■ Healthcare providers will be the first to reactagainst the privacy regulations issued recently by theUS Department of Health and Human Services (HHS),predicts attorney Jim Pyles in the US. Provider groupsthat endorsed the medical privacy rule authorised bythe Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Actof 1996, such as the American Medical Association,the American Hospital Association and the Federationof American Hospitals, will regret doing so as theyencounter numerous and increasing demands forpatient information from insurers and others, says MrPyles.
