Pressure injuries are easier to prevent than to heal:
• Using pressure redistribution devices to alleviate pressure from key points
• Checking skin daily for discoloration• In most cases, ensuring the head of the bed is
raised no more than 30º and for short periods, if possible
Pressure injuries result from extended pressure interrupting blood flow to the skin, causing problems ranging from discoloration, loss of sensation and scarring to full-fledged skin loss and soft tissue damage.
They can result from pressure alone or the combination of pressure and friction or shearing.
