Backstory: While deployed into a combat zoneoverseas, Trenton O’Neil’s infantry unit wasassigned to provide security for Dr. LoranaWilson — a biologist working on a top secretmilitary program. One night her lab wasoverrun by an insurgent squad who hadsomehow penetrated deep behind friendlylines. During the ensuing firefight, Dr. Wilsoninjected Trent with a serum she had beendeveloping before they were both knockedunconscious by an explosion.

Trent awoke in a locked room, chained to atable. As his captors began to question him, hewas shocked to discover that he was able to

shrink out of his bonds. Shrinking wasn’t theonly new talent he possessed. He found he wasnow able to throw searing bolts of psychicenergy from his hands and fly with the aid ofpsychic “wings”. Using his new-found abilities,he killed his captors and liberated his fewremaining squadmates. Unfortunately, Dr.Wilson was not to be found.

He returned to the Forward Operating Base(FOB) to explain his actions and the eventsleading to his squads capture. He was carefulto avoid any mention of Wilson’s serum or his

new abilities. Eventually, he was releasedback to duty, finished out his tour withoutincident and returned home.

While job searching, he was contacted by thedecidedly not dead Dr. Wilson, who broughthim to her own underground lab fordebriefing. Trent was paid handsomely for notonly saving Dr. Wilson, but for not revealingthe formula’s existence (or his new powers).She explained to him that Project: Red Waspwas a US military program designed to createmetahuman assassins, spies, and saboteurs.The local militia in the warzone had beentipped off out about Dr. Wilson’s experimentsand she wasn’t sure if the information hadbeen fed to them by her rivals within theDepartment of Defense (DoD) or perhaps bythe intelligence agency of an unfriendlynation. She was staying undercover until shecould find out exactly who had leaked theinformation and why.

As she was operating in secret, Wilson neededhelp procuring material, research data and thecash she would need to continue heroperation. Trenton had exactly the skills tohelp her with these problems. Dr. Wilson hiredhim and sent him on a variety of missions thatusually involved getting secrets from lockedrooms, breaking into secure buildings to pilfertop secret technology, and stealing loads ofcash.

When he voiced some ethical concerns, Wilsonassured Trenton that all of their targets were“morally compromised” — war profiteeringcorporations, corrupt agencies workingtowards dubious agendas or companies whowere fronts for foreign governmentsunsympathetic to America. Trenton easilyaccepts Wilson’s rationale. (He’s deeply inlove with her and has been since their timeoverseas. He has no idea if his feelings arereciprocated.)

The duo remains at large and are currently onthe top of the government’s Most WantedMetahuman List. Thanks to extensive presscoverage for a successful escape from an FBIraid (and some high profile heists that Trenton

has pulled off) they’ve garnered a reputationas a supervillain Bonnie and Clyde in the publiceye.

The DoD maintains that Wilson is controllingPsi-Wasp through mind-control nanotechnologyin her super-soldier serum. No firm proof hasbeen produced yet, and the general publicregards this assertion skeptically. The popularview of Psi-Wasp and Dr. Wilson is as star-crossed lovers fighting an oppressivegovernment conspiracy against them.

Adventure Hooks• The authorities have received a tip that Psi-Wasp will be attempting to stage a heist at auniversity in the PCs’ city which is hosting asymposium on the use of cutting edgenanotechnology to treat neurologicaldisorders. A vial of the experimental nanites isbelieved to be his target. Although theuniversity has tightened security for the event,the heroes are recruited to provide additionalsecurity. NOTE: a friendly professor in theAdvanced Physics Department might be onhand and have the necessary technology onhand to shrink the heroes should they need tofollow Psi-Wasp at smaller sizes.

• The authorities believe they have thelocation for Psi-Wasp and Dr. Wilson’s currentbase of operations. The PCs have been tappedto try to capture the famous supervillainswhere the police and FBI have failed in thepast.

However, the uncontrolled energies of thedisaster displaced Dr von Skorn's mind into thebody of his young female hostage, who wasrescued from the inferno. In his previous life,he was a spiteful, misogynistic beast of a man.Now, trapped in the body of a young girl,every glance in a mirror fills Dr von Skorn withscornful, self-loathing rage.

The doctor's new supervillain identity is knownas Bombshell. (He is paranoid that any of hisformer colleagues in the ranks of villainy mightdiscover that Bombshell is secretly the

So far, all attempts have been unsuccessful.

Bombshell's arcanotech arsenal includes anenhanced pheromonal perfume, various druginjectors, impact-resistant clothing,concealable explosives, and a mind-controlbeam that can be carried in a handbag.

Backstory: Connor Reed worked tirelessly toget into the City University PhysicsDepartment in order to further his research inholography. Socially awkward with a mildhearing disability, his college years had beentorture — he was bullied and ridiculed forbeing different. Despite his troubles, hestudied fervently and became one of the topgrad students in America working in advancedholographics.

Alas — his dreams were to be denied. A prankby a group of colleagues sabotaged hishologram equipment the night before hispresentation to his doctoral reviewcommittee. Embarrassed and humiliated,Reed’s presentation was a failure and he was

kicked out of the university.

With all his hard work and years of sacrificefor naught, Connor Reed snapped. The dayCity University kicked him out Connor Reeddied. Forevermore, he would be known asHolo-Master.

Holo-Master modified his equipment into aportable rig with wrist-mounted hard lighthologram projectors that he could controldirectly from a neural output jack on the baseof his skull. He added precision jet boots thatfocused the hard light energy for flight and hisnew identity was ready to meet the world.

enough to fool just about anyone who sawthem because, with his advanced technology,they were tactile and auditory illusions aswell. As far as his victims were concerned, hewas a diabolical supervillain who couldsummon a horde of rampaging robots to sackthe financial district or conjure up a reddragon to terrorize a college campus. He'seven able to “disappear” by hiding in plainsight and using his hologram projections torender himself invisible.

Holo-Master holds a special place of contemptfor his Alma Mater. He has terrorized thefaculty and students of City University — goingso far as to extort millions of dollars from theadministration as “insurance” against futureattacks.

He uses his criminal career to finance hiscontinuing research which is his passion.Generally he operates alone but occasionallyhe will hire out as muscle for anothersupervillain.

Adventure HookThe Heroes respond to a distress call. A hordeof zombies is terrorizing a rush hour trafficdowntown. There are multiple situations todefuse (crowds of civillains on the verge ofpanicking, car wrecks caused by gawkers, anoverturned fuel tanker leaking diesel etc).Meanwhile, Holo-Master is using the chaoscaused by his illusions to quietly hold upseveral jewelry stores.

Backstory: Calvin Briggs was a brilliant scientistwho believed the movies were wrong. Hebelieved that first contact with alien lifewould be an enlightening and positiveexperience for both species. While working forNASA, Calvin created the STARLOK program.Much like the Voyager satellite, the STARLOKrobot (Space Traveller, Ambassador, & Rangerw/ interLOcK technology) was a machine thatcould withstand the rigors of space whilecarrying a message of peace and cooperationto the stars. Additionally, STARLOK could alsouse specialized electromagnetics for defense

and transportation.

After several failed attempts at a workingprototype, Model VII exceeded all expectationsand was loaded aboard the Argo, an unmannedstarship with a faster-than-light gravity drivecapable of travelling out of the solar systemand into deep space. The ship left the solarsystem three months after launch andpromptly fell silent. Despite the best efforts ofCalvin Biggs and other scientists it was nearlythree years went by before NASA received asingle two word message from the Argo:“Coming home.”

The Argo landed at Johnson Space Center inTexas to extreme fanfare. The STARLOK robotexited the Argo and saluted, drawing cheersfrom the crowd. “I bring a message of peace... through assimilation,” the robot said beforelaunching a cloud of nanites into the crowd.Dozens of attendees dropped to the ground asthe nanite swarm spread and wrapped theirbodies in a gleaming metallic shell. Theinfected people rose as mind-controlled dronesunder the command of STARLOK.

With his drones serving as foot soldiers,STARLOK attacked and captured much of theJohnson Space Center and several outlyingsuburbs of Houston before the heroMetallimaster arrived. The battle reached afevered pitch when Metallimaster sacrificedhimself to destroy the robot.

Despite Matllimaster’s sacrifice, STARLOK VIIhas since returned on several occasions to tryand enslave humanity again. Dr. Briggshypothesizes that the robot has gained theability to regenerate itself given enough timeand materials. (Although the Argo and all itsflight data have been copiously studied, theidentity of the robot’s masters is unknown.)

Adventure HookNews of a STARLOK VII attack has gone acrossall media outlets. Talco Energy has reportedthat the Vega Star Oil Drilling Platform is beingassaulted by the robot. At five miles offshore,the Coast Guard thought it would be an easyfeat to mount a rescue operation. They weremistaken and STARLOK has made short work ofall boats and helicopters they sent. With theworkers assimilated and under his control,STARLOK is modifying the drilling platform forsome unknown purpose. A government scientisthas a credible theory that the robot intends touse the drill to touch off a major, continentshaking earthquake. Can the heroes find a wayto get out to the platform and stop STARLOKVII?

Exiled Cosmic Dictator

Backstory: Karen Braley was a child of thefoster care system. She couldn’t get alongwith any foster family for very long and so shebounced from one home to another. She hadgrown jaded about love when it was offeredand resented those that had it when it wasn’t.

One day, shortly after her 16th birthday, herlife was rocked when two men in strangeuniforms showed up and stunned her fosterparents with quick energy blasts. They tookher to the outskirts of town where they had a

small, cloaked starship. They told her that heractual name was Kara Braeyal. She was thedaughter of Dormak, the Silent King, who hadbeen ruler of the Hazani Star Empire beforebeing deposed by the Vandian DemocraticUprising and imprisoned on the planet Haziel.

Her mother, the queen, had died during therevolt. Her last command had been for herRoyal Guardsmen to spirit her daughter toEarth in order to make sure that her she couldgrow up in freedom and one day retake thethrone. As a Hazani “royal” she had powers farsuperior to any human.

The Guardsmen had secretly watched her growup. Now that she had come of age, it was timefor her to live in a manner befitting a princess

of the Hazani Empire (or the proper Hazanititle: Nova Star) and be trained in matters ofwar and statecraft so that she might one dayfree her father and regain his throne.

Kara (and the Guardsmen who had rescuedher) conquered an independent island chainoff the coast of Chile called El Mar de Estrellas(Sea of Stars). After deposing the governmentand declaring it a sovereign state under theirrule, they set about developing the nation’seconomy.

Part of that effort includes Novis United, atech company that set the world on fire withtheir innovations (secretly based on off-worldtechnology.) Novis’ smart phones and personalcomputing devices (smart watches, fit trackersand wearable computers) are severalgenerations ahead of anything the competitionoffers. Although many nations are deeplycritical of Kara and her Guardsmen taking overa sovereign nation — most (encouraged byconsumers’ eagerness to obtain Novis’ devices)now have trade relations with them (even ifdiplomatic relations are still touchy at best.)

The world is not aware that Kara and herGuardsman are aliens. They are regarded asmetahumans who violently “liberated” anisland from a despot who also happen to run asuccessful tech company. Their best keptsecret is their plan to use their nation andcompany as the base from which to launchtheir plans to take back the Hazani throne.Many of their citizens are now secretlyemployed to build star cruisers in hiddenunderground facilities. Additionally, Novisinstalls covert mind control devices into manyof their popular lines of products. When thetime comes, an unsuspecting populace wearingNovis smart watches, fit trackers and otherdevices will come under Kara’s mental controland board her starships as slave soldiers.

Until that day, ruling the small country allowsKara a platform to learn the intricacies ofleadership while the Guardsmen mould her tobe every bit the tyrant her father was. Theyhave few enemies to worry about — other thanthe occasional Hazani Securitor Robots sent by

her father’s enemies to assassinate her.

Kara sometimes leaves the island in search ofmaterials for the plan. She tries to buy orbarter when she can. So far she has alwaysbeen successful. If she is ever refused, theworld will see her power as Nova Star as shetakes what is rightfully hers.

Adventure HookCerberus Portal Solutions (CPS) (based nearthe PCs’ city) has devised a portableteleportation system specifically fortransporting people or cargo vast distancesinstantly. There’s even talk of using it forspace exploration Novis United has madeseveral bids to buy this tech from CPS but havebeen turned down every time. Nova Starstorms into the CPS facility with the intent oftaking possession of the technology. Shereleases a powerful Hazani sentry robot dronein berserker mode to distract the securitypersonnel. While chaos ensues, Nova Starsearches for the teleportation system (or justthe CPS engineer who designed it). Can theHeroes get to Cerberus and stop the mayhem?

Backstory: King Abiodun is the supreme leaderof the small, prosperous African nation ofImara.

Up until a few years ago, Imara was a strife-torn, failed state in Sub-Saharan Africa.Battered by famine, natural disasters and civil

war, the country seemed fated to a future ofsuffering that is until King Abiodun arrived.

Until King Abiodun came. His name means“born during war” and he lived up to it —slaying the bickering warlords who had dividedImara and deposing the weak and corruptgovernment who had failed his country for solong. With this technical genius, he rapidlyrevolutionized Imara: rebuilding crumblinginfrastructure, restoring depleted fields andestablishing an education system that is theenvy of the world. Where once there wasstarving and suffering, now there wasprosperity and peace.

Once firmly installed as ruling monarch,

Abiodun revitalized his country's industrialsector with the discovery of Imarite — awondrous mineral found only in the hills andmountains of Imara. Imarite provides a cleanburning energy source with many times theenergy output of coal or petroleum. Itsdiscovery has ushered in a slew of inventionsthat have helped enrich Imara.

With a standard of living exceeding mostindustrialized nations and a booming economythat thrives on exporting exotic electronicsand computers, no citizen wants for anything— as long as they bend knee to Abiodun. Theking maintains an iron-fisted rule over Imara.Dissent is not tolerated and is dealt withharshly. Critics complain about human rightsviolations in Imara, but Abiodunn disregardstheir concerns as “the insults of naiveoutsiders” who do not understand what isnecessary to keep Imara safe and prosperous.

Imara is often at war with its neighbors andhas seized territory repeatedly to create“buffer zones” around itself. While thismilitary adventurism is frowned upon by theUN, no direct action has been taken to counterit.

When in public, Abiodun always wears a battlesuit fueled by Imarite. His face is alwayscovered to hide the scars he received duringthe battles to liberate Imara. Rumors persistthat Abiodun (whose birth name is GeroBuhari) used black magic and an army ofzombies to defeat the warlords and uniteImara. Abiodun dismisses such rumors out ofhand and insists that he is a man of science.Likewise, he jokes that the many reports of hiscountry’s aggressive industrial espionageprograms are perpetrated by rival nations whoare simply jealous of Imara's technicalinnovation and success.

Abiodun can be played as a simple villain or asan honorable (if somewhat arrogant) mandriven to perhaps understandable extremes toprotect his country from dire threats. Hewould make an excellent foil and/orsometimes ally for a super-science hero.

Adventure HookKing Abiodun’s son is visiting the heroes’ cityon a good-will tour. During an impromptu visitto a government office he shocks theassembled media when he asks for immediatepolitical asylum. He states that his father is abrutal dictator and he doesn’t wish to grow upto fill his tyrannical boots.

Within minutes, King Abiodun himself appearsin the financial district and blasts severaloffice buildings to “get the city’s attention.”Abiodun broadcasts a message across all TVand radio frequencies claiming that his son hasbeen brainwashed as part of a propagandacampaign against Imara. The King demandsthat his son be returned to him immediately orthe city will feel his “full wrath”. The PCs arecalled in to deal with the situation

Backstory: Sapphire is an extradimensionalsorcerer from a plane called the AzureExpanse. In addition to being a separatedimension, the Azure Expanse is a living entityof immense mystical power. Since the dawn oftime it has empowered champions to serve itby searching the multiverse for planets rich inmagical energy. The Expanse sustains itself byvia an occult ritual (conducted by itschampions) that drains planets of theirmystical power; leaving them largelyunharmed but bereft of all magic.

Sapphire (the current champion of the AzureExpanse) invaded our world in prehistorictimes. Her plan to drain Earth of magic wasfoiled after a great battle in which she wasdefeated by an alliance of shamans, priestsand wizards. She was then imprisoned into amagical gemstone and her enemies broke her

most powerful artifact (a wizard’s staff shecalled her “Key”) into several pieces and hidthem around the globe to ensure she wouldn'tbe at full power should she manage to escapeher mystical prison.

As the centuries flowed by, the cataclysmicbattle against Sapphire was forgotten and eventhe legends of it remained only as obliquereferences in the dustiest tomes of esotericoccult lore. The gemstone that was Sapphire’sprison wound up in a Mayan tomb in CentralMexico and, from there, eventually in amuseum exhibit detailing pre-Columbian burialrituals in North America.

Hana Proud was visiting the museum with herfamily. Imprisoned and hopeless all theseyears, Sapphire sensed untapped power withinHana that she could use. Using her last bit ofstrength, Sapphire compelled the gemstone tofly out of its display case and embed itselfdeep into Hana’s chest. Hana collapsed to theground, and then arose, levitating into the air.In a deep, melodic voice that was not her own,Hana said: “I have returned at long last. Thisworld shall yet kneel before me,” before flyingout of the museum.

Sapphire had been biding her time these manyeons, waiting to come into contact withsomeone she could possess. Hana’s latentpsychic powers gave her the perfectopportunity. Since her awakening, Sapphirehas been a scourge to Earth’s magicians (bothheroes and villains). Remembering her defeateons ago, he rightly sees any Earthborn magicuser as an enemy. She hunts them downmethodically in preparation for her nextattempt at world conquest.

When she's not hunting spellcasters, she seeksthe pieces of her “Key” — her most powerfulartifact. Once she finds all the pieces of theKey (and does the necessary ritual to repair it)her connection to the Azure Expanse will begreatly enhanced and her power wouldapproach god-like levels.

Sapphire’s connection to the power of theExpanse is weakened, for some reason,whenever she is on Holy Ground (ie in achurch, tabernacle or sacred burial site of anyreligion). A hero with the Occult specialty maybe able to sense this with a success on anAwareness test.

Mystically oriented heroes (or those withpsychic powers) may be able to pick up onHana’s pleas for help while they’re fightingSapphire. If they can find a way to channelsome psychic energy to Hana’s fight to evictSapphire from her body, they may be able todistract Sapphire enough to hinder her to somedegree during a fight.

Exorcising Sapphire fully from Hana should bean epic task that requires a massive success ona test. Alternately, instead of one test, apyramid test (with individual tests forresearching the proper ritual, restrainingSapphire, and properly conducting the ritual)would be a good way to handle this.

Adventure Hooks● Sapphire has taken out several high profilemagic-users (both heroes and villains) sinceher awakening. A sorcerer who is friendly withthe heroes (or perhaps - more interestingly — along-standing enemy) has asked for theirprotection as she believes she is the nexttarget. She has used a location spell todetermine Sapphire’s base of operations andshe proposes a preemptive strike.

● The City Museum of Science and Antiquitiesis holding a large debut of “The Angry March:Path of the Vikings” Of particular interest is aset of Viking Warding Stones, found inside ofan Irish burial mound. (The stones weresupposedly used to ward off evil spirits so thebodies of the dead couldn’t be possessed.)Sapphire believes that one of the stones is aparty of her “Key” and might be able to leadher to other parts. Backstory: Sirina Rostovich discovered hermutant powers of teleportation anddimensional travel in junior high school. Shewas quickly recruited into a Department ofDefense (DoD) security program that studiedand tested young metahumans.

Colonel Carter Sinclair was one of the officersin charge of the DoD program and he workedwith Sirina and her parents to help her masterher powers. He promised them she could have

an amazing life if she worked for him on ateam he oversaw (when she was old enough.)

After graduation, Sirina took him up on hisoffer and joined the Colonel to work forSanction Alpha, his covert metahuman striketeam. Sanction Alpha was responsible forstopping dimensional invasions into our world.The team was made up of highly trainedmetahuman military operators withteleportation and dimensional travel powers.Sirina was a natural and, after assuming the

Sanction Alpha enjoyed a long, distinguishedrun and defended Earth from several threats —ranging from interdimensional raiders andslavers to full-fledged invasions. Sirina and theother soldiers on the team were decoratedrepeatedly for courage under fire.

And then, one day, it all fell apart.

On that day, FBI agents in tactical assault gearshowed up at the Sanction Alpha facility andarrested everyone. They claimed that Sinclairhad been operating the Sanction Alpha teamas a rogue unit without proper oversight andwith an illegal black budget. Sinclair wasspirited away while all of his operatives werearrested and locked up in a secret militaryprison.

After six months of captivity, Sirina was ableto overcome the power dampening field in hercell and escaped, rescuing her fellow SanctionAlpha soldiers and wiping out the guards. Onceoutside, Sirina and the rest of the formerSanction Alpha agents promptly split up andwent underground to avoid capture.

The next six months were eventful. Shetracked down every member of FBI squad whojailed her and her team and “gated” them allsomewhere profoundly unpleasant. Soonafterwards the government classified Sirina asa “dimensional terrorist”.

During this rampage, she learned that thegovernment had privatized dimensionaldefense. A private defense contractor hadcreated the ECHO (Extra-DimensionalContainment and Hazard Operations) unit.

Now, she was actively hunted by ECHO agents.They were well trained and equipped — but, sofar, Sirina has been more than a match for anyof them. After every battle, she covertlyteleports into the office of the ECHO directorand places on his desk the shoulder patchesfrom the uniforms of the agents she hasdefeated.

Despite the forces working against her, herreign of terror continues. She has broken intogovernment facilities, stolen and leaked topsecret information, and gated government andmilitary officials who she felt were corrupt toinhospitable locations. During her vendetta,Sirina always continues to look for clues to thewhereabouts of her friend and mentor, Col.Sinclair.

Adventure HookThe heroes get word that everyone at a backtie fundraiser for Senator Michael Williams hasbeen taken hostage. Blue Shift has hired a halfdozen mercenaries (Use the stats for soldiers -ICONS Assembled Pg. 192 - 2 per Hero) to helpher. She is there to find out what the senatorknows about the Quantum Shift TrackingModule, a top secret ECHO Project. She insiststhat no harm will come to the senator or theguests as long as he answers her questions.The senator is dragging his heels and one ofthe guests managed to call the police — so astandoff has ensued. Blue Shift tells the police(and the heroes) that her troops have havewired all the doors and windows withexplosives (Blast 6, Burst). Blue Shift herself isholding a dead man's switch that will detonatethe explosives if she activates it. Can theheroes get the hostages out (either vianegotiation or more forceful means) beforethe worst can happen? Can they find a way tocapture the elusive teleporting terror?

Backstory: Carter Vaus was good at a lot ofthings, but never great at anything. Whilegood enough to get into a decent college, hewasn’t smart enough or athletic enough to geta scholarship to pay for it. And so the billsbegan to pile up. Always on the look out foreasy money, Carter volunteered as a labassistant for a world famous biology professor,Emmet Dulaney who was experimenting withgenetic engineering and the medicalapplications of reptilian DNA.

During a routine transfer of a geneticallymodified cobra, Carter was bit. The mutantpoison acted unusually rapidly and theprofessor realized he wouldn’t have time to

synthesize any antivenom. The only way theprofessor could save him from an agonizingdeath was to use his genetic modificationchamber to give Carter the toxin resistance ofthe cobra, the metabolism of a python, andthe regenerative properties of a leopardgecko. The resultant treatment was fast actingand put Carter in a coma for days. When heawoke, he was fine and in good spirits. Aftersome tests, he was released.

Carter discovered his treatment had given himsuperhuman abilities. He could stretch hisbody as well as eject venomous bone spikesfrom his hands. He tried to become asuperhero for hire with disastrous results whenhe accidentally killed a criminal. After athorough psychiatric and medical evaluation,the authorities ruled that the process Carterhad undergone had warped his mind — makinghim an ego-driven sociopath. They deemedhim too unstable to retain his powers.

While serving a sentence for manslaughter at asupervillain prison, he was ordered to undergoan experimental procedure developed byAquious LLC which was designed to remove hisnew abilities. (Aquious was an ocean-basedresearch firm that had patented a process inwhich nanites were used to create a protectivecoating around wildlife while healing andcleaning from oil, debris, or toxins.) With somemodifications (and help from Carter’s formerprofessor) it was believed the process could“cure” mutants (even artificial mutations likeCarter’s.)

Unfortunately, the experiment was a disaster.Carter’s aggressive, mutated genetics found away to trick the machines into merging withhim. Instead of removing his mutations,Aquious’ treatment had enhanced them. Newlyempowered with a damage resistant metallicskin made up of nanites, Carter broke freefrom the prison’s surgery suite and escaped.

After adopting the supervillain codename ofCobra Chrome, he launched a one man crimewave with the goal of getting all the things inlife he had always been denied. Robbery,assault, and mayhem are all means to an end.

Adventure Hooks● Aquious LLC has tracked down Cobra Chrometo the swamps near the PCs’ city. Theycontact the heroes in hopes that they will helpcapture him discreetly. They offer to help theheroes in any way they can. What the heroesdon’t know is that Cobra Chrome has found anabandoned Aquious Research Station. Thefacility, damaged in a hurricane, is flooded,and covered in overgrowth. Cobra haskidnapped several scientists (includingProfessor Dulaney) and is forcing themrecreate the experiment that created him atthe derelict lab. (Driven by feelings ofloneliness, alienation and thirst for power,Carter hopes to create an army of mutants justlike him.) There are several pens with normalpeople that Chrome has kidnapped for use astest subjects. Patrolling the inside of thefacility are two mutated humans that aresimilar to Chrome.

● Cobra Chrome has been selling his highlytoxic venom to criminals in the heroes’ city.The PCs learn of this when they’re called in toinvestigate several mob hits in the town thatwere pulled off using poison darts. The victims(and several innocent bystanders who werecaught in the crossfire) are comatose and neardeath but the police do have a suspect incustody. (To raise the stakes, one of theafflicted bystanders could be a friend or lovedone of the heroes.) Under questioning, thesuspect will reveal that he used a blow dartgun with darts tipped in Cobra Chrome’spoison. The victims are doomed unless anantivenom can be synthesized. That willrequire capturing Cobra Chrome and extractinga venom sample. The hit-man is very eager tocut a deal and tell the PCs where CobraChrome's base of operations is...

When confronted, Sa'var has identified itself as“the Fourth Adjunct of the Kariakos Legacy.”Whether this is a military or religious titleremains unclear. On two occasions, Sa'var hascompleted enough technological morphing ofexisting facilities to open small warpgates,which disgorged robotic allies from some otherplace. Fortunately, in each case the localpower grid was unable to sustain a warpgateof larger capacity.

Adventure HookThunderclap, a powerful hero with a suite oflightning abilities, has been captured bySa'var! The dastardly construct has made across-country run and is headed toward theOswald Nuclear Power Facility, where itintends to use Thunderclap as a livingcapacitor in order to power its bizarre alientechnology, using the entire output of thenuclear plant at once - causing a region-widecataclysm as well as unleashing the terrors ofhis warpgates! He also is surrounded by many cultistswith more mundane weaponry, who aredelighted to become martyrs in the eyes oftheir Fire God.

Tariq fears being immersed in water, as itdoes not exist in the City of Brass. The Tyranthas also shown an occasional weakness for theattention of beautiful women.

Adventure HookThe heroes are alerted when cultists assaultthe Museum of Art with both rifles and minormagicks. After defeating the cult, theydiscover the attack was merely a distraction,as Tariq the Tyrant took the opportunity toraid the Falstaff Gallery of Antiquities acrossthe street. He made away with a torc takenfrom a Viking tomb, imbued with the power ofSurtr, the Norse giant “whose flames willengulf the Earth,” per the Edda — an ancientviking poem that prophesies the end of theworld.. The terrible Tyrant intends to use theBlazing Torc at the top of a nearby mountain —a dormant volcano — in a ritual that willreawaken the magma, destroy the city belowand gift him with even stronger stolen flamepowers.

Backstory: Very little is known about thesupervillain known simply as the Shadow Countbefore his appearance in a giant flyingmachine over the skies of London in 1851intent on killing Queen Victoria as she openedthe Great Exhibition.

It was rumored that he is the son of Prussianaristocracy and associated with Otto VonBismark but there is no clue as to whatinspired his hatred of the United Kingdom.

More is known of the dastardly deeds over theyears:

• During his first attack in 1851, he bombedseveral locations in London before his machinewas taken down by a barrage of artillery. Hemanaged to escape London alive.

• His second attack utilized a giant burrowingmachine that dug through the foundations ofthe Houses of Parliament. He was driven offmy London Police before he could assassinatethe assembled Members of Parliament.

• In 1868, in an advanced submarine, heattacked the Chatham Dockyard and severelydamaged the battleship HMS Monarch beforebeing driven off by the Victorian Era robotichero Ironclad.

Subsequent attacks were less elaborate. By thetime of Queen Victoria’s death in 1901, it wasassumed that the Count too had died; hisdreams of conquest unfulfilled.

If not for the Count’s occult interests that isexactly what would have happened.

However, as time crept up upon him hedevoted more time to studies of the mysticsarts and to researching the possibleconfluence of sorcery with technology.Unfortunately, as his rune inscribed roboticbody was about to be completed, he passed on— leaving only his henchmen to complete thejob.

For over a century, the Count’s minions (ledby the diabolical and preternaturally long-lived Scottish mystic Rufus Learmont) workedon the means for restoring their master to lifeand eventually succeeded. They retrieved theCount’s head from his burial site in Bavariaand placed it within a tank of psionicenhancing fluid in the chest cavity of therobotic frame. The residual personality andpsychic energy lingering in the skullempowered the robotic body and brought theShadow Count back to the living — ready tobedevil the world again

The Count’s current escapades almost alwaysinvolve large technological machines and somekind of mystical enhancement.

The Count seeks two things in the modernworld:

• Firstly, the technology to transfer hisconsciousness to a human body so he can feeltruly human again. He raids biotech companiesand kidnaps handfuls of scientists in the hopeof achieving this aim.

• Secondly: Global domination. His devotion tothe destruction of England and its Allies in theVictorian Era was only because Great Britainwas the dominant world power. He saw thePax Britannica as a sad farce. He knew thatonly an elevated intellect such as his wassuited to rule the world with a just andenlightened hand.

From a hidden fortress in the Alps, attended toby his minions and automatons, the ShadowCount plots how to rain destruction upon hisold enemy and achieve his global utopia.

Adventure hookA massive bronze flying machine the size of anaircraft carrier drops through the clouds abovethe heroes’ city. It disgorges squadrons ofplanes that bomb key sites (police andemergency services, City Hall, prisons etc).Other planes land and their crews loot banksand kidnap scientists from biotechnologyfirms. When the PCs investigate, they find theflying machine and its planes are crewed bymystically empowered bronze automatons (useRobots, Icons Assembled, Pg. 191) If theheroes become too much of an obstacle to hisplans (or they board the carrier) they’ll facethe wrath of the Shadow Count himself...
