Mr Martin Matthews Transport The Public Service The departments shown here comprise the New Zealand Public Service. The Public Service is defined under the State Sector Act 1988. Departments of the Public Service are listed in the first schedule to the State Sector Act. Chief executives are appointed subject to the provisions of the State Sector Act. The Solicitor-General and the State Services Commissioner are designated as chief executives under the State Sector Act but, because of their relationship with government, are not subject to all of the same provisions of the Act as are other chief executives. The Government Statistician is appointed under separate provisions of the State Sector Act.
