Why a Music Video?

• It isn’t good enough in todays age to just release the single and leave it as that. This is because the music which is released doesn’t make money anymore because of Piracy and Illegal Downloading. YouTube has also become very popular over the 10 years that it has been around and gets millions of viewers each day. If an Artist uploaded a Music Video of there new single, it would keep the song in the charts and the artist would also become recognisable from the videos she has sung in.

Advertising?

Following on from the previous slide, advertising is the key thing to do when trying to sell an album or a single. In individual music videos, they also advertise some of their other merchandise that they sell on their website. An example of this would be Britney Spears ‘123’ Music Video, Britney is using her music video to advertise her new single as well as her brand new perfume. She is using one way to release numerous things which can also save on money as using two separate videos would cost millions of dollars and the people in the music industry do not have the money to spend on things like this anymore.

Artists and Other Brands?Sometimes in Music Videos, Brands come together with the Artist so that they can use their music video to advertise their products. They usually do this with worldwide famous music artists such as Lady Gaga. In in music videos, there are many different brands that are shown through out. A few of them are Virgin Media, Polaroid, Burberry, HP Laptops and Beats. These are famous products and very successful in there separates markets however millions of people watch music videos on a regular basis and so instead of advertising on TV where many people use this time for a toilet break, they can get their attention during a music video.

Why Do They Need to Do This?

The Music Industry is struggling with money now as albums and singles do now make the same money it did a few years ago. This is why many artists are becoming mini conglomerates such as Katy Perry who uses her website to release her new music video which is the first thing shown when you enter the website meaning this is obviously the main way that Katy Perry can earn her money. It is also expected by the public now that when someone releases a song, their should be a music video following after that.
