First Reading – Ezekiel 37:1-14The Valley of Dry Bones37 The hand of the LORD was on me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the LORD and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. 2 He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. 3 He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?”I said, “Sovereign LORD, you alone know.”4 Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the LORD! 5 This is what the Sovereign LORD says to these bones: I will make breath[a] enter you, and you will come to life. 6 I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the LORD.’”

Read by Pastor Neil

7 So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone. 8 I looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them.9 Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to it, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Come, breath, from the four winds and breathe into these slain, that they may live.’” 10 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet—a vast army.11 Then he said to me: “Son of man, these bones are the people of Israel. They say, ‘Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off.’ 12 Therefore prophesy and say to them: ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: My people, I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back to the land of Israel. 13 Then you, my people, will know that I am the LORD, when I open your graves and bring you up from them. 14 I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the LORD have spoken, and I have done it, declares the LORD.’”

Pentecost ReadingsActs 2: 1-21 (NIV)

Acts 2:1-3 Tony Wrixon - EnglishThe Holy Spirit Comes at Pentecost

2 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.

Acts 2:4-5 Nicole Wrixon - French

4All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.5 Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven.

Acts 2:6-7 Ermiya - Persian

6 When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. 7 Utterly amazed, they asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans?

Acts 2:8-10 Cintia Sue - Portuguese

8 Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? 9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome

Acts 2:11-13 Edson Dorneles - Spanish

11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!” 12 Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?”13 Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too much wine.”

Acts 2:14-15 Alex Varghese - MalayalamPeter Addresses the Crowd

14 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. 15 These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning!

Acts 2:16-17 Sonja Botha – Afrikaans

16 No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:17 “‘In the last days, God says,I will pour out my Spirit on all people.Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.

Acts 2:18-19 Mary Geissler – Scots

18 Even on my servants, both men and women,I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.

19 I will show wonders in the heavens aboveand signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke.

Acts 2:20-21Helena Krivan – German

20 The sun will be turned to darknessand the moon to bloodbefore the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.21 And everyone who callson the name of the Lord will be saved.

Responsive PsalmPsalm 104:24-34, 35b (NIV)

25 There is the sea, vast and spacious,

teeming with creatures beyond number—

living things both large and small.26 There the ships go to and fro,

and Leviathan, which you formed to frolic there.27 All creatures look to you

to give them their food at the proper time.28 When you give it to them,

they gather it up;when you open your hand,

they are satisfied with good things.29 When you hide your face,

they are terrified;when you take away their breath,

they die and return to the dust.

30 When you send your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the

ground.31 May the glory of the LORD endure forever;

may the LORD rejoice in his works—32 he who looks at the earth, and it trembles,

who touches the mountains, and they smoke.33 I will sing to the LORD all my life;

I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.34 May my meditation be pleasing to him,

as I rejoice in the LORD.

Praise the LORD.

CLOSING HYMNWake, the Dawn is Now Full Rising (CH 239)

A prayer as I put on my mask:Creator,

as I prepare to go into the world,

help me to see the sacrament

in the wearing of this cloth -

let it be "an outward sign

of an inward grace" -

a tangible and visible way of living

love for my neighbours,

as I love myself.

Christ,

since my lips will be covered,

uncover my heart,

that people would see my smile

in the crinkles around my eyes.

Since my voice may be muffled,

help me to speak clearly,

not only with my words,

but with my actions.

Holy Spirit,

As the elastic touches my ears,

remind me to listen carefully -

and full of care -

to all those I meet.

May this simple piece of cloth be

shield and banner,

and each breath that it holds,

be filled with your love.

In your Name and in that love, I pray.

May it be so. May it be so.

BlessingGo in peace to love and

serve the Lord. Thanks be to God
