The re are many costs directly and indirectly associated  with i t; the most valuable being human lives. The most common motives or arson include vandalism, excitement, revenge, crime-concealment, proft, and extremism. The FBI reported that a total o 43,412 arsons reported in 2010 2 . Structural arson was the most requently reported arson c ategory in 2010, accounting or almost hal (45.5%) o all arsons. These incidents resulted in monetary loss o $197 million  with 385 persons injured and 157 killed. The average dollar loss due to arson was $17, 512. • Industrial/manuacturing structures resulted in an average loss o $133,717 per arson. Arson had a higher percentage o juvenile involvement than any other oense tracked in the FBI's National Crime Index. The International Association of Arson Investigators, Inc.
