Each Board of trustees through the principal and staff is required to develop and implement acurriculum underpinned by the principles of the New Zealand Curriculum (Pg. 44 NZCurriculum)

PRINCIPLES
All curriculum should be consistent with these eightstatements:
High expectations :The curriculum supports and empowers all
students to learn and achieve personalexcellence, regardless of their individualcircumstances.
Treaty of WaitangiThe curriculum acknowledges the principles ofthe Treaty of Waitangi, and the biculturalfoundations of Aotearoa New Zealand. Allstudents have the opportunity to acquireknowledge of te reo Mori me na tikanga.
Cultural diversityThe curriculum reflects New Zealands culturaldiversity and values the histories and traditionsof all its people.
InclusionThe curriculum is non-sexist, non-racist, andnon-discriminatory; it ensures that studentsidentities, languages, abilities, and talents arerecognised and affirmed and that their learningneeds are addressed.Learning to learnThe curriculum encourages all students toreflect on their own learning processes and to
learn how to learn.
Community engagementThe curriculum has meaning for students,connects with their wider lives, and engagesthe support of their families, whnau, andcommunities.
CoherenceThe curriculum makes links within and acrosslearning areas, provides for coherenttransitions, and opens up pathways to furtherlearning.
Future Focus
Pukekohe Easts Schools principles align withthe New Zealand Curriculum.
EXCELLENCETeachers, children and parents believe in
excellence. The school uses formativeassessment practices to move children to thenext steps in their learning. Learning to learn isparamount and a school priority.The culture of the school is one whereexcellence in all things is encouraged andvalued.
TREATY OF WAITANGIAll persons are treated with respect as NewZealanders, no matter their race, religious orcultural background. The special place of Maoriin the community is recognised and valued
through powhiri and waiata, greetings, Matarikicelebrations,and community hangi, Maorilanguage inclusiveness and cultural EOTCinvolvement. The school encompasses thenotion of inclusiveness.
RECOGNITION OF LEARNING NEEDSEach child is treated as an individual with theirown needs. Within each classroom differentiationaccording to need is the norm.
COMMUNITYWe believe in maintaining strong partnership
between the school,whanau and immediate andwider communities.
COHERANCEWe believe in integrating our values, knowledge,curriculum, principles through the process of
inquiry; using assessment practices to create acycle of connection and coherence.
FUTURE FOCUSTo continue the exploration of sustainability in allareas of learning and e-learning, personal
relationships, the curriculum and environment.
