Maintaining Your Cardiovascular Health Naturally

The Impact of Cardiovascular Diseases

Over 50% of the deaths in the USA are due to cardiovascular diseases and over 17% of the population above 20 years old has a total cholesterol level over 240mg/dl. In addition, certain conditions that lead to cardiovascular diseases such as obesity or diabetes are rising rapidly and affecting individuals at a younger and younger age. Type II diabetes, previously affecting people over 50, is now commonly seen in adolescents.

It is certain that medications have improved and regular checkups are enabling us to address individual risks much quicker. It is also true that the actual number of deaths caused by cardiovascular disease is decreasing. However, it is still a major problem that dramatically impacts the lives of millions of individuals at great cost to everyone.

The Causes of Cardiovascular Diseases

There are many causes to cardiovascular disorders. Many are related to lifestyle and are well under our control. Smoking, obesity, chronic inflammation, sugar-metabolic disorders and long-term stress are issues that can be addressed before they cause irreversible damage.

Even genetic patterns can be identified and controlled through simple natural means. This report identifies what your risk indicators are and what you can do to take the situation in your own hands before it is too late. While it is critical to address cardiovascular issues it is important to consider them in the context of health care in general.

Our book Secrets to a Long Healthy Life outlines the foundation of health and offers a 90 day plan to eliminate the chronic causes of inflammation. As discussed in the chapter on adrenal dysfunction, chronic inflammation leads to adrenal stress, which leads to sugar metabolic and thyroid imbalances. Those, in turn, can lead to cardiovascular conditions. So it is very important to look at cardiovascular

disturbances in the context of stress, inflammation, sugar metabolic disorders and thyroid dysfunction. The tests that are discussed below represent the various physical variables of cardiovascular health

Cardiovascular Disease Markers

There are twelve markers that indicate elevated cardiovascular risk. Some of them are standard in every blood test associated with a yearly check up: total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides. Others are very important in our opinion but are often not included in your blood test report: C-reactive protein, homocysteine, lipoprotein (a), ferritin, fibrinogen, blood glucose, insulin and hemoglobin A 1 C. If you want that information you may have to request it specifically from your health practitioner and it is possible you will not be reimbursed by your health plan.

In addition, there is a strong connection between thyroid function and high cholesterol, and between adrenal dysfunction and cardiovascular risks. If any of these markers are out of range, we will tell you what natural approach you can use to bring these markers back to the level at which you and your doctor want them to be.

What Do We Mean By Natural Approach?

By natural we mean diet, exercise, meditation, relaxation, lifestyle counseling, supplements, homeopathy, acupuncture, herbs of various sources and massage. It is important to know that we are not saying that pharmaceutical products are bad or that you should not follow your doctor’s advice or comply with his/her recommendations. We are offering responsible natural alternatives if you wish to use them. Usually this involves a more conscious involvement on your part and a much higher personal responsibility. When you choose such an approach it is also critical to continue having regular checkups to monitor your progress and make sure that you are producing the desired results.

The Most Common Tests

The most common tests ordered as part of you yearly check up are:

Total cholesterol, comprised of: LDL cholesterol (sometimes called bad cholesterol) and HDL (called good cholesterol). Of course there is no good or bad cholesterol. LDL is a lubricant that circulates in the blood stream and that protects the walls of the veins and arteries. HDL acts as a solvent that removes the build-up of old LDL and prevents the formation of plaque and occlusion.

In addition cholesterol is a precursor to the formation of the sex hormones and stress hormones produced in the adrenals. LDL is often called bad because excess LDL increases cardiovascular risk and high HDL decreases cardiovascular risk. The present recommended total level cholesterol for all ages is below 200 mg/dl (milligram per deciliter).

HDL (High Density Lipoprotein): the cholesterol designed to prevent buildup of plaque in the arteries. The normal range for males is 30 to 70 mg/dl and for females is 35 to 80 mg/dl. The ideal for both genders is above 50mg/dl.

LDL (Low Density Lipoprotein): this cholesterol is the lubricant of the blood vessels. The normal range is between 100 and 129 mg/dl and the ideal range is below 100 mg/dl.

Cardiac Risk Factors: HDL and LDL cholesterol are designed to work in relationship to one another to protect the blood vessels. For this reason, cardiac risk factors are determined as a ratio. This ratio is actually more important in calculating your risk than the relative level of each cholesterol. It is determined by dividing your total cholesterol by the HDL. The normal range for males is 3.5 to 5.0 and the ideal is 1.0 to 3.4. The normal for females is 3.4 to 4.4 and the ideal is 1.0 to 3.3.

Triglycerides: refers to the amount of fat circulating in your blood stream. It varies with age: for males the upper level is 130 plus age, up to 200 mg/dl. For females it is 80 plus age, up to 165. The ideal for both males and females is below

100mg/dl. Triglycerides are greatly influenced by what you eat and can stay in your system for over 12 hours after ingestion.

A consistently high level of fat in your blood stream considerably increases your cardiovascular risk. For this reason, consistent consumption of fast food is a cardiovascular time bomb.

What Can You Do About The Previous Imbalances?

It depends a great deal on the cause and the degree of the disturbance. If your cholesterol is slightly elevated it can often be controlled through diet and exercise. We will cover those in a section below called General Remedies for Cardiovascular Disorders.

Some products also show a profound effect on cholesterol balance.

Garlic has been shown to have a beneficial effect on practically every aspect of cardiovascular health. If you choose to use garlic, make sure you have no adverse reaction to it since you must consume it in large quantities to be effective. There are many garlic formulas on the market. The one I prefer is made by Pharmax. It is a freeze dried formula and is only available through a health practitioner. I recommend 2 to 3 capsules twice daily.

Niacin, taken at least 300 mg per day. Fish oil, 2000mg Selenium, 200mcg Vitamin E. 200 to 400 IU Tocotrienols, 200mg 2 times daily Vitamin C, at least a 1000mg. Two new products have received substantial amount of attention these

days: Guggul and polycosanol. They are available separately or in a combined formula called Pollilip produced by Health Concern. It is available to practitioners through Crane Herb.

If your cholesterol is high, with high LDL and low HDL, and you suspect that it is genetic, based on your family history, you may need to use a more radical approach. Presently, the most common treatment for cholesterol are Statin drugs, and they are not without potential side effects.

What you may not know is that there is a natural statin called Red Yeast Rice that produces the same results as the pharmaceutical versions, minus most of the risks. Personally, I completely regulated my cardiovascular function in less than one year. After trying all the other products, I included Red Yeast Rice in my daily regimen - that is when my total cholesterol went from 250 to 178 (see My Personal Story below). I do not recommend starting with this approach because Red Yeast Rice is a statin and it stresses the liver. I had to increase my CoQ10 level and take Alpha Lipoic Acid on a regular basis to counteract some of the potential negative effects of Red Yeast Rice. However, it is all natural and it works beautifully.

My Personal Story

I am over 60 years old and I have always prided myself on my good health and on taking pretty good care of myself. I take vitamins and minerals on a regular basis, and I tend to assume that my body is taking care of me. Several years ago I had a complete physical exam for the first time in a few years. I was shocked by the results.

It turns out that I had not been taking very good care of myself after all. My total cholesterol was over 250 mg/dl, my triglycerides were 257, my homocysteine level was 25 and my TSH was 25.30. In short, my cardiac risk was high and my thyroid quite low. Of course, the doctor wanted to put me on thyntheroid medication and a cholesterol lowering drug. I thanked him and decided that I would handle this on my own.

Cardiovascular Health

Page 6: Psychological Stress ( Impact and solutions) - babinetics.combabinetics.com/Reports/WORD Versions/Cardiovascular_Health.docx · Web viewMaintaining Your Cardiovascular Health Naturally

After some trial and error, one year later I was happy to report that my total cholesterol was 174. My triglycerides were at 126, my homocysteine was 13, and my TSH measuring my thyroid output was 5.89, just a tad low.

This was achieved completely through natural means without recourse to any pharmaceuticals. In the second series of tests I also had my C reactive protein test checked, which, at 2.4, was within average range. Needless to say, my cardiovascular risk has decreased a great deal and my stamina has improved dramatically. I feel much better and my doctor said I should continue doing what I am doing; it’s working great.

Thyroid and Homocysteine

As described above, my test results showed that I did not only have high cholesterol. My thyroid was low and my homocysteine was quite high. These are very often associated with cardiovascular imbalances.

Thyroid

Low thyroid output is correlated with high cholesterol, low energy that leads to low or no exercise, and increased weight gain. Most often the blood test measures a hormone produced in the pituitary called TSH. When TSH is low, it is assumed that thyroid production of hormone is low. The normal range for TSH is 0.40 to 5.00.

The remedy: Low thyroid output is sometimes associated with low iodine. Since our salt has been enriched with iodine, deficiency is very rare, although people on a very low salt diet can be deficient. One way to measure if you have a normal iodine level is to purchase an iodine tincture from your pharmacy and apply it to your forearm. If it disappears in less than 24 hours, it indicates some level of deficiency. The quicker it disappears the greater the deficiency. Continue applying until it stays for twenty four hours. After you have reached the adequate level, maintain it with one kelp tablet per day. You can re-test periodically to make sure you are maintaining the right amount. Low thyroid is often a genetic imbalance that needs to be addressed on an ongoing basis. There are two natural products that I highly recommend for that purpose. They are produced by APEX Energetics.

Thyroxal I restores normal production. I recommend 2 to 3 tablets daily. Thyro CNV is designed to maximize the utilization of thyroid hormones.

I suggest 2 tablets per day.

Using Thyroxal alone, 2 tablets per day, my TSH went from 25.30 to 5.89. Normal is below 5 so I just increased the amount by one tablet per day.

Homocysteine

This is a genetic factor that increases the risk of plaque formation in the vessel walls. It is due to the improper conversion of an amino acid (methionine into another cysteine). The normal range for homocystein is equal to or below 13 umgl/L. The ideal is below 8.0 umgl/L

The Treatment: In my first test, my Homocysteine was 25 and I brought it down to 13. How did I do this? Lowering Homocysteine is usually very simple and only involves using 3 parts of the vitamin B complex: at least 50 mg of vitamin B6, 300 mcg of vitamin B12, and 500 to 800 mcg of folic acid. Homocysteine Factors from Pure Encapsulation, a product available on our website, www.babinetics.com, provides these vitamins in the correct ratio. I take two per day and this has brought my Homocystein to the normal level. I intend to take one more to see if I can reduce it further.

Problems Associated with Elevated Homocysteine

Go Beyond the Scope of Cardiovascular Risk: Because elevated homocysteine is a metabolic disorder associated with the conversion of one amino acid to another in both directions, it may directly affect the level of these amino acids in the body and all the other metabolic pathways associated with these amino acids. As a result, all the physiological pathways associated with methionine and cysteine will be affected. Also, cysteine is converted into taurine through a process called transsulfuration. As a result, all the functions in the body associated with taurine and sulfur can also be affected. The impact could be toxicity, chronic pain, depression, arthritis in the joints, immune deficiency, early onset dementia, and many other functional disorders discussed in the next paragraph.

Possible Impact of Homcysteine Elevation on Vital Nutrients:

Because homocysteine is located at this metabolic crossroad it impacts all methyl and sulfur-group metabolism occurring in the body. As a result, high homocysteine could impact negatively the biosynthesis of the following.

S-adenosylmethionine SAMe (regulating neurological feed back loop) Carnitine (associated with the metabolism of fat) Chondroitin sulfate (associated with joint health) Coenzyme A (associated with chronic allergies and fat and glucose

metabolism) Coenzyme Q10 (regulating energy metabolism in the cells) Creatine (supporting skeletal muscles) Cysteine (regulating the production of glutathione, a powerful cellular

antioxidant) Epinephrine (regulating acute stress response) Glucosamine (regulating joint health) Sulfate (regulating liver function) Glycine (involved in neurological pathways) Melatonin (regulating immunity and sleep) Phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylserine (neuro transmitter activity and

brain functions) Serine (needed for the proper metabolism of fats and fatty acids, the

growth of muscle, and the maintenance of a healthy immunity) Taurine (present in bile and necessary for cell membrane integrity, the

health of the eyes and proper cognitive function)

As you can see, any deficiency of these secondary nutrients produced within the body can have a profound influence on many aspects of your health and well being without necessarily reaching a pathological level at which they would be diagnosed medically.

If you have been suffering from any of the aforementioned conditions or you suspect any of the deficiencies mentioned above, do not delay. A simple test and a simple treatment may be the answer to life-long issues.

SUGAR METABOLIC IMBALANCE

Diabetes and insulin resistance considerably increase cardiovascular risks. The normal range for glucose after an 8-hour fast is below 120 mg/dl. Diabetes is above 140 mg/dl.

Low insulin absorption by the cell, called Syndrome X, or insulin resistance decreases the ability of the cells to convert sugar and fat into energy. This results in excess weight in the mid-section, and can lead to diabetes and increased cardiovascular risks. Normal insulin after an 8-hour fast is below 20 micro units/ml. Borderline insulin is 21 to 25 and diabetes is above 25.

Hemoglobin A 1 C: This test is particularly critical for people diagnosed with diabetes.

HbA1C, also called glycosylated hemoglobin, correlates well with average blood sugar over the last 3 months. The normal range is below 7.5% of total hemoglobin. The ideal range is 6 % of total hemoglobin. If the range is above 6.5%, any decrease of 1 % will decrease the risk of diabetes-related complications by at least 15%.

The treatment: Obviously, advanced diabetes and childhood onset diabetes are not within the scope of this report. In the case of adult onset diabetes and Syndrome X, we have found that the combination of diet, weight loss and specific supplements produces incredible results. The diet and exercise are covered further in this report so let’s talk here about the recommended supplements.

For the treatment of Syndrome X (insulin resistance), the product I recommend is produced by APEX Energetics and is called Glysen. The recommended dosage is 2 to 3 tablets twice daily with meals. It is available at 800-736-4381 and you must provide the number P 2058 when you order.

Cardiovascular Health

Page 10: Psychological Stress ( Impact and solutions) - babinetics.combabinetics.com/Reports/WORD Versions/Cardiovascular_Health.docx · Web viewMaintaining Your Cardiovascular Health Naturally

For late onset diabetes, if you have not yet been put on medication, I recommend a product from Physiologics called Diabest II. I suggest 1 to 2 capsules twice daily with meals.

If you are not testing yourself daily, get re-evaluated by your doctor to make sure your sugar is coming back into the normal range. Also remember that neither of these products are a substitute for a carbohydrate-restricted diet and regular exercise.

The Less Common Tests

C-Reactive Protein (CRP)

In recent years new research has been conducted on the impact of inflammation on the cardiovascular system. A new test has been designed to measure the degree of inflammation in the circulatory system. It is called C-Reactive Protein (high sensitivity). Normal range is 1.0 to 3.0 (mg/L). The ideal is below 1.0 and elevated is above 3.0. Above 10 is an indication of acute inflammation.

Treatment: Elevated CRP is always an indication of inflammation. Consequently, using an anti-inflammatory makes sense. As a result, many medical doctors suggest 80 mg of aspirin daily or some form of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory. While this may sound like a good idea, I believe that except in the case of an emergency, this should be avoided. Regular use of aspirin or NSAID can run havoc in the liver, kidneys and digestive system.

A great alternative is a product which has 30 years of clinical research in Germany. It is called Wobenzyme N. It is available on the Internet or in most health food stores. The recommended dosage is 3 to 5 tablets, 2 times daily, between meals or before sleep. The enzymatic combination of protease, bromelaine, papaine and Rutin, acts as a scavenger of abnormal dead tissues and abnormal micro-organism and is very effective in reducing chronic inflammation. It would probably benefit everyone to take this product throughout their adult lives. An

American equivalent is Nutrizyme, produced by American Nutriceuticals. Their phone number is 888-848-2548.

Lipoprotein a - Lp(a)

Plaque is composed primarily of Lp(a). It is not regular cholesterol. It is a substitute for ascorbic acid ((vitamin C). If the arteries get injured through an inflammatory process, they rely on vitamin C for tissue repair. If there is a lack of vitamin C, the body create an Lp(a) plaque to cover the injury. Progressively the scab grows and if the tissues are not healed underneath, the scab can detach and produce an arterial blockage or heart attack. High levels of homocysteine further complicate the problem by causing the LP(a) to attach to fibrin, thus increasing plaque formation in the vessel walls.

As this condition is clearly the result of a vitamin C deficiency, the logical treatment is to increase the intake of vitamin C and other tissue repair vitamins such as vitamin E and tocotrienols. The level of vitamin C you can take depends on your level of tolerance. If it gives you diarrhea, you are taking too much for your system. I recommend Pro-Ascorbate C available through MHP, phone number 800-647-0074 (mention that you are referred by Dr. Babinet). This vitamin C is in powder form - 1 teaspoon is equivalent to 4000 mg. I recommend using ¼ teaspoon 3 to 4 times daily. I would also combine this treatment with the Wobenzyme, discussed above, and if appropriate, with the treatment for homocysteiene.

Serum Ferritin

This test is more often associated with liver disease and certain types of cancer. However, some research has indicated a correlation between high serum ferritin levels and increased cardiac risks. Excess iron can be very detrimental to many aspects of health and supplementation with iron should be avoided by men of all ages, as well as post menopausal women. Normal serum ferritin for men is 20 to 300 ng/ml and for women is 15 to120 ng/ml. Ideal is between 20 and 50 for males and females.

Cardiovascular Health

Page 12: Psychological Stress ( Impact and solutions) - babinetics.combabinetics.com/Reports/WORD Versions/Cardiovascular_Health.docx · Web viewMaintaining Your Cardiovascular Health Naturally

Treatment: Elevated serum ferritin can be an indication of genetic abnormality or associated with serious liver damage. We will leave the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases to your medical doctor. Assuming that it is one of these issues, we recommend that you stop consuming supplements with iron. Apart from menstruating women and people diagnosed with anemia, there is no good reason for anyone else to take extra iron. Detoxifying the liver would be the second step (see Secrets to a Long Healthy Life E-book section on liver detoxification). Utilization of oral EDTA is also very effective in removing excess iron and calcium in the blood vessel.

Oral EDTA is available from MHP (phone number 800-647-0074; please mention Dr. Babinet to order). My recommended dosage is ½ jar, 2 times weekly, for a minimum of five months. Great results have also been reported with Wobenzyme, mentioned above, and with the use of vitamin C – 5000 mg per day. Elevated iron also contributes to infections because most micro-organisms thrive on iron. Therefore, lowering iron also contributes to lowering inflammation.

Serum Fibrinogen

Fibrin is involved in blood clotting. The reason it is used as a cardiovascular disease marker is that abnormal elevation increases the risk of developing blood clots. Over time blood clots could contribute to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, particularly if C-Reactive Protein and homocysteine levels are high. The normal range for men is 180 to 340 mg/dL; for women it is 190 to 422 mg/dL. Ideal for both sexes is between 150 and 300 mg/dL. Serum fibrinogen increases automatically with acute inflammation and may be affected by many drugs.

Treatment: Because elevated serum fibrinogen is usually associated with inflammation, Wobenzyme and vitamin C, E and tocotrienals are highly recommended, as well as fish oil, garlic and niacin, discussed above.

Lifestyle Changes

I want to emphasize here that unless I am dealing with a crisis, I usually recommend treating the terrain before treating specific issues. In addition,

Cardiovascular Health

cardiovascular emergencies are within the scope of traditional medicine and not within my scope of my practice. In addition, I always recommend following your medical doctor’s advice. Consequently, please look at the following suggestions as alternative approaches to be used at the first indication of an abnormal test. Do not wait until your system has broken down.

First Steps First

The first steps in treating cardiovascular dysfunction are: stop smoking, change your diet, start exercising regularly, and learn how to deal more effectively with life challenges. People who blow up easily are much more prone to cardiovascular problems.

Smoking Cessation

If you have smoked in the past 20 years your cardiovascular risk is elevated. The more you have smoked and the more recent the habit, the higher the risk. There are many programs to help you stop smoking: over the counter products, hypnosis, acupuncture, support group etc. Whatever you choose, it will work if you are motivated. In addition to cardiovascular risks, smoking also increases your chance of developing lung and stomach cancer and these are among the least treatable types of cancer. So if you don’t do it for yourself, do it for whomever you care for: your husband, wife, children, parents, girlfriend, boyfriend, etc. You will improve your health and theirs.

Nutrition

Most cholesterol is produced in the body (approximately 93%), so a low cholesterol diet is not the answer. Reducing homogenized fat and some saturated fat is probably a great idea. It will help reduce your triglycerides and may help you lose weight. Remember though, not all fats are bad for you or increase your cardiovascular risk. Fat is one of the main sources of energy in the body and Essential Fatty Acids (EFA) are essential to balance your hormones and help deal with inflammation.

Cardiovascular Health

Contrary to what you may have heard in the past, the biggest problem is not fat. It is carbohydrates - more particularly, refined carbohydrates, especially bleached flour, sugar, fruit juice, sodas, ice cream and alcohols. The reason these products are more treacherous is because they lead to sugar metabolic disorders, obesity, chronic inflammation, and addiction. When cells become insulin resistant due to the onslaught of carbohydrates, they have more difficulty converting sugar and fat into energy. As a result, your pancreas produces more and more insulin. This insulin creates chronic inflammation that stresses the adrenals, and the sugar and fat get stored as extra weight.

Finally your body becomes unable to produce the insulin that it needs and you become diabetic. Every stage of this process increases your cardiovascular risks.

The South Beach Diet

The best and easiest nutritional plan to address this problem is the South Beach Diet. It was designed by a cardiologist Dr. Arthur Agatston. He wanted to create a user friendly diet that would be effective, easy to follow and not overly restrictive. I have been on his plan and I easily lost the weight that I needed to lose. Even while traveling, I have succeeded in stabilizing my weight. This is something that I had not been able to do in the past. I traveled in France for three weeks and within five days of my return I was back on track. Reversing Syndrome X (insulin resistance) is absolutely essential to restore cardiovascular health. It will also help you lose weight and regain your stamina.

A few products that you can add to his program for more complete results are:

From Apex: Glysen to help restore sugar metabolism (see my website for details at www.babinetics.com)

Citrimax to increase the weight loss L-Carnitine to increase the conversion of fat into energy

Cardiovascular Health

Exercise

No healing of the cardiovascular system can be complete without regular exercise. It is essential to burn the fat and help you lose weight. Be aware that when you start exercising, your weight may not decrease at the beginning. The fat first burns in the muscle and is replaced by muscle fiber. It takes 3 steady months of exercise to see a major impact on the visible fat of the body.

When you exercise, do not exceed the normal heart rate for your age. According to the American Medical Association your maximum heart rate is 220 minus your age. Your target heart rate should be within 50 to 75% of your maximum heart rate. For example in my case: at age 64, my maximum heart rate is 156. Consequently my target heart rate is between 78 and 117. When I started exercising I began getting my heart rate to around 90. Now it is more frequently around 110.

Here is a way to measure your heart rate if you do not have a heart monitor on you or on the equipment you are using. Take your pulse rate at the wrist for 10 seconds and multiply by six. Remember that in order to be effective, your exercise should produce a light sweat and be sustained for at least 20 minutes. The experts used to recommend a minimum of 20 minutes of exercise at least 3 times a week. Now the indicators suggest exercising at least 35 minutes, a minimum of 4 times per week.

There are people who like to alternate aerobic and other types of exercise. I think it is a great idea. Personally, I like to incorporate in my weekly program some Gyrokinesis, which helps tone and stretch the muscles. You can create your own system but remember that it is the duration and the consistency that makes it - not just a little bit of exercise whenever you feel like it.

Stress Management

Stress, and particularly explosive emotional reactions to stress, is one of the many factors to watch in healing your cardiovascular system. Blowing off steam does not cool the biological system, it actually overheats it. If you find yourself

Cardiovascular Health

consistently over reacting and being angry at yourself, your family, the way the world is being run etc, you had better learn to cool off. My Secrets to a Long Healthy Life E-Book mentions many ways to decrease your stress level. I suggest that if it is your temperament, you start examining how to approach situations in your life in a less abusive way.

If you need more help and support in bringing your anger under control I would suggest that you look into a system called Non Violent Communication. It was developed by Marshal Rosenberg and has been used all over the world to improve communication and promote effectiveness. If unresolved issues from the past are interfering with your ability to create the life you want, I would suggest that you check out Landmark Education. Both of these organizations can be found on the Internet.

Keeping Your Heart Healthy

I have covered the circulatory system at some length but I have not said much about the heart itself.

The first thing to understand, from a maintenance point of view, is that the heart is a muscle that acts as a pump. Like all muscles, it needs to be oxygenated, it needs to receive the proper nutrients, and it needs to be exercised. For this reason, regular cardiovascular exercise is vital to tone the heart and maintain it in good shape. The heart is also an organ that functions all the time. Even when it is not challenged, it still needs to be strong enough to send the blood to all the extremities. Every cell in our body is dependent on that blood flow and would die very rapidly without it.

Because the heart has to sustain its action, it has to constantly produce energy to sustain itself. For this reason, it is one of the organs which consume the most CoQ10, a co-enzyme which is critical for the production of cellular energy. Dr. Steven Sinatra, a well known cardiologist who has done extensive studies on the natural treatment of cardiovascular disease, believes that CoQ10 is one of the most
