• allowthefraudstersremoteaccesstothecomputertologontotheir InternetBanking

How it works:Bogustradesmenpromotegoodsorservicesthatareneverdeliveredtoyouorareofaverypoorquality.Theycanoftenconvincevictimstheyneedworkdoingthatisn’tneededormaybillthemforworkthattheydidn’tagreeto.
Advance fees The scam: Advancefeescamsarewhenfraudsterstargetvictimstomakeadvanceorupfrontpaymentsforgoods,servicesand/orfinancialgainsthatdonotmaterialise.
How it works:Thevictimappliesforaloanandisadvisedtheymustpaya‘fee’inadvanceoftheloanmoneybeingsentorthevictimisadvisedtheyhavewonthelotteryoraprizebutmustpaya‘fee’inadvanceofreceivingthis.Thevictimeithersendsmoneydirecttothefraudster’saccountorisadvisedtopurchase‘giftcards’andcontactthefraudsterwiththecodenumbers.Inallinstancesthevictimneverreceivestheirmoneyorprize.

How it works:Thefraudster,posingasthehousebuyer’ssolicitor,sendsanemailtothehousebuyernotifyingthemtheirbankaccountdetailshavechanged.Thehousebuyerssendstheirmoneytothenewbankaccountwhichhasbeensetupbythefraudster,ratherthantheirsolicitor’sgenuinebankaccount.
Fake websitesThe scam: Fraudsterssetupfakewebsitesoradvertsofferingholidaysorothergoodsforsaleatanincrediblycheaprate.
How it works:Thevictimviewsthewebsiteoradvert,whichhaspicturesoftheholidayaccommodationorgoodsthatdon’tactuallyexist.Thevictimcommunicateswithfraudstersandpurchasestheholiday/goods.Theyarerequestedtosendthemoneybybanktransfer,MoneywiseorWesternUnionratherthanpayingbydebit/creditcardorPayPal.
