Literary and Musical
Competitions on
October 26-29, 2016.
Pangasinan State
University ranked 2nd in
the Over-all regional
event garnering 141
points.
United with the
theme, “PASUC 1:
Paving the Path
Towards
Internationalism of SUC
through Culture and the
Arts,” six competing
state universities and
colleges that includes
Pangasinan State
University (PSU),
University of Northern
Philippines (UNP), Ilocos
Sur Polytenic State
College (ISPSC), Don
Mariano Marcos
Memorial State
University (DMMMSU),
Mariano Marcos State
University (MMSU), and
North Luzon Polytechnic
State College (NLPSC)
assembled in the PSU
grounds on October 26
for the Opening
Ceremony.
PSU President Dr.
Dexter R. Buted warmly
welcomed the
delegates and officially
opened the program
for the University’s
hosting of annual
regional event which
featured academic,
cultural, literary, visual,
and musical
competitions.
Live Band and
Instrumental Solo
Competitions kicked off
on the first day followed
by Radio Drama, Short
and Sweet Play, Literary
and Visual Contests,
Quiz Bowl, and Dance
Competitions (classified
into four categories
namely: Contemporary,
Hiphop, Folk Dance,
and indigenous Dance)
on the second day of
the event.
Later in the
evening, Search for Mr.
and Ms. PASUC 2016
highlighted the three-
day regional event.
Musical contests
on Kundiman, Pop Solo,
Duet, and Choral is
slated on the third day.
On the third day,
recognitions of winners
in various competition
and awarding
ceremony was
conducted later in the
afternoon. Contestants
who were named
Champions will be
representing the Region
in the National PASUC
which will be held in
UNP, Vigan, Ilocos Sur in
December this year.
MMSU, who was
reigning for 13 years,
was again named as
this year’s over-all
champion. Other
runners up were:
DMMMSU, 2nd runner up;
UNP, 3rd runner up;
ISPSC, 4th runner up; and
NLPSC, 5th runner up.

Also present are the differ-ent student leaders, faculty members and non-teaching staff , alumni and PTA officers of the different
campuses. The University’s 37 years is a commemoration of its glorious history and gradual development through the years as it con-tinues to aspire for more improvements and greater progress in the many more years to come.
Pangasinan State University conducted its 37th Anniversary celebra-tion with the theme, “PSU @ 37: Catalyst of Change for Greater Accountability and Transparency.” The event on October 24-26, 2016 is a jubilation of suc-cess brought about by the numerous achievements of the University in pursuit of its vision along its quadric functions in instruction, re-search, extension, and pro-duction. The highlights of this year’s anniversary cel-ebration were the blessing and inauguration of the newly constructed/renovated buildings, presentation of University accomplishments, Search for Mr. & Ms. PSU, float parade and other activities including thanksgiving mass, medical and dental mission, sports develop-ment activities, Vision and Mission awareness, and research exposition/exhibits. Presentation of Universi-ty Accomplishments for SY 2015-2016 Dr. Dexter R. But-ed highlighted the accom-plishments of the University
for S.Y. 2015-2016 along with the eight strategic goals and the institution’s thrust in delivering quality education to its prime customers – the students. Included in the first strategic goal – excellent stu-dent learning and career de-velopment are the implemen-tation of the institutional amalgamation; re-engineered and upgraded curricula to produce competent and job-ready graduates; implemen-tation and use of new uni-forms; awarding of cash in-centives to National Licen-sure Board Exam topnotch-ers; creation of PSU review center; recognition of PSUni-an Star Awardees; student empowerment through lead-ership, academic and cultural trainings; rehabilitation and repairs of learning facilities and equipment; construction of new buildings; establish-ment of Center of English Language, Sentro ng Wikang Filipino, and Integrated School (in Bayambang); in-creased number of accredit-ed programs offered by the University; additions of schol-arship grants; and recogni-tion of Gawad Parangal sa Natatanging Mag-aaral ng Mag-aaral ng PSU, a pro-gram that is crafted to further inspire students especially
non-graduating students to pursue their studies. The establishment of international research linkages and presentation of the Instructional Multiple Binaural Acoustic Stetho-scope invented by Dr. Cat-alina C. Platon, Deputy Director for Gender and development were high-lighted in the second stra-tegic goal – strong re-search culture and tech-nology transfer. Meanwhile, the evolution of institutional vision and mission, crea-tion of core values and guiding philosophy, univer-sity logo, new organiza-tional structure, launching of President’s hour and Brigada Unibersidad, es-tablishment of commercial centers, implementation of University’s Quality Man-agement System, con-struction of new buildings, computerized enrollment were few among the many focus of the third strategic goal – good governance. Likewise, in order to ac-complish the fourth strate-gic goal – sustainable so-cial responsibilities – sev-eral support government mandate/advocacies were funded by the University.
A list of seminars and workshops conducted, establishment of training institute center, and review of operational processes to ensure quality human re-source management and development were also presented during Presi-dent’s lecture. In realization of the 7th strategic goal – respon-sive to globalization and diversity – PSU continues to enhance its international affairs through linkages and ties up with other inter-national universities. Lastly, assurance of the delivery of customer-focused service was realized through Uni-versity’s strengthen institu-tional branding, conduct of monitoring and evaluating of all conducted programs, and service delivery opera-tions. The said event was attended by Hon. Catherine Velasco, representative to Sen. Benigno Paolo Aqui-no, IV, members of the Board of Regents namely: Hon. Ramon P. Bautista, Hon. Joseph Lopez, Hon.
