The Tahirih Justice Center is a national, non-profit organization that protects courageous immigrant women and girls who refuse to be victims of violence. We elevate their voices in communities, courts, and Congress to create a world where women and girls enjoy equality and live in safety and with dignity.

Who We Are


The Need

1 of 3 women globally are victims of abuse. Every year:

• 82 million girls forced into marriage

• 30 million are genitally mutilated

• Between 600,000-800,000 are forced into modern-day slavery

• Between 5,000-20,000 are murdered for “dishonoring” their families


Legal representation

• U.S. legal system is complex and foreign

• Immigrant women and girls have unique vulnerabilities

• 6 times more likely to succeed with an attorney

The Need


Since 1997, Tahirih has

assisted nearly

17,000 women and

girls.


Last year alone, our Houston directly assisted more than 300 women and girls through legal representation. Including their dependents, we helped over 700 individuals find protection.


We are still only able to help 1 out of 4 who call us for assistance
