There are two IPD assessment processes:- Electronic skills development portfolio
– practical assessment process- Electronic open assessment exam
– theory-based assessment process
What is IPD?Initial Professional Development (IPD) is an assessment process that graduate members follow in order to become a Chartered member.

⁃ Evidence-based assessment process⁃ Produced online via MyIOSH – MyIPD⁃ Choose seven criteria from
the five elements⁃ Upload evidence of work
completed electronically⁃ Evidence can be no older
than two years⁃ It takes two to three weeks
for a criterion to be assessed
The exam runs nine times a year
⁃ It is open for 14 days
⁃ You have seven days to complete it
Two parts to the exam:
⁃ Part A – 48 multiple-choice questions –three hours
⁃ Part B – two scenario-based questions, 700 words per question – seven days
The exam results:
⁃ Part A – instant
⁃ Part B – 21 days

⁃ Why do we need to audit your CPD?
Please ensure the following:
⁃ Your development plan is being reviewed and updated every six months
⁃ Activities are added on a regular basis – at least six activities a year
⁃ Each activity added has clear reflective statements

⁃ Scheduled at various locations ⁃ Video conference option
for members outside the UK⁃ £80 fee for PRI at The Grange
£95 fee for external venue⁃ PowerPoint presentation
– 10 minutes.

PRI hints and tips
⁃ Provide a presentation
⁃ Familiarise yourself with your IPD assessment
⁃ Ensure you know the four keys areas of the IOSH Code of conduct
⁃ Be aware of the importance of your CPD
⁃ Remember this is your interview: use “I”, not “we”
⁃ Core questions are not available before the interview
⁃ No notes are permitted during the interview
The Peer Review Interview
Interview day
⁃ Arrive early – at least 20 minutes before start time
⁃ Interview by a panel of CMIOSH/CFIOSH volunteers
⁃ Interview lasts 45–60 minutes
⁃ Outcome within 21 days
⁃ If successful, transfer to CMIOSH
⁃ If unsuccessful, feedback is provided and re-interview MAY be required

⁃ It takes two years to complete the assessment process (does not include CPD audit or PRI)
