The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan

CA Women Directory 2018

The year 2017 witnessed many breakthroughs in gender diversity. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP) by formalising its CA Women’s Forum established in 2010, constituted CA Women’s Committee with an objective to make CA as first choice profession for female students, advocate enabling working environment and to guide, promote & highlight women talent at all levels. At the same time, in ICAP Elections, a woman was elected in the Council and one in Regional Committee for the first time in 57 years of the Institute. The World Economic Forum statistics put Pakistan at rock bottom in terms of gender diversity. Many concrete steps have been taken by the Government of Pakistan to reduce this gap at the work place. One such step is mandatory inclusion of a woman director on the Boards of all public interest entities under the Companies Act 2017. We believe this legal provision will increase participation of professional women at leadership positions. In order to encourage and highlight our women talent, the CA Women’s Committee of ICAP inline with its objectives has taken the initiative and compiled a database called CA Women Directory 2018 of Prospective Independent Directors of women members in leadership roles by virtue of their eligibility as independent directors on the Boards of public interest entities. This Directory will benefit the entire corporate sector in Pakistan to select professional women for leadership positions and will save quality time and resources. The Directory has two sections:

■ Section A depicts individual profiles of women with over 10 years of membership with ICAP; and

■ Section B shows names with membership numbers of all other women who can be contacted through CA Women’s Committee, if required by emailing on [email protected].

Our women members carry diverse backgrounds with rich local and international experiences at leadership and senior management positions in the banking, non-banking financial services, textiles, and all other prominent sectors of the economy. Many of them are at top leadership roles, heading finance functions, performing advisory roles, extending professional services in large practices as well as successfully running their own practices with instinct entrepreneurial skills.

The First Edition of the CA Women Directory will be available from April 16, 2018 on www.icapcawc.com. The Directory will be continuously updated and the profiles of more women CAs fulfilling the experience criterion will be added in the future editions.

CA Women Directory 2018 An Initiative of CA Women’s Committee

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan

President’s Message

It is truly remarkable to witness that the CA Women’s Committee has taken the initiative of compiling a prospective independent directors’ Directory of CA Women. The compilation of such a Directory was much needed due to the recent requirement in the Companies Act 2017 and revised code of corporate governance due to which now the listed companies are required to nominate an independent woman director on their boards.

In the CA profession, we have many outstanding CA women who have reached the highest positions in their respective organisations due to their brilliance and continuous hard work. It is really heartening to see that such visionary women will now be on the boards to protect public interest and will be a true asset for the corporate sector.

I congratulate the CA Women’s Committee that they have managed to do this herculean task in such a short time which just goes to prove the potential and capabilities of our CA women.

Chairperson’s Message

It is an honour and immense pleasure for me to lead the initiative under the guidance of CA Women’s Committee and showcase to the world the exceptional talent of our senior women members by publishing CA Women Directory 2018 for prospective independent directors.

The World Bank’s report on Observance of Standards and Codes for Accounting & Auditing 2017 prepared in consultation with The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP) indicates the lowest regional participation of women in finance and highlights the importance of appropriate measures to be taken by the Government to remove this anomaly. The historic change brought in through the Companies Act 2017 for mandatory inclusion of one woman on the Board of all public interest entities is one such step taken in the right direction by the Government. Upon its application, ICAP has felt the need to assist the corporate sector and compile a database of our eligible women members by virtue of their qualification and professional experiences.

At present qualified women comprise merely 7.5% of total membership of ICAP. With more than 600 members, 141 women hold more than 10 years of ICAP membership, out of these 35 senior women members have shared their profiles till the issuance of this Directory. Please note that we are also including list of 182 women members who carry post qualification experiences between 5 to 9 years. We shall continuously update this publication and will endeavor to include and enhance professional profile database.

I am confident CA Women Directory will not only facilitate the entire corporate sector in selecting the most competent professional women at one place but they will also benefit from their vast experiences and deep insight to achieve their corporate goals.

I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to our sub committee members, Asher Noor, Hina Kazi, Moneeza Usman Butt and Rahaila Aleem for their extensive participation, grateful to past President ICAP Zafar Sobani for his continued guidance and appreciate commendable efforts of Shumaila Halo, Secretary CA Women’s Committee and Senior Manager Education & Training, ICAP Publication department and entire Secretariat for extending full support in compilation of the Directory.
