Ten Years of Dedicated Service - Mr Ravi Menon This month marks the 10

th Anniversary of Yoga Classes at the Hindu Center of Virginia.

Mr. Ravi Menon has been the driving force behind the yoga classes at HCV. Yogi Ravi has been a practitioner for over 35 years having completed his training at the Patanjali International Yoga Foundation in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, India. Ravi ji started Bharati Yoga at the Hindu Center in 2011 and has classes for Beginners twice a week, Advanced students once a week and free classes for Seniors (65+) once a week. His persistence through the Covid pandemic included having virtual classes for his students to become healthier, happier and more balanced for a holistic approach to inner peace. Ravi ji’s classes are very popular and all funds raised through the fees are donated to the Hindu Center and over 10 years that has been a substantial contribution to the Hindu Center’s operations. The International Day of Yoga has been one of the most popular events at the Hindu Center every year. On behalf of the Hindu Center community and his dedicated students, we Thank Yogi Ravi for his invaluable contributions and look forward to many more years of healthy, happy living! Devotees, We are excited to announce that we are opening pujas for devotees to attend and are also extending the darshan hours. To ensure the safety of devotees, priests, and volun-teers we request all devotees to read the guidelines and follow them. We are requesting the devotees to sign up using the link for darshan and pujas. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0448adaa28a6fd0-temple Darshan Timings

Weekends: 9:30 am to 1:30 pm and 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm

Weekdays: 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Devotees can sign up and attend scheduled pujas through signup genius. Once you receive confirmation, note your time and come to the temple 10 mins before your scheduled time slot. If you are late call (804)346-9954. The safe and restricted reopening of Temple – Guidelines for Devotees Steps to follow for devotees:

• Devotees wishing to have darshan or pray during designated hours must sign up in an available slot via signup genius link on temple website. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0448adaa28a6fd0-temple • Only small groups (<20) at a time will be permitted to have darshan and pray. Devotees and volunteers will follow social distancing (6 feet separation) on HCV premises. • No interaction between priests & devotees except to provide information for Archana. Safe distance (6’) must be maintained between priests, devotees & other devotees. • All devotees need to come with face masks and wear them all the time in HCV premises. Temple will provide masks for a nominal donation if needed. • Shoes should be left outside the main temple. • Devotees will enter through the main door and exit through the glass doors next to the temple office. • Temple darshan slots are for 15 minutes. No theertam, shadari, or prasad at this time • No food, fruits, flowers or prasadam offering will be permitted in the temple • Attending scheduled pujas: devotees (20-25) must sit in front of the puja deity maintaining 6’ distance. Devotees must not get up and wander around or leave during the puja. No interaction with the priests is allowed & safe distance must be maintained from the priests even if devotees need to provide information for Archana.

Attending Special Family pujas: devotees must send an email & coordinate with [email protected]. Only 1 family (living in one home) may attend. Puja will be performed by priest in the havan area. Devotees must sit 6’ distance from the priest. Devotees must not get up and wander around or leave during the puja. Once you receive confirmation, note your time and come to the temple 10 mins before. If you are late call (804)346-9954 Additional steps to follow while at the Temple • Please remember to arrive at your assigned time, not before; to ensure social distancing. • Enter the Temple through the main door (from dwajasthambam). Leave your shoes outside the temple. • Wash your hands in the restroom. Ensure you maintain social distancing (6ft distance). • While leaving the temple leave through the glass door next to the office. • Max less than 20-25 devotees – 15 mins each batch. • Devotees are required to wear mask at all times in the temple • Devotees sit and pray in the designated areas. • Devotees must not touch any objects while on HCV premises. • Please have your young children close to you at all times

Namaste! I started Bharathi Yoga Richmond in March, 2011, mainly to start Yoga classes at HCV, to share my experience and knowledge in this ancient and proven system of total health. I had two specific goals: 1) to help our community in improving their physical and mental health, and 2) to help support our temple. Yoga classes were offered for beginners, without any experience in Yoga. In time, separate classes were started for inter-mediate students, which later on transformed into a class for advanced students. Hundreds of students have attended these classes. A class for seniors was added in 2016, which was very well attended. Since the pandemic hit us in March, 2020, classes have been by and large, conducted virtually and a regular meditation session has been added. By donating all the fees paid by students in classes held at HCV, I believe we have made a significant contribution to the temple. Yoga instruction includes Asana (posture), Pranayama (breathing exercises), Yogic eye exercises, Hatha Yoga Kriyas, Surya Namaskar (sun salutation), Mantra chanting, Meditation, Walk-n-Yoga, etc. Please join Yoga classes to enjoy total health and help the temple. Current schedule is as follows:

Beginners Yoga: Saturdays 12:00 PM Intermediate Yoga: Wednesdays 6:30 PM Advanced Yoga: Sundays 7:15 AM Meditation session (free): Saturdays 7:00 PM
