MANAGEMENT
prsm.com I JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2016 I 9
IN THE LAST issue, I announced that the PRSM Board of Directors had adopted a policy governance model to position PRSM for the future and to modernize the Board’s role and responsibilities. The new governance change also requires the Board to take on more responsibilities in the nominations and electoral process of future Board leaders.
Electing future industry leaders is one of the Board’s most important responsibilities, and they are taking a more direct approach to ensure future Board members will follow their lead and take ownership of the new governance process. This change begins with the nominations, elec-tion and orientation of future Board members.
To do so, the Board has revised the Nominating Committee’s purpose and restruc-tured the committee’s composition to include current Board members. With the number of Board seats being reduced from 15 to 11 by 2018, it is imperative the Board select FM indus-try leaders who have the business and strategic industry insights to challenge the status quo and to partner with the PRSM staff to ensure PRSM remains a dynamic, thriving organization.
Fortunately, the PRSM membership includes many qualified candidates for both the retail and supplier Board positions. The PRSM mem-bership will continue to elect qualified Board members every year after the Nominating Committee finishes it work. Rather than wait for PRSM members to step forward, the Board-directed Nominating Committee has actively recruited Board candidates throughout the nominations period.
The nominations process began November 16, 2015 and concluded December 31, 2015.
Following the nomination period, nominees will go through a prescribed process with new Board members being seated in April.
The long term success of PRSM is driven by the Board’s vision. The Board relies upon input from all PRSM members. I encourage you to do your part, and get involved in PRSM. Serve on committees, attend conferences and network-ing events, and, perhaps most importantly, com-municate with the Board and provide feedback on PRSM activities.
With the changes in the governance of PRSM, there are several committees that will be direct responsibilities of the Board of Directors. Those include Governance, Audit/Investment (formerly Finance), Member Advisory, Executive Compensation, and Ethics in addition to the Nominating Committee. These committees are specifically involved in the gov-ernance and leadership of the association so they are accountable to the Board for their work and deliverables. Should you be interested in serving on these committees, please express your interest to me at [email protected]. We’d appreciate knowing more about you and your experience in these areas before appoint-ments are made this April. There are also oppor-tunities to volunteer for other PRSM Operating & Program Committees so visit prsm.com to express your interest in those committees
The future of PRSM is in our hands – and as I’ve said many times before: The more you put in to PRSM, the more you will get out of it. The volunteer spirit is what has made PRSM the premier association serving facilities manage-ment professionals, and is what will propel it into a truly exciting future. l
