Dear Competitors This is now our fifth show … where does the time go! And as always we once again we have a few changes as we are always looking to evolve and improve, and to ultimately bring you the best show we can… endeavouring to meet the changing needs of the showing world. Last year we were very proud and truly delighted that Senior Showing and Dressage Ltd chose this show to bring you their new and exciting Scottish Seniors Championship and a direct Olympia qualifier. This has been extended this year so that TWO horses
or ponies will go forward to Olympia in December, one from the Inhand Section and one from the Ridden. We againl retain our VHS Veteran section enabling you to qualify for one of the Scottish Regional Finals so this is now truly a special day for our older horses and ponies. As we have been requested, we have also added two more special classes to the schedule, with an Open Side Saddle class and a Concours d’Elegance class, both to be judged by a selection of our judges on the day in the Main Ring following the SSADL Olympia qualifier and before the Supreme of Show And not forgetting your canine lorry companion, we have a Fun Companion Dog Show too! Our chosen charity this year is the Equine Grass Sickness Fund. This was our charity in our first year of 2012 and we raised £475 for them … let’s see if we can exceed that this year. With your help we raised £450 for the Scottish Charity Air Ambulance in 2015, and as you can
see it was a rather dreich day when we presented the cheque!. We hope you will support this show with entries for a huge range of classes, by buying raffle tickets in advance and on the day, by donating a prize for the raffle or with cash via your entry form, or by giving of your time and expertise by helping steward or assist around the showground.
Raffle
A Raffle will be held during the day and drawn mid-afternoon with 100% of the proceeds being donated to Equine Grass Sickness Fund
Any donations of quality equine or non-equine related items gratefully received to help raise funds for this wonderful cause

The Equine Grass Sickness Fund Grass Sickness is a devastating disease of horses, ponies and donkeys
in which there is damage to parts of the nervous system which control
involuntary functions, producing the main symptom of gut paralysis.
The Moredun Foundation Equine Grass Sickness Fund is the only
registered charity in the UK raising funds specifically for research into grass sickness.
What We Do • Support vital research into grass sickness in an effort to find the cause.
• Review funding applications and allocate resources.
• Support the treatment of chronic grass sickness cases at the Royal (Dick) School of
Veterinary Studies by part funding a specialist Grass Sickness Nurse.
• Offer practical advice and support to owners of affected horses and ponies in the
UK and abroad.
• Publish ‘Equine News’ to report progress on research, fundraising, and news from
the regions.
• Raise funds through the sale of merchandise and Christmas cards.
• Provide information on our website.
How We Do It
As a registered charity we rely entirely on
contributions from members of the public,
charitable trusts, legacies, organisations and
companies to enable us to support new projects.
Funds donated are carefully managed and targeted
towards finding the cause of grass sickness. We
receive no government funding.
What We Support
Since the formation of The Moredun Equine Grass Sickness Fund in 1988 substantial
progress has been made, either wholly or partially funded a number of worthwhile
research projects, including investigations into possible causal agents, neuropathology,
digestive function, non-invasive diagnostic tests, oxidative stress, pasture management
and epidemiological studies in the UK.
The development of a special nursing regime, pioneered by a team at the Royal (Dick)
School of Veterinary Studies, has led to a substantial increase in the number of chronic
cases being restored to health and has resulted in many more horses being able to be
nursed at home by their owners. A number of chronic grass sickness cases have survived
and returned to work including hacking, riding school work, hunting, eventing, racing and
breedingThe Fund continues to part fund a specialist grass sickness nurse at the Royal
(Dick) Vet.
Until a vaccine is trialled and proven to prevent grass sickness owners have no choice but
to implement management practices which may reduce the risk of the disease occurring.
