention of my front cover to mostly be drawn to the CVI as this is one of the most important conventions in my opinion on a front cover. I have included other artists on the front cover to again show the audience that there are many articles and different sotries in my magazine, but I didn’t want any images to take the light off the main DPS article.

• • Another key convention I have used on the front cover of my magazine is the

barcode and price, the reason why I have included these is because they are legal requirements so I needed to put these conventions on to make sure my magazine looked professional and real. I also included an edition number on the barcode to again add to the realism.

• • I also chose to include a puff on my front cover, to again attract the audience to

my magazine, this puff includes text saying ‘’free poster inside’’ the reason for this is because including free things will persuade my audience to buy my magazine.

• I also included a splash, this is to give the audience a slight insight on what DPS has in stall for them. I included this convention to make my front cover more appealing and more professional.

Page 3: Q1) In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

• For the contents page, I did a variety of research into the different conventions used on a contents page, this aided me in creating my contents page as it allowed me to decide on what conventions would work better with my genre. I followed the majority of conventions I identified in my research

• I included small images on the contents page to show the different articles included within my magazine, I also included an image linking to the front cover CVI and CVI on the DPS, this is to show a link between the 3. I kept the same colour scheme on the contents page to show continuity.

• The images on the contents page had number references to allow the audience to find the pages they want without any difficulty, this is so that if my audience have only bought the magazine for a specific article, they can find the page number quickly in the contents page.

• I also included alleys and spacing, the reason for this is because I didn’t want my contents age to look un organised and messy. I wanted my audience to easily get the information they wanted the contents page and not to be confused as to what writing links with which picture. I created the alleys using shapes in photoshop.

• At the bottom of the contents page, I also boxed off at the bottom right of the page where the audience can follow the social media pages of PRISMA magazine.

• I also included a pull quote to again give the audience an idea of what to expect from the DPS article

• On the DPS I used some of conventions used on DPS but not all, for example I included a large CVI image on the left to give the audience an insight of what to expect from the article. The colour scheme used is also similar to the front cover and contents page to show continuity.

• The main CVI does attract attention as it is the first thing the audience will see therefore I wanted the image to look as professional as possible. The standfirst at the top of the page give the audience a brief on the interview and the background of the artist.
