The roots of the University of Lahore are embeddedin its Islamabad Campus. This campus was establishedin 1998 with the aim of attaining the status of aUniversity. After the establishment of the LahoreCampus (which now is the main Campus) and grantof charter as a University in 2002, the embryo ofestablishing a full fledged multi-disciplinary Universityhas come to fruitation.

In pursuit of excellence, the University developedits original core value at the Islamabad campus.

This campus has grown both in size and quality ofeducation. Served by the experienced and competentfaculty and supported by the requisite infrastructure, the students are getting good education at anaffordable cost. The University is committed to furtherincrease the size of the Campus and gradually add newdisciplines.

At the new and purpose built Campus, which is locatedin the scenic surroundings of Islamabad, studentsare provided congenial and professionally conduciveenvironment to pursue their educational goals. Theyare guided and helped by the professionally dedicatedfaculty through regular counseling sessions. At theCampus, recreational and sports facilities are providedto encourage students to organize and engage in

I extend my wmembers of thcampus.

I have watched with deep interest the progress of theUniversity of Lahore, since its inception in the year1999. From a recent review of various departmentsof the Unviersity, I am encouraged to see that thequality of education has been sustained by our youngad experienced faculty. In the changing scenario ofinstructional technology, the constructivist theroy oflearning has become the mainstay of the teaching-learning process. Contrary to this, for a large numberof years the studetns have been treated as passivelearners. The integration of tools of technology witheducation has created a different circumstance inwhich the learner is an active par ticipant and is thusable to use his creative abilities for problem solving. Iam pleased to know that on a fully networked capmus, the teachers are making best use of this learningmethodology. I believe that if this practice is sustained, then, the University will be able to add substatial valueto the training of studetns in a ccordance with marketneeds.

The university is now craving its path in economicallyimportant areas of research, especially in the field ofMolecular Biology and Biotechnology. The initiationof Post-Doc programme in this subject is likely to playan important role in the develeopment of specialisedhuman resource in a prospective economic field.

Prof. Dr. M. H. QaziVice Chancellor

Whereas our teachers are fully involved in the trainingof studetns, yet I find a lot of room for furtherimporvement in student-teacher interaction insideand outside the classroom. In a Unviersity wherecultural advancement is of utmost importanance, it isimperative that sufficient space should be providedfor extra curricular activities. This aspect shouldbe strengthened by encourageing the studentsfor establishing academic societies. I already seea lot of telent among the studetns which can behardnessed for such activities. Furthermore, I hopethat as we grow, a more intense relationaship can bedvelepoed between the University and the industry. This is necessary for translation of knowledge intotechnoolgy.

I see a bright future for the University, and wish theUnviersity great success in the times to come.

THE UNIVERSITY IS NOW CRAVING ITSPATH IN ECONOMICALLY IMPORTANTAREAS OF RESEARCH.
