he desire of

each human

being on earth

is to achieve all

h i s o r h e r Tdreams and live a very

prosperous, fruitful and

happy life. It is our desire as

humans to record successes in

all areas of our lives.

It is this desire for success,

which is the driving force

behind the explosion of

knowledge and the expansion

in technology in today's

world. It is the desire for

success that has made it

possible for us to see different

models of cars, telephones,

types of designs of shoes,

clothes, houses etc.

It is established, that the

differences in abilities of

individuals can lead to

enormous differences in

results. The more skills you

acquire, the more knowledge

you have will to a large extent,

and this will invariably

determine your degree or

level of success in life.

In o ther words , smal l

differences in your own

personal knowledge and

skills can lead to major

differences in your income

and achievements, when

compared to someone else

with less knowledge and

skills.

However, to be successful in

life is principally dependent,

not just on the knowledge and

skills that you acquire and/or

develop, but on how much of

the knowledge and skills you

have about what you do and

how often you apply these

principles of success that you

have.

It is common to see high

educated people living in

poverty ,its common in our

society to see lawyers,

doctors in various fields and

professionals as well as well

educated persons living zero

goal lives, in frustration,

misery and poverty.

We can i l l u s t r a t e t he

principles and rules for a

happy and successful life to

telephone numbers in that, if

you dial the right number, you

will get through to the desired

party but even if you are very

brilliant, well educated,

sincere and determined, but

continuously dial the wrong

telephone number, you will

never get through to the

desired party.

Some persons have tried

d i a l i n g t h e t e l e p h o n e

numbers of success in career,

business, parenting, marriage

and even worshiping and

developing a strong and

flourishing relationship with

Almighty God and Jesus

Christ using the wrong

telephone numbers and have

ended up in frustration.

In life, there is a principle

called the 10/90 Rule. This

rule says that the first 10

percent of time to be able to

succeed in life should be

invested in finding out the

underlying laws, principles,

rules ,methods and techniques

of successful acts in any field

.The essence is that you will

save 90 percent of the time

and effort required to achieve

your goals in that area.

This is the law of preparation.

You have to prepare properly

to be able to withstand and

overcome the challenges of

life. Persons who fail in life

are usually those who do not

prepare properly. People who

succeed in life are usually

those who take the time to

find out the rules of success in

any area of life's endeavor

before they attempt to get

results in that area.

If you have a craving for

trading, you do not just open a

shop along any road in a town

and put just any item for sale.

You are likely to fail. You

have to do a market survey to

determine what exactly you

should sell, the source of

supply, the cost of supply, the

demand level of the product,

the ability and willingness of

people to pay for the items etc.

If you wish to sell Petrol and

diesel and decide to open a

Petrol station at a wrong

location, you are not likely to

make adequate sales to keep

the business going.

If you wish to publish a

magazine, you must know

about magazine production,

publication and distribution,

you must research properly to

be able to succeed. Ask

questions and start as if you

are old in the business.

The smartest people are those

who take the time to find out

the rules of success in any

area of interest, before they

attempt to get results in that

area. They do their home

work.

One of the greatest problems

to success is how you picture

of yourself. It is said that we

think in pictures and the

picture that we carry of

ourselves and of our abilities,

will determine our level of

success in all aspects of our

life. The picture that we have

about ourselves will manifest

in real life situations that we

face and how we tackle

challenges.

Someone gave an illustration

that I enjoyed as follows; if

someone tells you that he saw

a man laughing , your

thoughts will immediately

produce a picture of a man

laughing, notice that if the

person telling you that story,

says, that the man's trousers

fell off his waist, your

thoughts will immediately

change to a picture of a man

with his trousers falling off

his waist.

You will notice that your

thoughts would automatically

produce a different picture

d e p e n d i n g o n t h e

circumstance.

In other words, it is the picture

of your abilities, motivations

and capabilities, produced by

your thoughts that determine

your abili ty to remain

f o c u s e d , h a p p y a n d

successful in life.

I t is possible to have

knowledge, skill and ability to

succeed but fail because of the

wrong mental picture as a

result of your thoughts.

Your success or failure in life-

Yo u r C h r i s t i a n l i f e ,

relationship with God, Jesus

Christ, fellow Christians,

relationships with other

people, your career, business

endeavours at all levels, are

dependent on your thoughts.

Your relat ionship with

yourself, whether to be sad,

reactive to every minor issue,

keeping and maintain strife in

your life, is all dependent on

your thoughts.

In the Bible book of Numbers

13, God asked that Moses

should sent 12 spies to spy out

the land of Canaan. God told

Moses to choose men who

w e r e l e a d e r s i n t h e i r

respective tribes.

At Numbers 13, verses 27-

28; the spies reported on their

return to Moses and people of

Israel, that the land of Canaan,

was truly flowing with milk

and honey and even showed

evidence of the fruit of the

land to the people .However,

while these men except

Joshua and Caleb agreed, that

God's promises were true and

available, their thoughts

limited their will to take

action to fulfi l l God's

promises for them. <

T A K E C H A R G E O F

... the picture that we carry

of ourselves and of our

abilities, will determine our

level of success in all aspects

of our life.

5elieve it or not, the mind follows an

operative technique which can be Blearned and controlled. Getting an idea

mostly consists in a new combination of old

elements.

Creative thinking skills are as much about

attitude and self-confidence as about talent.

Creativity is often less ordered, structured and

predictable. As you are not looking for 'one'

answer, you are likely to come up with lots of

suggestions that are not 'right'. This can be

difficult if you are more used to analytical and

logical approaches. It can also be experienced as

'risky' as the prospect of making a mistake or not

coming up with an answer is more likely.

STEP 1:

Gathering Information (or raw materials).

There are two types of information to gather

specific Information (Market information): related

to the product and people you're going to sell

(know your product and consumer).

Gather as much information as possible on these

areas of interest.

Write it down on 3×5 ruled white cards and classify

it by sections. One item per card.

General Information:

This is the stuff that comes from your everyday

life. It comes from things you already know about

topics related to the specific information you're

gathering.

STEP 2:

Working over these materials in your mind.

Take different pieces of information you gathered

and look them from different perspectives. Play the

role of customer or user to see things from another

person's viewpoint. Bring two facts together and

see how they mesh. You are looking for the

relationship between them. It might result in ideas

that seem silly or implausible but write them down.

They might be useful later in the process.

Don't stop even if you're tired. Try to go after, at

least, the second layer of mental energy until you

have, at least, an incomplete idea.

You'll reach the hopeless stage where everything in

your mind becomes a jumble. Time to move on to

the third step.

STEP 3:

Incubating stage.

Drop the whole subject and put the problem out of

your mind as completely as you can.

Stimulate the unconscious creative process and turn

to whatever stimulates your emotions (concerts,

movies, reading a book, internet).

STEP 4:

Eureka! I have it!

Out of nowhere the idea will appear.

Shaving, bathing, in the morning half awake, in the

middle of the night. You never know where or

when the idea will come, so be ready. Keep a

notebook handy so you can capture you brilliance

when it happens.

STEP 5:

Shaping and developing the idea.

When you take your idea into the world of reality

you'll see it's not as great as you thought in the

beginning. That's ok.

Submit it to criticism, share it with others and be

patient. It takes time to make ideas work.

Don't cling to your idea or be closed off to the

suggestions others.

Be open and let your idea evolve. Every

contribution and suggestion may point you in a

new and better direction.

Regardless of what you're trying to create, a new

business model, a blog post or marketing

campaign, this process will always lead you to new

and inspired ideas.

The first time you try using this process it might

feel awkward and uncomfortable. Particularly if

you consider yourself a non-creative person, don't

give up. Follow the steps, do the work and you'll be

rewarded when the ideas start flowing.

There's no great trick to being creative. Thanks to

our amazing brains we all have the capacity for

new ideas and innovation. Though this doesn't

come naturally to everyone, all of us can learn in

five easy steps.

Strong emotional self-management is often needed

in order to allow creative thinking states to emerge.

It is important to be able to cope with risk,

confusion, disorder and feeling that you are not

progressing quickly.

Combine analytical and creative thinking skills

Many important breakthroughs in science and

innovation have resulted from:

- Focusing on a subject in a logical, analytical way

for some time, thinking through possible solutions.

- Daydreaming or distracting the mind, but holding

the same problem lightly 'at the back of the mind'.

- The answer has often emerged on dreams or

daydreams when the innovator was not trying so

hard to find the answer. However, the daydream on

its own did not achieve anything. <

There is no limit to ways there

are of thinking creatively.

Strong emotional self-

management is often needed in

order to allow creative thinking

states to emerge.

Study Abroad

PROSPECTS - Magazine PROSPECTS - Magazine

o your child has decided to study abroad and there is so much to know. Studying Sabroad poses many questions for students,

but quite a few for parents as well. Don't worry. It's not as bad as it may seem. And to help you, here are a few tips to get you

Through this exciting, and sometimes overwhelming, time.

Educate Yourself:

Chances are you will feel more secure about your child studying abroad if you do the right research.

- Research the destination country, including its history, culture, customs, laws, social/moral codes, dress and language.

Letting Go:

Sending your child to study abroad involves a certain amount of letting go on your part. It can be difficult to do but to ease into it you should begin the process well before departure.

- Allow your child to make the most of the study abroad decisions -be a guide, not a supervisor.

-Talk with parents whose children have previously studied abroad and try to prepare for the emotions they say they experienced.

Packing:

Help your child with what to bring with him or her overseas. Pack light, but also wisely.

- Have your child walk around with packed bags to make sure he or she will be able to handle it once he or she leaves the house. Your child may be lugging that suitcase around for quite a while during his or her travels.

-If your child wears glasses, get him or her an extra pair or two to take with, particularly if they are prescription lenses.

Communication:

Keeping in touch with your child while he or she is studying overseas is important for both of you.

- Establish a plan of communication with your child prior to departure. It is important to realize

that this plan may need to be altered once your child has settled into a study abroad routine.

- Blogs are an inexpensive way in which to keep in touch. Encourage your child to start a blog while away so that you (and any other family members or friends) can follow along with the adventures. You may consider starting your own blog to keep your student current on what is going on back home.

Finances:

Teaching your child responsible ways to handle his or her finances is crucial and can begin even before departure.

- Have your child manage some money on his or her own before departing.

- Devise a financial plan with your child for the time he or she will be abroad.

Write down the expenses you expect your child to have and make a column for "needs" and a column for "wants."

Student Responsibility:

Helping your child to enhance his or her sense of responsibility can be beneficial to the child as he or she studies abroad and in general.

- Discuss financial, social, and academic responsibility with your child. Let him or her know that much of what is expected of him or her at home will be expected of him or her abroad and more.

- Encourage your child to resolve his or her own issues while abroad and step in only when necessary.

Food:

One of the most interesting differences between countries is the cuisine and you will want to make sure that your child eats well while overseas.

- Although they may be legally permitted to drink abroad, students should be advised to drink with great care while studying abroad. Alcohol can mix with trouble overseas the same way it can at home.

Safety:

This is the largest concern for most parents of students studying abroad. Study abroad tragedies are few and far between but educate your student on ways to stay safe in another country.

- Students must be encouraged to cultivate and utilize their "street smarts" while studying abroad. Advise them to take the precautions they take at home, as well as new ones. Tell them to avoid political demonstrations, to only take official taxis and to protect their passport at all times.

- Tell your child to avoid bringing locals back to his or her living quarters. Socializing can be done away from student housing.

Visitation:

You may want to visit your child while he or she is overseas. However, if you choose to do so, do it the right way.

- If you visit, choose to do so at a time that is convenient for your child. Do not try to visit the first or last week of the stay or during exams. Remember that while it may be a vacation for you, your child still has responsibilities.

Reentry:

Just as you must prepare your child for studying abroad and support him or her while he or she is away, you must also be sensitive to the possibility that your kids could experience "reverse culture-shock" when he or she returns home.

- Allow your child a period of adjustment when first getting home.

- Students are used to being more independent, so take that into consideration during the first few weeks after they return.

- Lend an attentive ear to your child when he or she gets home.

He or she probably has a great deal of experiences to share and it will be a terrific (re)bonding opportunity for both of you. <

he first type of market you could participate in is the private market. In the private market, Tyou would be purchasing a direct interest in

one or more real estate properties. You would own and operate the piece of real estate yourself (or through a property manager), and you would receive the rent payments and value changes from that investment. For example, if you were to purchase an industrial building that was leased to one or more tenants who pay you rent, you would be participating in the private real estate market. You could also participate in this market by purchasing properties with any number of partners - this is known as a pool or syndicate.

Equity and Debt InvestmentsIn addition to choosing your market, you need to choose whether to invest in debt or equity. When you invest in debt, you are lending funds to an owner or purchaser of real estate. You receive periodic interest payments from the owner and a security charge against the property in the form of a mortgage. At the end of the mortgage term, you get back the balance of your mortgage principal. This type of real estate investing is quite like that of bonds. An equity investment, on the other hand, represents a residual interest in the property. When you are an equity investor, you are essentially the owner of the property. You stand to gain a lot when the property value increases or if you are able to get more rent for your building. However, if things should go wrong (for example, all your tenants vacate and you can't make your mortgage payment) then the mortgagee, who has a priority interest in your property, may foreclose and you must forfeit your equity position to satisfy their security. In that sense, the risks of an equity position in real estate is much like that of owning stock.

The choice of whether you want to invest in equity or debt will depend upon your risk tolerance and your return expectations. The riskier choice is investing in equity, but you can also make a lot more money! As the greater the risk, the greater the reward. When you're looking at the underlying real estate, one of the most important criteria (aside from location, location, location!) is the type of property. When considering a purchase, you need to ask yourself whether the underlying properties are, for example, residential homes, shopping malls, warehouses, office towers or a combination of any of these. Each type of real estate has a different set of drivers influencing its performance. You can't simply assume one type of property will perform well in a market where a different type is performing well. Likewise, you can't assume one type of property will continue to be a good investment simply because it has performed well in the past.

Income-Producing and Non-Income-Producing InvestmentsThere are four broad types of income-producing real estate: offices, retail, industrial and leased residential.

There are many other less common types as well, such as hotels, mini-storage, parking lots and seniors care housing. The key criteria in these investments that we are focusing on is that they are income producing.

Non-income-producing investments, such as houses, vacation properties or vacant commercial buildings, are as sound as income-producing investments. Just keep in mind that if you invest equity in a non-income producing property you will not receive any rent, so all of your return must be through capital appreciation. If you invest in debt secured by non-income-producing real estate, remember that the borrower's personal income must be sufficient to cover the mortgage payments, because there is no tenant income to secure the payments.

Office PropertyOffices are the "flagship" investment for many real estate owners. They tend to be, on average, the largest and highest profile property type because of their typical location in downtown cores and sprawling suburban office parks.

At its most fundamental level, the demand for office space is tied to companies' requirement for office workers, and the average space per office worker. The typical office worker is involved in things like finance, accounting, insurance, real estate, services, management and administration. As these "white-collar" jobs grow, there is greater demand for office spaces.

Returns from office properties can be highly variable because the market tends to be sensitive to economic performance. One downside is that office buildings have high operating costs, so if you lose a tenant it can have a substantial impact on the returns for the property. However, in times of prosperity, offices tend to perform extremely well, because demand for space causes rental rates to increase and an extended time period is required to build an office tower to relieve the pressure on the market and rents.

Retail PropertyThere is a wide variety of Retail properties, ranging from large enclosed shopping malls to single tenant buildings in pedestrian zones. At the present time, the

Power Center format is in favor, with retailers occupying larger premises than in the enclosed mall format, and having greater visibility and access from adjacent roadways.

Many retail properties have an anchor, which is a large, well-known retailer that acts as a draw to the center. An example of a well-known anchor is Wal-Mart. If a retail property has a food store as an anchor, it is said to be food-anchored or grocery-anchored; such anchors would typically enhance the fundamentals of a property and make it more desirable for investment. Often, a retail center has one or more ancillary multi-bay buildings containing smaller tenants. One of these small units is termed a commercial retail unit (CRU).

The demand for retail space has many drivers. Among them are: location, visibility, population density, population growth and relative income levels. From an economic perspective, retails tend to perform best in growing economies and when retail sales growth is high.

Returns from Retails tend to be more stable than Offices, in part because retail leases are generally longer and retailers are less inclined to relocate as compared to office tenants.

Industrial PropertyIndustrials are often considered the "staple" of the average real estate investor. Generally, they require smaller average investments, are less management intensive and have lower operating costs than their office and retail counterparts.

There are varying types of industrials depending on the use of the building. For example, buildings could be used for warehousing, manufacturing, research and development, or distribution. Some industrials can even have partial or full office build-outs.

Some important factors to consider in an industrial property would be functionality (for example, ceiling height), location relative to major transport routes (including rail or sea), building configuration, loading and the degree of specialization in the space (such as whether it has cranes or freezers). For some uses, the presence of outdoor or covered yard space is important.

Multi-family Residential PropertyMulti-family residential property generally delivers the most stable returns, because no matter what the economic cycle, people always need a place to live. The result is that in normal markets, residential occupancy tends to stay reasonably high. Another factor contributing to the stability of residential property is that the loss of a single tenant has a minimal impact on the bottom line, whereas if you lose a tenant in any other type of property the negative effects can be much more significant.

For most commercial property types, tenant leases are either net or partially net, meaning that most operating expenses can be passed along to tenants. However, residential properties typically do not have this attribute, meaning that the risk of increases in building operating costs is borne by the property owner for the duration of the lease.

A positive aspect of residential properties is that in some countries, government-insured financing is available. At the expense of a small premium, insured financing lowers the interest rate on mortgages, thereby enhancing potential returns from the investment. <

t was a 'sigh of relief' ceremony, when the Chief Presiding Officer of the much Iawaited polls to usher in a 'breath of

fresh air' at the third tier of government in Delta State, Mr. Moses Ogbe, convened a meeting of registered political parties to reel out the good news. And what was the 'good news'? That, commencing from Tuesday May 13 2014 to Saturday October 25 2014, a time table and schedule of activities for Local Government Council general elections was in place!

What a climax to the apprehension that had trailed stakeholder's apathy on the ability of the Moses Ogbe led Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) to fix a time table for the conduct of the long over due polls at the Local Government level! The apprehension seemed to receive wide sympathy as most political stakeholders felt that after a year of its inauguration in May 2013, and with no indication of what DSIEC was up to apart from a state wide tour to assess the state of facilities in its field offices spread across the 25 LGAs, and a 2 – Day seminar it organized in collaboration with INEC in February this year, there was no tangible evidence on ground to indicate the commission's seriousness to do the needful.

So it must have been with a sigh of relief that Mr Moses Ogbe, DSIEC's Chairman, told the apprehensive leaders and stakeholders of the various political parties that 'Having regard to the desire of Deltans for the conduct of a smooth and hitch free Local Government general election in the State, the Commission has resolved that the Local Government Council general election will hold on Saturday 25th October 2014'.

Not done yet, Mr. Ogbe who had under his watch superintended a myriad of elections at INEC level, continued: “The date was painstakingly chosen after wide consultations and having regard to other variables before the Commission. For instance, it would be utterly counter-productive for us to conduct the election at the peak of the rainy season because information from NIMET indicates that Delta State would experience heavy rains between June and part of October 2014. Secondly, the Commission will need to procure and produce all materials (both sensitive and non-sensitive) in good time before elections could be held. It must also be observed that a good voter's register is sine qua non to the conduct of any credible elections and by law, INEC is solely charged with the responsibility of compiling

the register of voters for use by State Independent Electoral Commissions. From details released by INEC, the distribution of the permanent voter's card and pre CVR display of voters will take place from Friday 18th July to Sunday 20th July 2014 at the various polling units. Similarly, the continuous voter's registration will take place from Wednesday 23rd July to Sunday 37th July 2014 at designated places in the registration area (ward). Since the exercises being embarked upon by INEC will impact on the operations of DSIEC and considering the need for those who are up to voting age at the time of the election to exercise their rights, we have decided to use the revised register of voters for the conduct of the local government elections. It will also be necessary to state that the mandatory voters education programme that will help members of the Commission to interface with its stakeholders at the grass roots will also be undertaken before the election.”

The DSIEC Chairman who ended his speech by appreciating the Chairmen and Secretaries of the all political parties in the State as well as other stakeholders for deeming it necessary to attend 'this meeting aimed at putting to an end, the anxieties and fears that have been expressed in certain quarters by some of our stakeholders regarding the conduct of the local government elections in the state', solicited the cooperation, understanding and support of all political parties in the state and other stakeholders in ensuring that the election is held as proposed. “Knowing fully well that your honest contribution would help DSIEC enthrone people oriented and trusted leadership at the third tier of government”.

The sigh of relief on the faces and in the hearts of stakeholders present was palpable and visible! As the State Chairman of Democratic Peoples Party (DPP), Chief Tony Ezeagwu put it succinctly, “this is a welcome development that has put paid to speculations making the rounds that DSIEC lacks the bite to conduct Local Government elections this year. We at DPP are okay with the time table but urge the Commission to put their acts together in order to earn the confidence of stakeholders in their ability to conduct a free, fair and credible Local Government election come Saturday 25th October 2014".

With the historic unveiling of the time table for the conduct of the Local Government Polls in Delta State, it is evidently a conclusion, both unanimous and obvious that all eyes are on the Moses Ogbe- led Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC), to rise to the occasion with all might, mirth, main, and muscle. The choice is theirs, either to become the victor or the villain! <

uilding on the success of its midsize Q5, Audi will soon Boffer a smaller crossover

with the 2015 Audi Q3. Although late to the premium compact crossover party, Audi should have little trouble making up ground with its third SUV in the United States. The Q3 will use a turbocharged four-cylinder engine matched to a six-speed automatic transmission. The 2.0-liter engine is rated at 200 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque, which should deliver lively acceleration and enough low-end muscle for the cargo duties expected of a small SUV. Front-wheel drive will come standard, with all-wheel drive an available option.

The Q3 is nearly 10 inches shorter than the Q5, but will still offer a useful 48 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded down (16.2 cubes with the seats up).

Along with standard features including 18-inch wheels, a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery and heated 12-way front seats, the Q3's options will include sportier front seats, a navigation system with 7-inch display, a 14-speaker Bose audio system and a power liftgate. Available safety features will include blind-spot monitoring, parking assist, a rearview camera and rear seat side airbags (side curtain airbags come standard).

The Q3 will also offer three driver-adjustable dynamic modes: Auto, Dynamic and Comfort. We drove a Q3 in Europe and found it unnecessarily firm in anything but its Comfort setting. While the SUV offers plenty of grip and suppresses body roll quite well, its speed-sensitive steering doesn't allow much road feel to come through. A more rugged A3 it is not.

The Q3 sells in Europe for around $40,000. That kind of money buys a Range Rover Evoque in the U.S., while one of the Q3's main rivals, the BMW X1, starts near $31,000. We expect the

Q3 to fall somewhere in the middle when it goes on sale in late summer, especially when the forthcoming Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class arrives. <

Healthy living Facts & Tips

ndulge in fresh, succulent juicy melon

when they are in season and enoy an array Iof nutrients, vitamin and minerals. It is also

incredibly hydrating (up to 92% water!) and is

naturally low-fat. Make this melon a part of your

daily diet and you will reap amazing benefits that

range from improving cardiovascular health to

nourishing your eyes and revving up your

immune system. Read on to discover 8 amazing

health benefits of watermelon!

Cardiovascular & Bone Health

The lycopene in watermelon is especially

important for our cardiovascular health and is now

being recognized as an important factor in

promoting bone health. Consuming large amounts

of watermelon has also been correlated with

improved cardiovascular function because it

improves blood flow via vasodilation (relaxation

of blood pressure). Dietary lycopene (from foods

like watermelon or tomatoes) reduces oxidative

stress which normally reduces the activity of

osteoblasts and osteoclasts (the two major bone

cells involved in the pathogenesis of osteoporosis)

– this means stronger bones for those consuming

lycopene-rich foods. Watermelon is also rich in

potassium which helps to retain calcium in your

body, resulting in stronger bones and joints.

Reduces Body Fat

The citrulline in watermelon has been shown to

reduce the accumulation of fat in our fat cells.

Citrulline is an amino acid which converts into

arginine with help from the kidneys. When our

bodies absorb citrulline it can take the step of

converting into arginine if so required. Citrulline,

when consumed, has the ability to (through a

series of steps) block the activity of TNAP (tissue-

nonspecific alkaline phosphatase) which makes

our fat cells create less fat, and thus helps prevent

over-accumulation of body fat.

Anti-inflammatory & Antioxidant Support

Watermelon is rich in phenolic compounds like

flavonoids, carotenoids, and triterpenoids. The

carotenoid lycopene in watermelon is particularly

beneficial in reducing inflammation and

neutralizing free radicals. The tripterpenoid

cucurbitacin E is also present in watermelon,

which provides anti-inflammatory support by

blocking activity of cyclo-oxygenase enzymes

which normally lead to increased inflammatory

support. Make sure you pick ripe watermelons,

because they contain higher amounts of these

beneficial phenolic compounds.

Diuretic & Kidney Support

Watermelon is a natural diuretic which helps

increase the flow of urine, but does not strain the

kidneys (unlike alcohol and caffeine).

Watermelons helps the liver process ammonia

(waste from protein digestion) which eases strain

on the kidneys while getting rid of excess fluids.

Muscle & Nerve Support

Rich in potassium, watermelon is a great natural

electrolyte and thus helps regulate the action of

nerves and muscles in our body. Potassium

determines the degree and frequency with which

our muscles contract, and controls the excitation

of nerves in our body.

Alkaline-forming

Watermelons have an alkaline-forming effect in

the body when fully ripe. Eating lots of alkaline-

forming foods (fresh, ripe, fruit and vegetables)

can help reduce your risk of developing disease

and illness caused by a high-acid diet (namely,

meat, eggs and dairy).

Improves Eye Health

Watermelon is a wonderful source of beta-

carotene (that rich red hue of watermelon = beta

carotene) which is converted in the body to

vitamin A. It helps produce the pigments in the

retina of the eye and protects against age-related

macular degeneration as well as prevents night

blindness. Vitamin A also maintains healthy skin,

teeth, skeletal and soft tissue, and mucus

membranes.

Immune Support, Wound Healing & Prevents

Cell Damage

The vitamin C content in watermelon is

astoundingly high. Vitamin C is great at

improving our immune system by maintaining the

redox integrity of cells and thereby protecting

them from reactive oxygen species (which

damages our cells and DNA). The role of vitamin

C in healing wounds has also been observed in

numerous studies because it is essential to the

formation of new connective tissue. The enzymes

involved in forming collagen (the main

component of wound healing) cannot function

without vitamin C. If you are suffering from any

slow-healing wounds, up your intake of vitamin C

heavy fruit! <

ight at the end of one of the greatest seasons in European soccer history there was still Rtime for one more dramatic twist, one that

handed Real Madrid the 10th European title it so desperately craved.

Real has spent fortunes on cementing itself as a heavyweight of world soccer and eventually, on an extraordinary night in Lisbon, money spoke – loudly.

After its city neighbor Atletico Madrid had come within two minutes of holding on to win the trophy, Real was able to use the combined forces of the world's most expensive player, and its best player, to seal the deal.

The ludicrous figure of $124 million the club paid to sign Gareth Bale last summer was much derided at the time and occasionally since, but when the athletic Welshman rose to head home what turned out to be the decisive goal with 10 minutes of extra time remaining, it was worth every penny.

By then, Atletico was done, physically and emotionally, having seen its dream of completing the Spanish league and Champions League double cruelly snatched away when Sergio Ramos' late equalizer cancelled out Diego Godin's first half goal.

Real Madrid is called the Galacticos for a reason, embarking each summer upon a quest to sign the best player or players available on the market.

If they could have kept Real out for just a few more moments the glory would have been theirs, but Ramos, with a perfectly timed header and in the nick of time, struck to send the game into extra time.

After Bale and Marcelo scored and Ronaldo fired home a penalty to make it 4-1, the frustration boiled over for Atletico coach Diego Simeone, who took offense at the classless and premature celebrations of Real Madrid's Raphael Varane and rushed out onto the field to remonstrate with him.

It was a sad way for the Atletico dream to come to an end, but their season will eternally be worthy of praise and commendation.

That night though, was Real's, its first Champions League success since 2002 and the one that had come to be known as the mystical "La Decima" among those devoted to the club.

For Ronaldo it was the prize he wanted as much as any, the one he was signed to win five years ago. Coming in the capital city of Portugal, the place where he burst to prominence as a precocious teenager with Sporting Lisbon, it could not have been any sweeter.

For head coach Carlo Ancelotti, who would have found himself under pressure without this victory, it was both vindication of his methods and a remarkable fifth personal Champions League medal.

And for Bale, it will surely mean an end to any question marks about whether that fee was worth it.

Perhaps no man can be truly be worth such an inflated amount, but in terms of a return on investment, Real must feel as though it got the good end of the deal right now. <

Five Nigerian players to watch at theWorld CupPowered by forwards Emmanuel Emenike

and Victor Moses, Nigeria won its first African Cup title in nearly two decades last year. The next step is to achieve something at the World Cup.

Emenike was one of the African Cup's top scorers and Moses won the Man of the Match award in the final.

Alongside those two, central midfielder John Obi Mikel will likely play a pivotal role in Brazil when the team comes up against Argentina, Bosnia and Iran in Group F.

Here are five players to watch:

EMMANUEL EMENIKE

The difference between Nigeria with and Nigeria without Emmanuel Emenike is clear.

In the latter stages of last year's African Cup, the Super Eagles powered past Mali 4-1 in the semifinals with him, then sorely missed the injured striker in a tense 1-0 win over Burkina Faso in the final.

The 27-year-old Fenerbahce forward continued his good form with crucial goals in Nigeria's World Cup qualifying campaign, scoring twice in Ethiopia for a 2-1 win in the playoffs.

VICTOR MOSES

Struggling for game time at Liverpool, Victor Moses plays a valuable role for Nigeria.

His work out wide or as a second striker was an important factor in the success of Emmanuel Emenike as the pair combined well at the African Cup of Nations.

Moses' lack of action at Liverpool is a cause for concern for Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi, who views the powerful and pacey player as one of his best attacking threats.

JOHN OBI MIKEL

Like Victor Moses, Jon Obi Mikel's time on the bench in the Premier League with Chelsea raises worries for his readiness at the World Cup.

With Mikel, Nigeria has the stability in central midfield that allows forwards Emmanuel Emenike and Victor Moses, and midfielders like Ahmed Musa and Sunday Mba, to create and score goals.

Still only 26, Mikel is one of Nigeria's most experienced players.

VINCENT ENYEAMA

Nigeria captain Vincent Enyeama was in bullish mood when asked about the Super Eagles' chances in Brazil.

The 31-year-old will play in his third World Cup next month and fresh from winning the Marc-Viven Foe award for being the best African player in Ligue 1, the keeper thinks his team can go one better than Ghana.

'I think we are going to make big progress,' the goalkeeper told FIFA.com.

EFE AMBROSE

A right back or central defender, Efe Ambrose gives Nigeria an extra attacking outlet on the right flank as well as defensive solidity in times of trouble.

Ambrose was also a regular in the African Cup of Nations-winning team and has Champions League experience with Scottish club Celtic. <

BRAZIL 2014

Team Review:

t is an undisputable fact that the game of football is the most fascinating sporting Iactivity on planet earth and attracts millions

of viewers all over the globe.

The 2014 FIFA world cup going on in 'brazil presents the 20th edition of this football fiesta since its inception in 1930 and would be played in 12 cities, including Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Cuiaba, among others. This is the 2nd time that Brazil has hosted the competition, the previous being in 1950 when they lost in the finals against fellow South Americans Uruguay. With 8 groups, 32 teams and 64 matches, all is set to present another world champion.

Meanwhile, only eight countries have won the world cup including Brazil (5 times) Italy (4 times), Germany (3 times), Argentina and Uruguay have won twice, while France, England and Spain have picked it once.

As often said, individual players do not determine who wins but the team and 90 minutes of play does; and this makes the ongoing tournament most unpredictable.

From the time of Brazilian Pele, Ronaldo De Lima, Argentine Diego Armando Maradona, German Gerd Muller, Oliver Kahn, Yohan Cruyff and Zinedine Zidane of France till now, teams have always been built around a key player who fires his side to every win.

Brazil

Brazil is the only team that has featured in all edition of FIFA world cup and this fact places them as favorites to hoist the 20th edition. For the past two years, Felipe Scolari's tutored side has improved tactically, and in all department of the squad. With the likes of Neymar, who has become a key player for the Selecao, had a wonderful debut season in Europe with Barcelona. Alongside is Hulk who enjoyed a debut season in Zenit St Petersburg, Chelsea's Oscar, Tottenham's Paulinho in midfield with the defence line well marshalled by Thiago Motta, David Luiz (who completed a €50m move to Paris Saint German) the South Americans would be looking to oust the spirit of 1950 where the nation were thrown into mourning following that disastrous loss to Uruguay in the final. Currently ranked 3rd, Brazil is one of the most successful football nations, winning a record of 5 world cup trophies and looks set to lift the trophy again this time on home soil for the first time.

Argentina

Argentina is another favorite for this year's football fiesta. After failing to win any remarkable trophy in both the South American Continent and the world

TEAM REVIEW

for more than 10 years the Albiceleste will be hoping to climb back to the top of world football especially with talismanic captain, Lionel Messi looking to join the likes of Diego Armando Maradona and Claudio Gentile as world cup greats. Runners up in 1930 and 1990, winners in 1978 and 1986 since then the Argentine national side have failed to make good progress. Most notable is their 1-nil loss to West Germany at the Italia 1990world cup final, 0-2 loss to Uruguay in 2011 quarter final of Copa America (despite hosting) and a 4-0 thrashing by Germany in the quarter finals of the 2010 FIFA world cup in South Africa that cost Deigo Maradona his coaching job. Ranked 5th in the latest Fifa ranking, all is set for the Argentine national side, parading four time world player of the year Messi (28 goals last season), Gonzalo Higuain (24 goals), Kun Aguero (15 goals) in-form Angel Di Maria (6 goals), Javier Mascherano, Martin Demichilis among others to stake a claim for the elusive trophy as well as posing a great threat to all other teams in the world cup.

Germany

“Die Mannschaft” of Germany is yet one amazing side to watch out for in every competition. Interesting of all is that the Germany national team for almost 10 years now, have not been to any championship without clinching a trophy. In Euro Championship they are the most successful and the most decorated side in the history of Fifa world cup, winning 3 golds (1954, 1974, 1990), 4 silver (1966, 1982, 1986 & 2002), four Broonze (1934, 1970, 2006 & 2010) and securing a 4th place finish in 1958. Currently ranked 2nd, Joachim Low's side has the backing ofcontroversial Chelsea Coach Jose Mourinho to lead group G ahead of Portugal and according to two time world cup champion, Cafu there is no doubt that Germany can make it to the finals.

Spain

Spanish team remain a side to beat. Following their recent success in the last 6years under Vicente Del Bosque which saw them clinch 2010 world cup, 2008 & 2012 Euro championship (including a 4-0 humiliation of Italy in the final), Spain remain the only side to have won the Euro Championship back to back. It is arguably true that no squad has the combination of talent, experience and synergy of Spain. Currently ranked 1st in the world, the

Spanish side were dismantled in a 3 nil unexpected loss to Brazil in the final of the 2013 confederations cup, which brings to question the durability and consistency of the tiki-taka tactics. Thanks to the likes of Sergio Ramos, Gerard pique, Andres Iniesta, Koke and Deigo Costa among others, who are ready to use their boots in justifying their big pay cheque.

While so much can be said about most teams as title contenders, group D features football power house including four time winners Italy, two time winners Uruguay, one time winner England and Costa Rica with promising talents that could spin surprises.

Uruguay side spearheaded by scintillating Luiz Suarez, won the maiden edition in 1930 & in the Brazilian soil in 1950, shocked fellow South American in a 0-1 victory. Uruguay with great football history is one of the most successful teams in South America, winning 20 Copa America title, more than any other South American side.

Still in same group is England with so much promising talents. But after a dismal performance in the last five years with great players, like Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard and Captain Steven Gerard, not so much is expected of them.

With in-form record breaking World Player of the year, Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal is another brilliant side. Unfortunately it has been a question of guess if the forward would be fully fit to play in full capacity at the world cup. Currently ranked 4th is a somewhat proof that Paulo Bento's side is not a one man team and is a contender for the trophy.

As African Champions, Nigeria is not left out. Through years of inconsistency, 1994 captain Stephen Keshi took Africa by storm when he led his boys, including 16 debutants to clinch the 2013 CAF Nations Cup. Not withstanding this feat, fans and analyst find it difficult to guarantee Nigeria a place after the group stage. Most notable among fans is that the Super Eagles has drawn all friendly matches since winning the Nations cup and losing the last warm-up match to U.S.A. Steven Keshi will also be making his debut as a world cup coach after making his debut as a world cup player and captain of the Super Eagles at the quadrennial football fiesta at the USA in 1994 that remains Nigeria's brightest team at the mundial till date after losing to eventual finalist Italy in the second round.

Ironically the Super Eagles made its debut at the 1994 world cup as African champions and Keshi will be leading the African champions to this world cup as coach.

Just as several teams rose up to occasions to save the day, Nigeria can as any other team pull a surprise.

So it was in Euro 2004 for Greece, 2006 FIFA world cup for Italy, 2011 Copa America for Uruguay, 2010 world cup for quarter-finalist Ghana and 2013 CAF for Nigeria, thus any team can win the day. From June 12 with the kick-off at the magnificient Sao Paulo Stadium to the closing ceremony at the historic Maracana stadium on July 13 the world is expected to be held spell bound for the one month football festival. <

Personal Development

ersonal development includes activities

that improve awareness and identity, Pdevelop talents and potential, build

human capital and facilitate employability,

enhance quality of life and contribute to the

realization of dreams and aspirations. The

concept is not limited to self-help but includes

formal and informal activities for developing

others in roles such as teacher, guide,

counselor, manager, life coach or mentor.

When personal development takes place in the

context of institutions, it refers to the methods,

programs, tools, techniques, and assessment

systems that support human development at

the individual level in organizations.

Personal development includes the following

activities:

·Improving self-awareness.

·Improving self-knowledge.

·Improving or learning new skills.

·Becoming a self-leader.

·Building or renewing identity/self-esteem.

·Developing strengths or talents.

·Improving wealth.

·Spiritual development.

·Identifying or improving potential.

·Building employability or human capital.

·Enhancing lifestyle or the quality of life.

·Improving health.

·Fulfilling aspirations.

·Initiating a life enterprise or personal

autonomy.

·Defining and executing personal development

plans.

·Improving social abilities.

Personal development can also include

developing other people. This may take place

through roles such as those of a teacher or

mentor, either through a personal

competency (such as the skill of

certain managers in developing

the potential of employees) or a

professional service (such as

providing training, assessment or

coaching).

Beyond improving oneself and

developing others, personal

development is a field of practice and research.

As a field of practice it includes personal

development methods, learning programs,

assessment systems, tools and techniques. As a

field of research, personal development topics

increasingly appear in scientific journals, higher

education reviews, management journals and

business books.

Any sort of development—whether economic,

political, biological, organizational or

personal—requires a framework if one wishes

to know whether change has actually occurred.

In the case of personal development, an

individual often functions as the primary judge

of improvement, but validation of objective

improvement requires assessment using

standard criteria. Personal development

frameworks may include goals or benchmarks

that define the end-points, strategies or plans

for reaching goals, measurement and

assessment of progress, levels or stages that

define milestones along a development path,

and a feedback system to provide information

on change.

The mind as the centre point of personal

development.

Personal Development

The ultimate freedom we have as human beings

is the power (free will) to select what we will

allow our minds to dwell upon- thoughts.

Having acknowledged this, the essential

principle of mind transformation becomes a key

issue in personal development. This is because

every human being is a product of his/her

thoughts- what you think, that you become!

This is the invisible, mystical and undisputable

power of the mind. Thoughts are the place

where we can and must begin to change.

Clearly, our thoughts are one of the most basic

sources of our life.

By 'thought' we mean all of the ways in which

we are conscious of things- and it includes our

memories, perceptions and beliefs. Thoughts

determine the orientation of everything we do

and evoke the feelings that frame our world and

motivate our actions. Interestingly, you can't

evoke thoughts by feeling a certain way.

However, we can evoke- and to some degree-

control our feelings by directing our thoughts.

Our human nature as active and creative beings

depends upon our ability to envision what is not

the case, as well as what is. Our ability to plan

for the future must constantly run ahead of

reality. However, we should note that we do not

merely observed and/or interpret reality, but we

create reality. <
