Question 10:Which of the following do you prefer the artists role to be on their own video?
Narrative based (acting) Performance based (story telling)
Narrative based (act-ing)Performance based (story telling)
Applied to our music video research:
These findings will be taken into account whilst our group are planning the concept and decising which elements to include in our music video for a song of the pop genre.
The feedback will also be useful when producing the video itself as, for example, the effect of including camera movement and experimenting with different camera angles in the video could reflect the “action” aspect of music videos and make our finished product more entertaining than if every single shot was a still, straight cut image from the same angle.
With regards to this our music video will involve a panning shot and various types of shot, such as a close up or long shot, and we even intent to include a shot from a bird-eye view.
Many people also liked videos that included a narrative of some sort, however a majority of people claimed to prefer performace-based videos concerning the role of the artist. Therefore, our own music video will involve a narrative of two characters, implying the break down of a relationship (a theme that is appropirate for the song lyrics) who will appear throughout as part of the video. However, the singer will not have a part that involves acting and will have a performing role throughout the video which promotes them as an artist if they are seen to be singing in their own music video.
Applied to our music video research:
We are also aware that a majority of the people who took part in the questionnaire were disappointed by the exposure of scantiy clad bodies in music videos which we will fully respond to by ensuring each character and the singer in our video will be dressed decently. This will also avoid distracting from the song itself or the artist’s peformance which will allow their music (the product being promoted) to be enhanced by the video and not overpowered by it.
What the audience expect to see in a music video is also important in our planning as it gives us, as the producers, an indication of the types of costumes and setting/location an audience would expect to see in a pop video. For example, most of our audience expected to see a narrative which we have previously expressed will be an element of our own video. The audience also expected the characters and artist to wear casual clothes as costume which we agree with in order for the audience to be able to relate more to the artist through their costume.
