Research ProgrammesResearch programmes are based totally on research. The academic progress of a research student is evaluated every semester through progress reports. The degree is examined through the presentation of a thesis and a viva voce examination. A student who has satisfied the Examination Committee for Graduate Studies in all aspects of their work is eligible for the award of the corresponding degree.
Coursework ProgrammesCoursework programmes are also offered at Master’s level. The Master’s degree by coursework programme is designed to extend the knowledge and skills gained from the first degree and to develop new professional skills in the students. The programme involves lectures, seminars and project work. A minimum of 40 credits of study and a final Cumulative Point Average (CPA) of at least 3.0 is required for the award of the Master’s degree.
The minimum 40 credits of study comprises a combination of compulsory subjects, electives and a Master’s project. Each subject carries 2 to 3 credits, and assessments are made through assignments, tests, master’s project and final examinations. The Master’s project is assessed through an oral presentation and a written report.

Through this subject, students are expected to work on various disciplines of education knowledge and translate them into their teaching. The ability of students to produce a quality and practical teaching plan and implement it effectively is emphasized in this subject. As a summary, this subject will enable the students to experience the real situation of the implementation of teaching and learning.
7. MBE 2253: The Development
of Curriculum in Technical and Vocational Education
Synopsis: This subject exposes students to
curriculum development process in the technical and vocational context. The discussion includes the basics of curriculum development which are philosophy, history, psychology and sociology. It is also focused on the aspects of design, model, legislation strategy and its implementation. The aspects of Task Analysis, DACUM conference, Delphi Techniques, Performance-Based Instruction Design System (PBID) and Integrated System for Workforce Curricula (ISCEW)
are focused specifically. The comparisons of curriculum in technical and vocational education program in a few places are also examined.
8. MBE 1214: The Method and Research Development in Technical and Vocational Education
Synopsis: This course will provide a
preliminary exposure to future educators on a few important aspects of research work and identify problems related to technical and vocational education. Through this course, students are guided on how to plan a research, collect data, analyse data and conclude research finding. Students will write about the research finding which includes introduction, literature review, research methodology, data analysis and conclusion (Chapter 1 to 5). Students will also expose to the information dissemination techniques through publication of paper work in journal, article and original work. Ways to commercialize the research finding, intellective property trademark, copyrights, patent and MoU with outside parties will be discussed too.

TECHNICAL EDUCATION (INDUSTRIAL ELECTRONICS)
12. MDE 1232: Industrial Electronic Application
Synopsis: This subject is about the exposure
to the various kinds of industrial control device including their working principle. The subject is organized in practical. The outline of the lab is as follows: Introduction to workshop assignment, circuit and electronic component. Function, and connection of oscilloscope, signal generator, power supply and multi-meter, understand the electronic component, the symbol, the application circuit and the distribution of the component, circuit design (Mini Project) on proto-board and at the end testing and do several measurement. The experiment modules are designed to give students the opportunity to construct circuits and verify theoretical relationships involving diodes, bipolar transistors, timer, sensor, transducer and some electronic control circuit such as motor driver, dc motor and servo control. The students are expected to observe the experimental results with theoretical concepts, speculate reasons for discrepancies, and learn from deductive reasoning. For assessment, the students are evaluated on short report written.
13. MBE 2004: Teaching Practicum
Synopsis: To understand the existence of a
gap between theory and practice. To appreciate the diversities and uniqueness of students. Knowing the different needs of students. To be sensitive on the social structure and effective human relationship in an organization. To experience the responsibility of an educator as the generator of human capital development in human civilization.
14. MBE 2506: Industrial Project
Synopsis: To learn through real experience
is the best way of gaining knowledge or skills. Students will see and experience the difference of the daily characteristics in university compared to the daily characteristics in industry. They will show the adroitness of knowledge and skills. They also exhibit the emotional and mental endurance towards the new and challenging work pressure. Students are also exposed to the functions of human relation generic skills in industry. Lastly, students are evaluated by the level of their ability to prepare academic/technical report which will be used as an important indicator to show their achievement in this program.
