/esearch is an academic institution&s most lasting contribution to society. /esearchactivities are normally composed of two main aspects - the production of theoreticalknowledge and an integral e9periential encounter with sub;ects constituting the society.!ndeed the body of published material built up by hundreds of researcher(writers andcreation of a massive data base from which to retrieve information regularly and which isconstantly augmented corrected and revised is a natural corollary of research activities.,his body of published material and the data base constitute the research canon that is

central to the functioning of a reputed academic institution like !"N#$ and that forms amaterial e9pression of its scholarship.!n about twenty eight years since its inception !"N#$&s /esearch rogramme has shiftedgear from the initial focus on distance education and its methodologies and practices tovital contributions to both theoretical and empirical research in various academicdisciplines and interdisciplinary areas. ,his shift has been smooth without any ma;orimpediment and has yielded the desired ob;ective of the creation of a viable Bresearchcanon&. ,he core of our research endeavour is harnessed to the creation and continuale9pansion of this research canon.

As outlined in the /esearch olicy studying the philosophy of research and training intoresearch methods are important ingredients. 'odern research methods have impacted thestructures of society and relations of power. ,hey have also remained pervasive in culturalrelations throughout the world. ,he research programmes of the $niversity shouldtherefore draw upon a variety of theoretical positions and their associated strategies andtechni?ues. 'oreover the researchers should also seek to develop ade?uate andappropriate approaches to sub;ects that are diverse hybrid and diasporic. !t is felt that theresearch programmes of the $niversity function in an atmosphere of intellectual e9changeand cultural negotiation. Jeeping this in mind the !"N#$ /esearchers %orum has beenformed to provide a platform for interaction among the researchers and to ensure that theessence of the /esearch olicy is reali=ed. ,he %orum meets on a regular basis and

encourages research scholars to make their presentations and participate in thediscussions and debates. ,he %orum is open for participation to all teachers staff andstudents.

'inor change in the topic of hD thesis can be made within 1 *earsof provisionalregistration for hD. ,his minor change in the topic will have to be approved byDoctoral 6ommittee chool Goard and thereafter placed before /66/6 forapproval. No minor change of topic will be permitted after 1K years of provisionalregistration.

. !n case there is a ma;or change of topic as decided by the Doctoral 6ommittee thestudent will have to go through the process of fresh reg$s&ra&$o".

). ,here will be a Doc&ora' Comm$&&eefor each Discipline that will manage all aspectsof research program pertaining to the Discipline.

5. Doctoral 6ommittee will perform the following functions

*. ,he courses will be designed and developed as per the 'a$# #o-" roce#resofthe $niversity and the details along with the evaluation methodology will be providedby the /esearch rogramme 6oordinator. ,he schedule of the course work decidedby the Doctoral 6ommittee will be announced by the /esearch rogramme6oordinator.

4. Recor#s related to admission registration payment of fees and other learnerrecords will be maintained by the Research U"$&. ,he relevant information on thepayment of fee by the research student will be regularly communicated by the/esearch $nit to the respective Disciplines enabling them to keep an update on thestatus of the research student.

10. All research upervisors approved by !"N#$ in accordance with the #rdinance on/esearch Degree rogrammes can guide research students.

11. ,he progress of the research student shall be monitored by the supervisor7s8.Ho-eer, ge"era&$"g &he s$5 mo"&h'* rogress reor&s o" &he rescr$e#forma& -$'' e &he reso"s$$'$&* of &he research se"&. Ce shall submitherhis progress report to the upervisor. !n case of unsatisfactory progress over atime period of one year andor non(submission of timely reportfee the $niversity

reserves the right to cancel the registration under 6lause 3.) of the #rdinance.12. @ach research student will give at least two seminars r$orto the pre(submission

seminar before the Doctoral 6ommittee.

13. ,he ma5$mmduration after registration for the hD rogram shall be f$e *ears.,he ma9imum duration can be e9tended by a ma9imum of one year with thepermission of the :ice 6hancellor. ,he re?uest for e9tension shall have to be movedby the research student through upervisor and the Doctoral 6ommittee. !n suchcases a prescribed fee will have to be paid by the student for the period ofe9tension.

Ehen the research student is nearing the completion of his hD work are.sm$ss$o" sem$"ar, open to all will be organi=ed by the upervisor. ,hereport of the seminar and suggestions for improvement if any will be sent by theupervisor through the Director of the chool to the /esearch $nit for records. ,heupervisor will ensure that constructive suggestions made in the pre(submissionseminar to improve the ?uality of research are incorporated in the thesis.

1. At least one research paper should be publishedaccepted for publication in a peerreviewedrefereed ournal 7online or print8 eforethe submission of thesis.

1). ,he research student shall submit a copy in electronic form on a 6D and four hardcopies of the summary of the thesis 73000(000 words8 to the /esearch $nit duly

approved by the upervisor7s8 at least days before the submission of thesis.15. %our hard bound copies of the thesis along with one in the electronic form on a 6D

shall be submitted to the /esearch $nit through the Director concerned. ,he thesisshall $"c'#e a cer&$f$ca&e in the prescribed format signed by the upervisor7s8about the originality of the work.

1*. ,he thesis shall be e9amined by three e9ternal e9perts nominated by the:ice 6hancellor from a list of e9perts submitted by the upervisor7s8 and approvedby the chool Goard concerned. ,he report of the evaluation will be given on aprescribed format.

14. !n case an e9aminer suggests certain modifications or re(submission of the thesisthe same should be communicated to the candidate who will be asked to resubmitthe thesis with all the modifications within si9 months. ,he research upervisor7s8 willensure that the suggestions of the e9aminer are ade?uately addressed beforeresubmission of the thesis. ,he modified thesis shall be referred again to thee9aminer concerned for re(evaluation.

20. !f one of the e9aminers does not recommend the thesis for the award of a hDdegree the thesis shall be referred to another e9aminer for independent evaluation.!f the fourth e9aminer recommends the thesis for the award the viva(vocee9amination shall be organi=ed by the Director of the chool as prescribed at
