Hi Everybody,
Our students and teachers all deserve this Labor Day
holiday after working so hard to start such a smooth
school year! When we return next week, our September
focus on learning will turn our Kindergarteners into
scientists studying the scientific method; 1st graders into
Rockin’ Readin’ Turtles; 2nd graders into cartographers
mapping the world’s oceans and continents; 3rd graders
into pilots soaring the skies with model planes; 4th graders
into explorers of Florida’s lands and people; and 5th
graders into physicists analyzing the properties of matter.
The last week of September will bring Celebrate Freedom
Week (Florida Statute 1003.421), during which the
children learn about these words in the Declaration of
Independence: “We hold these truths to be self-evident,
that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by
their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among
these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to
secure these rights, governments are instituted among
men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the
governed.”

children Learn, Think and Create!

The new Sunshine State books are coming into our Media Center, but before students can check them out, they must be covered in contact paper to make them more durable and extend their shelf life. Bike Riders Must Wear Helmets!In many ways, being a school on the AIA is
challenging. The traffic is very real and very
present, especially as the kids are arriving
and leaving school. We are noticing bikers
without helmets on, and it worries us greatly.
There is a bike helmet law. All people under
the age of 16 must wear a helmet. “A bicycle
rider or passenger who is under 16 years of
age must wear a bicycle helmet that is
properly fitted and is fastened securely upon
the passenger’s head by a strap and that
meets the federal safety standard for bicycle
helmets, final rule, 16 C.F.R. part 1203.”
Our priority is your child’s safety. Please
insist your bike rider wear a helmet!

ACE
NEWS
The school year is off to a wonderful start. We have some exciting things going
on at ACE (After-school Care Enrichment) this year!
• ANNOUNCING: SCHOOL PAY! You may now use your Credit Card to pay for
Extended Day and Enrichment Camp Non-Extended Day Registration Fee
through School Pay. Simply log onto www.schoolpay.com, create an account
and follow the guidelines. REMINDER: You must still forward any registration
forms directly to Lynda Wing, Extended Day Coordinator.
• We have extended our Homework Lab Hours until 5:30 Monday thru
Thursday. If you have not received your Parent Packet containing the Homework
Lab Contract, please ask for one when you pick your child up from ACE or call or
email Lynda Wing 904-547-3830, [email protected].
• In support of Character Counts and Kindness Crew, we will be giving
incentives for our ACE students to continue behavior to support these programs.
The Younger children will have Student of the Week and Treasure Box type
rewards. For our Fourth and Fifth Graders we are starting “The ACE High Flyers
Club.” Every Friday, students who have qualified for the club will get to hang out
in our “Club Room” which will include special snacks, they may bring their DS
type video games, cozy chairs and a relaxed atmosphere. Inclusion in the club
will be based on Kindness, Character, and Academic Performance at school.
The student’s teachers will also sign off on their behavior in class.
• ENRICHMENT CAMPS: All Enrichment Camp info is now online on the
school website. As always, sign up directly through the camp vendors and if your
child is not in ACE you will need to send in a Non-Extended Day Registration
form with a one-time yearly $25 Registration fee made payable to
PVPV/Rawlings to the attention of Lynda Wing, Extended Day Coordinator.
• ATTENDANCE FOR ACE AND ENRICHMENT CAMPS: You must notify
Lynda Wing, [email protected] or 904-547-3830 if your child will not be in
attendance on the day of camp or at ACE. Please do so as early as possible.

Cafeteria News – BLESSINGS IN A BACKPACK
If you receive free or reduced lunch, you may qualify for a weekend
food supplement program known as Blessings-in-a-Backpack. This
food staple snack bag is given out weekly throughout the school
year. The bag is typically sent home in your child’s backpack on Friday
afternoons. If you would like to participate or need further information
about Blessings in a Backpack, please contact your building’s
counselor, Stacey O’Brien ([email protected]) or
Christy Thacker ([email protected]).
To apply for free or reduced lunch, visit the St. Johns County website at
www.stjohns.k12.fl.us/food/free/. You may also contact the cafeteria
manager, Jessica Peto at 547-8576, for questions related to the
application process.
CAFETERIA NEWS
Hello and welcome back! I am Jessica Peto, the Food and Nutrition manager for
PVPV/Rawlings. Every child this year will be provided with a lunch account. You may go to
Paypams.com to set up an account to put money in for your child and see what your child has
purchased for lunch. With Paypams.com you will also get reminders when your child’s account
get low on funds. You may also send in money with your child’s first and last name in a sealed
envelope. Your child’s teacher will send it down to me. Your child may get breakfast every day.
Your child’s breakfast includes breakfast entrée, fruit, juice and milk. Your child’s lunch includes
a choice of one entrée, choice of vegetables, choice of fruit and milk. If your child gets a second
entrée then he or she will be charged ala carte. We also have a one cool box daily for lunch
that includes yogurt, graham crackers, slice apples carrot dippers w/ranch, choice of another
vegetable and milk. Here are the items we sell in our cafeteria.

theater for our first-ever
PTO Shell-ebration!
Coastal Luxury Outdoors and PVPV/Rawlings PTO are excited to announce that the 8th
annual Turtle Trot Fund Run will take place Thursday, October 11th!
The Turtle Trot is the only school sponsored fundraiser that encourages both physical fitness
and support for the school. It teaches our students teamwork and community engagement.
100% of the funds raised by our students will be used to support our school! Please join us
and ensure this annual event is a success! An information packet will come home with your
student following a pep rally on September 27th.
For now, please keep these important dates in mind:
September 27th- Pep Rally (students only)
September 27-October 12th- students collect funds from friends and family
October 11th - Turtle Trot Fund Run (Parents welcome)
If you are new to the school or not sure what the Turtle Trot is, you are about to experience one
of the most exciting days of the school year! It is our single and largest fundraiser of the year!
Beginning on September 27, each student will collect donations from generous family and
friends. On Thursday, October 11, each grade level will have the opportunity to come to the
“track” outdoors and trot themselves to the finish line! Parents are welcome to line the track
and cheer as their “turtles” complete the race and help PVPV/Rawlings raise money for two
very exciting projects! Stay tuned for the project reveals September 27!
PTO MEMBERSHIP UPDATE
Our turtle is on the move! We have now reached over 300 families that
have joined TEAM Turtle. Thank you to all the families who have
supported our students at PVPV/Rawlings and are helping us “Bridge
the Gap.” We are so grateful for all of you! Our school relies heavily
on financial support from the PTO, and we could not do it without you!
