Dear Parents
Welcome back after the half term break and I hope you all had an enjoyable
few days together with your families. I was amazed how quickly the first
few weeks of the school year passed and already the children are well
established in their new classes and coping very well with the demands,
challenges and fun of a new curriculum. Year 6 in particular seem to have
grown and matured considerably in a very short time and are now well on
track to give of their very best at their forthcoming 11+ examinations. We
wish them lots of luck at this important time in their lives.
We have been blessed with a wonderful run of fine weather since the start of
the school year which has meant lots of outdoor play for the children as well
as a full programme of sporting events. The school football and netball
teams have got off to a flying start with matches against Westward Prep and
Danesfield Manor resulting in some impressive results for both football and
netball teams. We have also competed in the Hampton Boys and U-10
Twickenham Prep football tournaments and the Westward Prep Netball
Tournament. Full details overleaf. Well done to all involved – a very good
effort!
Thank-you to all parents who were able to make the PTA AGM on the 11th
October. Richard Cullen our outgoing Chair summarised the year‘s events
and was duly thanked for all his input and presented with a token of the
committee‘s appreciation. I am very pleased that his successor will be Mr
Sunny Bath (father of Rienna in Reception). We also have a new secretary
in Swati Mittel (mother of Sushant in Reception) who has taken over from
Renu Sudera. Renu has done fantastic work over the past 7 years and I am
happy to say will continue to be a class rep. Navjeet Sidhu will continue as
Treasurer. Warmest thanks to all our representatives (details overleaf) and I
am looking forward to working with you all over the coming year.
Our first PTA sponsored event of the year was our very popular and well-
attended Spooks and Spells Halloween party which was held on the last
Friday before half term. Moving the date forward paid off with fine, dry
weather which was perfect for an outdoor children‘s party. As ever the
standard of costumes was very high as was the calibre of pumpkin carving.
Our guest judge found it very hard to choose the winners and told me ―they
all deserve a prize‖!
The autumn term has also been very good in the charitable department with
a bumper harvest festival donation. The display looked fantastic for our
special assembly which was presented by the Reverend Rosie Hoad from St
Mary‘s Church in Osterley. The foodstuffs were delivered very promptly to
the Vineyard Centre who distributed them among needy local families. See
overleaf for their personal acknowledgment. Mufti Day in support of the
Shooting Star children‘s hospice raised £255.60. Many thanks to you all for
your generous support of these events.
The staff and I are now looking forward to another busy and action-packed
half term full of work and play and to meeting many of you over the next
few weeks.

Ashton House School Is A Nut Free Zone
By Friday 21st October, everyone was getting into holiday mood and what better way of celebrating than
at our annual PTA Spooks and Spells Halloween party. There was a fantastic array of costumes and
disguises as you can see from our pictures and for the first time we had a special pumpkin competition
which really brightened up the playground.
Thanks to everyone for making this event such a big
success.

On Wednesday 12th October the Year 5 & 6 Netball Team (Jaya, Anabel, Hafsa, Aaisha, Khadijah, Puneet,
Helena, Khushi and Donya) travelled to Westward Prep for the Netball Tournament. Everyone was excited
and eager to do well. The scores were as follows:
Ashton House V Westward A Team 0-7 lost
Ashton House V Danesfield Manor 5-0 won
Ashton House V Ursuline Convent 0-3 lost
Ashton House V Manor House 1-3 lost
Ashton House V Westward B Team 4-1 won
Everyone played hard and we enjoyed the experience of playing against new schools. The final results put
us in the middle of the table and I am proud of the Team‘s effort.
Year 5 & 6 Ashton House V Westward Prep ‘A’ Team
On Friday 21st October we hosted a netball match with the Westward Prep ‗A‘Team. Jaya (C), Anabel,
Hafsa, Aaisha, Helena, Khushi, Puneet, Donya and Khadija were well aware that this was going to be a
tough game AND that we would give it our best shot. Westward started strongly and scored quick goals by
dodging our defence. We fought hard to get past their defence but only managed to score two goals. The
final score was 12-2 to Westward. The game was a good learning experience for the whole team.

After half time Lewis scored a volley into the top right corner it was now 6-0. Unfortunately they were able
to pull one back to make the final score 6-1. The whole team enjoyed the game and we look forward to our
next match against Broomfield House.

In the second half Westward got a free-kick, which Kareem intercepted and kicked the ball down the pitch
for me. I shot, but their goalkeeper saved it. Adam had a good chance in the second half but it ended 2 – 0
to Ashton House.

PARKING REMINDER
Can we remind you not to park your vehicles at ANY TIME over the entrances to the school. This causes
a parking hazard for our school bus and a danger to parents and children entering or leaving the school.
We have also received several complaints from our neighbours about parents parking across their
property therefore making it difficult for them to gain access. We are sure that you can appreciate that this
is unacceptable.
Therefore we would really welcome your cooperation to ensure that the safety of all of our children and
parents is of the utmost importance and that you consider our neighbours when parking your vehicle.

POLITE REMINDER
While we want to make contact between staff and parents as easy as possible, please remember that first
thing in the morning class teachers are either on duty or getting ready to receive the children in the
classroom. If you want to get a message to a particular member of staff please do so via the school office
or send an email and they will respond to you as soon as they can. Please note that this refers to Years 1 –
6. Pre-prep staff, due to the young age of the children, are available for short exchanges when you drop
your child off. For longer consultations, please make a mutually convenient appointment. Many thanks
for your cooperation in this matter.
