EMPOWERING EDUCATION THROUGH SPORT
Year 11 and 12
Senior Secondary Education
Prospectus
PROSPECTUS
WELCOME TO SEDA
The SEDA model places student
interest at the forefront of their
senior secondary education,
alongside a practical connection
to industry and an individual
approach to teaching and learning.
SEDA accesses leading industry
partnerships including Cricket
Australia, the Western Australian
Cricket Association, Perth Scorchers,
Netball WA, West Coast Fever,
Basketball WA, Perth Glory, Football
West, Fremantle Dockers, and West
Coast Eagles.
The SEDA Group model has
demonstrated success in engaging,
educating, and empowering young
people in Western Australia
since 2013.
What makes for an engaging
education? For us, the key component
is interest-based learning. Young
people and their families choose
SEDA because we connect with
their interests and then get students
outside of the classroom to learn
directly from industry.
Our individual learning approach
incorporates a "one teacher, one
classroom" model. Allowing our
teachers to take on a true mentoring
approach, where they walk alongside
and support the individual journey of
our students as they complete their
secondary education.
Our teachers work with each
student to develop their confidence
as learners. They are specifically
recruited for their capacity to build
healthy and respectful relationships
with students, helping them to
develop skills for life.
SEDA delivers the Western Australian
Certificate of Education (WACE)
using an applied learning model
where hands-on learning happens
both inside and outside of the
classroom. Through this applied
learning model, students have
a deeper connection to their
education, resulting in enhanced
engagement levels. Students
also undertake work and industry
placements and community project
work to develop their work readiness
and community awareness.
Our vision is that students benefit
from being exposed to a range of
learning opportunities. Each student
is supported to develop a career plan
that is specific to their aspirations
and goals. Whilst ensuring that it
links directly to the learning activities
they undertake and their chosen
career pathway.

Our teachers, while being
experienced educators, also have
a broad range of professional
skills and excellent theoretical
and practical grounding. They have
industry experience, which will
vary from teacher to teacher.
All staff are invested in unlocking
each student’s potential as they
guide them on a pathway to success.
Our teachers develop a professional
relationship with their students,
giving them the skills and guidance
required to realise their full potential.
Our staff also work in close
collaboration with industry experts
from our partner organisations,
delivering hands-on learning and
creating meaningful workplace
connections.
Student Connect
At SEDA, we understand the
significance of wellbeing for student
achievement. The "one teacher,
one classroom" model we use allows
our teachers to develop positive
relationships with each student and
support their individual journeys.
They act as mentors, supporting
both learning and wellbeing
throughout the program. If concerns
become more significant, each
teacher will collaborate with the
Program Coordinator and/or
Student Connect staff to provide
the best care possible.
Student Connect provides
professional wellbeing assistance in
collaboration with the teaching team
and parents/carers. We find open
and regular communication makes a
difference to a student’s experience
while they are at school. We
encourage regular contact between
SEDA staff, students and parents/
carers; and where appropriate,
external support providers. This is
critical to ensure each student’s
individual needs are met.
Our aim is to develop each student’s
capacity to access support services
in their local area that are age
appropriate and best placed to assist.
Student Connect also promotes
student wellbeing by developing
awareness, raising activities relevant
to the needs of our students.
MySEDA
MySEDA is the Learning
Management System (LMS) that
students, parents, teachers and
staff use as their central hub for
communication, teaching and
learning. MySEDA supports parents
and guardians to stay connected

assessment, grades, reports,
industry experiences and important
notifications. It is available online
and as a smartphone app.

SEDA
The SEDA program takes the
traditional WACE and VET
curriculum and contextualizes
it to create maximum student
engagement.
Becoming the Coach
Great coaches are hard to find.
In this area of study, students
are introduced to the roles and
responsibilities of an entry level
coach. Students explore and
compare good and poor coaching
practices and are given the
opportunity to apply these skills
with real life participants. Coaching
practices are reviewed, and student
skills refined so that they are ready
to conduct participation clinics
representing their sporting partner.
The Community
Development Officer
You will have the opportunity
to develop the skills necessary for
turning your passion for coaching
into a successful career. In addition,
you have the opportunity to network
with SEDA’s sporting partners and
leaders in the industry to learn
coaching principles and develop
coaching sessions.
You get to hone your skills in a
real-world environment in a junior
development capacity. You will also
have the opportunity to develop
your planning and collaboration
skills and learn how to communicate
proficiently with both large and
small groups.
The Athlete
In The Athlete, students will gain
an understanding of what it takes to
perfect skills. Students will learn how
to perform a skill analysis and design
and implement a development
program. Students will explore and
apply skill improvement tools and
feedback mechanisms and compare
skill abilities of varying levels of
athletes.
The Power of Sport
Sport is the universal language.
Take the time to explore how sport
can influence and shape the culture
within a community. Learn and
experience how sport can break
down all sorts of barriers and bring
people together. In this area of
study, students will connect with
sporting partners and industry
strategies to help build better
communities.
Game On
Participate in the SEDA Game On
season and develop your skills and
broaden your knowledge about
the game you love. In this area of
study, students put their skill and
conditioning into match practice,
as well as gain a broader
understanding of what it takes
to run a sporting competition.
Participate in Game On, show
off your skills and explore other
aspects of the game such as sports
psychology, officiating, fixtures
and resulting.
AREAS OF STUDY
Student Learning
The SEDA program is planned and developed
with industry experts, and deliberately connects
the learning experiences of our students to
the type of activities and projects that might
