Being the only well known state institute of technology in East Java, Institute Teknologi

Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) vision is to be a world-class university with an international

recognition in science, technology and art. Meanwhile, ITS mission is to contribute the

development of science, technology and art for the welfare of the community through

educational activities, research, community service, and management systems based on

Information and Communication Technology (ICT). ITS has become one of the best technological

universities in Indonesia. It currently has 5 faculties namely Faculty of Mathematics and Natural

Sciences, Faculty of Industrial Technology, Faculty of Civil Engineering and Planning, Faculty of

Marine Technology and Faculty of Information Technology.

Department of Marine Transportation under Faculty of Marine Technology aims to

educate student to master marine transportation planning and analysis, port infrastucture and

ship coceptual design that internationally eligibled. Department of Marine Transportation has

three experties including Shipping, Port and Infrastructure, and Maritime Logistics. Our vision is

being a higher education institution in sea transport sector with national and international

networks that produce global high quality graduates.

Singapore is one of leading countries in marine transportation sector (port, shipping,

logistic and shipyard) in the world, and more importantly, it is our neighbouring country. In line

with our department experties, we have plan to organize student activity namely “Marine

Transportation Study Excursion Singapore 2015”. The aim of this study excursion is to

Introduce to our students some elements in marine transportation world so that they will have a

better insight in the future. We expect to visit and learn more from Singapore company’s

experiences to open mind-set of our students and broaden their knowledges so that they will

ready to face international community in the near future, such as ASEAN Economic Community

(AEC).

The Port of Singapore is the busiest container transhipment hub in the world.

Located on the southern end of the Malay Peninsula, about 30km south-west of the

Port of Johor in Malaysia, the Port of Singapore offers connectivity to over 600 ports

in 123 countries. It is the largest publicly owned port in the world.The Port of

Singapore has conventional and special purpose terminals to handle oil, petroleum and

natural gas products as well as cement and steel products. It also has a dedicated car

terminal, which is one of the major automotive transhipment hubs in the region.Other

ancillary services include the supply of water and provisions. Pilotage and towage

services are also provided.The Port of Singapore has terminals at Brani, Keppel,

Tanjong Pagar, Pasir Panjang, Jurong and Sembawang. The terminals can handle

coasters and lighters, cargo freighters, RO-RO ships, bulk carriers and container

vessels.
