Format: I am going to create a magazine, it will be in the rock genre in the form of a DPS and a Front Cover Page as part of a BIGGER project for BOOM magazine. The magazine is going to have the same size of Kerrang magazine and be 28 ½ x 21 ½.Working Title: My working title is BOOM although I may choose to us my alternative name Klashed. The title is meant to symbolise how ‘full-on’ the magazine will be and how it will not be a standard and low key magazine, but a ‘loud’ magazine which is suggested in the word BOOM.Genre:The sub-genre of my music magazine will be heavy rock music. This magazine will be in competition with Kerrang! magazine and revolver mag magazine. They will be in competition because all three magazines over a service to the rock music genre and are all focused on heavy rock music. Explain what the sub-genre of music magazine it is and outline who the magazine will be aiming Content:In this magazine the content would be based on the mood that is shown through the font in the masthead, edgy and informal language will be used. The content of the magazine would bring a wide range of coverage on heavy rock artists, heavy rock music and heavy rock information. This would be dominating over magazines from the same sub-genre as Kerrang no other rock magazines includes individual profiles and artists which I will have in my project based magazine. In terms of star appeal theory (Richard Dyer) the readers will be attracted to my magazine as they will know from the front cover that certain artists from the genre that are deemed popular by readers who are enthusiastic with rock music.Style or Approach:I plan to use a colour scheme consisting of dark colours such as black, red and brown, this will be to denote the magazines mood representing the sub-genre of heavy rock. The front cover will be the main attraction for style and theme as the masthead I plan to use will have flames engulfing the title ‘BOOM’ to give an effect of heavy, dark and bold mood to the content. I will use Photoshop CS5.1 to construct the magazine pages because Photoshop allows you to perfect the worst image and make into something to be proud of. The program gives photos a ‘professional touch up’ that reflects a good magazine page.Audience:The reader for my audience will stereotypically be a 16-25 white male who has a low income, which is why the price (£3.00) for the magazine is fairly low. The denotation of the magazine has a dark appearance therefore those who specifically like rock music will like the appearance of the magazine because of the use of dark colours. This also limits the reader range. The reader can be outside these guidelines but the reader/audience for this heavy rock magazine will be stereotypically in the assumption. According to Katz Uses & Gratification the audience are able to escape (diversion) from reality and everyday life by reading this magazine. Furthermore, according to the socio-economic graph the audience will be from the skilled manual workers

category, this is because rock music is stereotypically for men and so is manual work. Length:The magazine will be 60 pages long, including the front and back cover on A4 size paper. The amount of pages in this magazine has dictated that the magazine should be released on a monthly basis. 210 x 297mm.Frequency:Monthly. 60 pages is just under the amount that Kerrang possess in its magazine which means that the choice to release the magazine monthly as do Kerrang is a smart decision.Cost:The magazine will be priced at £3.00 as my target audience and readers are stereotypically not on high income and £3.00 is an affordable price for the stereotype of ‘strugglers’.
