An example of using this selection guide
Selecting the measuring principle
Define all the primary requirements for your measuring point: fluid type, nominal diameter, accuracy, pressure, temperature, etc.
In the table on Page 4, select the category for the type of fluid in question: Liquid – Gas – Steam – Special applications.
In the table, specify all the requirements (see Point ) you defined for your measuring point.
Now select the measuring principles to which all the requirements apply (•).
Selecting the flowmeter
Now open out this brochure completely. The overview contains all the measuring principles you selected under Point and the corresponding Endress+Hauser flowmeters.
Now mark the sensors that can be installed in the pipe of your choice (DN = 1600 mm).
Mark those transmitters that can be combined with the sensors in question and that meet the required accuracy specifications (<0.3% o.r.)
You have found the two flowmeters that suit your measuring point.

Selection table “Measuring principles”
Please note:The selection table above provides a rough overview and is used for quick clarification of suitable measuring principles. The table is not exhaustive. If further information has to be clarified, feel free to contact Endress+Hauser any time. We’ll be glad to be of assistance.

Project documentation – data collection, archival, exportThe use of additional expansion mod-ules permits cost-saving administration and documentation of data for entire plant projects:• Clear presentation in a tree structure
of any desired number of metering points (e.g. by building, floor, meter-ing point), according to ISA 88.
• Uncomplicated inclusion of measur-ing devices directly from the Selection and Sizing functions. Also possible for instruments from other manufactur-ers or projects.
• Detailed listing of project manage-ment data (responsible person, cost-ing and budget data, etc.)
• Multiple data exchange possibilities in Excel or XML format: data export to other programs, data import from other projects, etc.
Applicator® • Optimal planning and
sizing of flowmeters• Administration and
documentation for entire plant projects
FieldCare® • Easy and dependable commissioning and
configuring of measuring devices via PC• Complete documentation of device settings• Storing device data (upload/download)• Simplified trouble-shooting
• Process-optimization through the visualization of measurement data in realtime (line plotting function)
• Analysis of diagnostic data for maintenance purposes• Administration and analysis of verification results
from the “Fieldcheck” test instrument
Fieldcheck® • Simulation and
testing of alarm/process conditions directly in the plant (without flow)
• Verification of flow-meters directly in the piping (without removal)
W@M W@M – Life cycle manage-ment from Endress+Hauser is an open information system which provides technical and opera-tive management with complete
data flow and archival – from commissioning on through to maintenance and service within a plant, at any time or location. This is attained within an open
system based on Internet/intranet technology, and incorporating all software programs, products and services from Endress+Hauser.
Applicator ® – Optimal planning and sizingThe first steps are always the most important when it comes to planning metering points. An optimally dimensioned flowmeter at the right location provides many advantages: • Consistent process quality• Diminished risk of instrument failure at a later time• Product savings due to error-free, precise measurement
Proven since more than 20 yearsApplicator is a software for selecting and specifing flowme-ters that has proven its abilities over many years. A wealth of industry experience and specialized know-how is embedded in Applicator. It enables people with limited technical knowledge to specify metering points quickly and easily, without time- consuming research.
The most recent version of Applicator has a raft of new func-tions, including selection functions for all the other areas cov-ered by Endress+Hauser – namely level, pressure, temperature, liquid analysis, etc. You’ll find that it opens up an enormous range of application possibilities in metrology and control.
Selection – straight to your objectiveWhen starting out to select the ideal flowmeter, Appli-cator guides through all the important parameters. Just enter the type of fluid, requisite process data or meter-ing point attributes and Applicator already displays the measuring principles and families of meters best suited to the case in hand.
Sizing – safe specificationBy entering further application-specific values, such as process pressure, process temperature or measuring range, Applicator immediately determines the ideal flowmeter type – and along with the suitable nomi-nal diameter, working range, pressure loss, accuracy, material loads, conformity with the Pressure Equipment Directives (PED) or corrosion resistance. Messages and warnings make it easy to select the right meter, help avoid common mistakes, and enable optimization of the measuring point to suit specific requirements.
