Computing — Mrs Bradbury
Welcome to Computing, 6th Grade have con-tinued with their study of HTML, they have explored creating ordered lists, as well as in-serting hyperlinks using <a ref>.
We have spent time this week learning how to find bugs, in HTML code, as well as de-bugging.
The students have nearly completed their web pages which they have created using HTML, the pages look amazing. Great job 6th Grade.
8th Grade have continued their study of Computer Science Principles, this week we have studied how colors are coded, we have used hexadecimal coding rules for colors and students have created some very impressive favicons.
We have also completed our end of unit project—Encoding an experience, where students have de-cided on a real life experience and have drawn dia-grams to represent this, as well as identifying coding components. The students have calculated the number of bits required for each component and have explained their choices. Well done 8th grade.

-It is hard to believe, but we are already a
quarter way through the school year!
-I have learned a lot about DAS and how
things work at the school. I have also
gotten to know you and your expectations
as well.
-I will be looking to enter more grades
starting in the 2nd quarter to give an even
better overall picture of your child.
Reading Logs will be graded for
completion starting next week. On
Tuesday October 15th, I will be
collecting the first reading log for a
grade.
-iReady Intervention Program has
begun for both reading AND math. Next
week, I will start working with students
in small groups in both of these subjects
as well. This should be quite beneficial
to the students. :)
-Help your child at home by having them
do some multi-digit addition and
subtraction. Some students do not have
this background knowledge from prior
grades. Regrouping is especially tough
for them sometimes!

Geometry: We wrapped up our chapter with a look at parallel & perpendicular lines as well as the
distance between lines. These concepts were very involved and I recommend continued practice.
Algebra I: We were introduced to the parts of a line and learned about how to graph linear equations.
We completed our benchmark on Thursday.
Pre-Algebra: We began practice on chapter 2 about rates of changes and linear equations in two
variables. 8C students began working on iReady skills practice.
Next Week:
Geometry: Our chapter test has been postponed and will be mid week. We will begin Chapter 3
afterwards on transformations. This will give us more chance for mini-projects.
Algebra I: We will keep working on chapter 3 as we explore the parts of a line and graphing lines
such as slope, intercept and transformations.
Pre-Algebra: We will continue working on chapter 3 concepts on tables, graphs and lines. I hope the
visual nature of this chapter will help after the difficult chapter 2 skills.
