1 PUBLIC TRANSIT Burlington County is served by several public transit carriers. NJ TRANSIT operates 13 bus routes throughout the County. As the maps shows, all but one route serves the northern section of the County. These bus routes provide service to/from Philadelphia, Camden City, and Gloucester and Ocean counties. NJ TRANSIT also operates the River LINE light rail system, providing service between Camden City and Trenton. Of the 21 station stops, 11 are located in Burlington County providing frequent service to the Route 130 Corridor and river front communities. Camden City and Trenton are regional transit hubs, thus county residents can transfer to other public transit services throughout the Philadelphia, Trenton and New York City regions. The BurLink bus system is provided by the Burlington County Board of Chosen Freeholders. This six route system provides “last mile connector” service between employment parks and NJ TRANSIT bus and rail stops. This is a deviated fixed route service which operates Monday through Friday, primarily during the AM and PM peak periods. A reciprocal transfer system is available with NJ TRANSIT services which lessens commuting costs for passengers. Burlington County residents with a disability have access to two public transit systems that provide curb to curb services: Access Link and Sen Han. Passengers must meet eligibility criteria, register with the carrier and make advanced reservations to use these services. Access Link is provided by NJ TRANSIT in compliance with ADA regulations requiring public transit systems to be accessible to persons with disabilities. Access Link routes operate within ¾ of a mile of NJ TRANSIT’s fixed route bus routes, therefore only the northern section of the county is covered. Service is also only provided during the times that the fixed route services are running. Sen Han provides services for senior citizens and persons with disabilities in Camden and Burlington counties. Sen Han will take eligible passengers to medical appointments, shopping facilities and makes some employment trips. Trips are provided primarily Monday through Friday. Other transportation services are provided by several County and private nonprofit organizations. These services usually have eligibility criteria and are limited to the clients of the organization providing the transportation, such as the elderly and persons with disabilities. These organizations include: Occupational Training Center, Twin Oaks, Lester A. Drenk Behavioral Health Center, Catholic Charities, Crossroads, Inc., BCCAP, Transitional Housing, Inc. DEMOGRAPHICS Population Characteristics Burlington County’s population increased by approximately 6% (23,300 people) between 2000 and 2010 (US Census). Of the 40 municipalities in Burlington County, 18 towns experienced a growth rate equal to or higher than the county overall. Additionally, 13 towns experienced at least a 10% increase in population between 2000 and 2010. Lumberton, Westampton, Chesterfield, Delanco, Bordentown Township, Hainesport, Woodland and Mansfield increased their population by 20% or more; with Mansfield experiencing an increase of 68%.
