From Promopress Editions we are pleased to share with you our new selection of titles for the Autumn-Winter season. We are convinced this catalogue reflects our love for all things creative and states our conviction that beautiful, useful books, as physical objects, have a bright future ahead.

We are delighted to include Portraits, a collection of illustrations by Jorge Arévalo, among our forthcoming titles. With heaps of talent and subtle irony he captures the essence of what makes each of our interna-tional celebrities special and unique. You have already seen his work in The New Yorker, Vanity Fair or Rolling Stone, amongst others.

Equally evocative and inspiring, The Art of Sketching: 200 Years of Travel Notebooks explores the history of these intimate, priceless documents through time. A hybrid between visual and textual creativity, the origins of the travel notebook go as far back as Leonardo Da Vinci, through artists such as Delacroix, Turner or Gauguin. This book shows the evolution in techniques, styles and perspectives in this fascinating and utterly contemporary sphere, from earlier travellers to today’s sketchers.

For our younger readers, but not exclusively, we are excited to offer you the third volume of our Animal Series: following A Wonderful World of Animals and Dinosaurs, My Beastly Activity Book, Sweet Monsters of the World is Victor Escandell’s new title, this time featuring the scariest monsters that have been terrifying humans of all cultures for thousands of years. Victor Escandell is an immensely talented and versatile artist and we are proud to have him among our authors.

Our extensive list of distributors ensures our books are available all over the world. We hope that you enjoy reading them as much as we enjoy making them. Come and meet us at www.promopresseditions.com

A gorgeous collection of delightful portraits of the people you love from the world of music, fashion and the movies by the artist you will recognize from Vanity Fair, The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, Esquire, Elle, Icon or Vogue. Burlesque and warm at the same time, Jorge Arévalo’s portraits always manage to convey the soul that hides behind the personality, thus revealing the genuine zeitgeist of our generation.

As if it were just yesterday I remember the impact Arevalo’s works had on me the first time I bumped into them in a bookshop. His simple strokes, his love of black and white in contrast with bright, primary colours and his subtle, delicate irony powerfully impressed me and I sat there with the book in my hands for a long while, flicking through, back and forth, back and forth. I hope you enjoy his works as much as I do!From the Introduction by Custo Dalmau, fashion designer

Colouring, an apparently simple and mechanical ac-tivity, has long been known as an effective and also very pleasant way to sharp-en our minds and boost our thought processes. On top of that, it’s also extremely unwinding, amusing and, beware, highly addictive! Throughout 100 pages full of imaginative illustrations and lavish patterns in-spired by natural motives, Hidden Nature will open the door to exploring our artistic side and re-awake that child inside us that still holds our creative imagination.

With its square format and excellent paper quality, the book allows for the use of a wide variety of materi-als, from simple crayons to water-colourable pencils or felt-tips that won’t show on the reverse. Hidden Nature has been crafted to provide hours of fun and relaxation for everyone, including the most amateur artist.

This insightful and beautifully illustrated volume reveals how folding presents many intriguing challenges for designers, not to mention end results that will wow those who love innovative design.

The Art of Folding goes far beyond the boundaries of origami and folded paper, shedding light on a whole range of pos-sibilities and materials.

The book includes techniques for creating patterns for knit fabrics; basic dress blocks and how to adapt these to different fabric patterns and types of garment (for example, maternity dresses); sleeves; basic blocks for men’s vests and jackets; size grading for tops and dresses and the fundamentals of pattern layout. This manual pre-pares the reader to apply these concepts—along with their own intuition and creativity—to constructing patterns.

Antonio Donnanno began his career in his family’s tailoring shop. After majoring in history and philosophy, he focused on teaching costume history and patternmaking techniques. In 1982, he founded the presti-gious Euromode School Italia in Bergamo, which soon expanded abroad. He has written dozens of books on fashion and has his own consulting firm, which focuses on patternmaking and business.

Through a collection of ordinary images of daily life, this highly visual book urges us to challenge our perception of the world around us and analyse our everyday experiences. An outstanding compilation of more than 1350 illustrative pictograms, symbols, ideograms and logos, designed by LSDspace. This book serves as a valu-able graphic archive, a working tool and source of inspiration for designers and image makers. It also contains a copyright free CD containing the images in EPS vec-tor format.

Art is Trash is the first book to showcase the work, philosophy and evolution of one of the most fascinating and brave artists in the street-art scene.

Street art is conquering the world. All over the globe, urban areas are home to pioneering creators and artistic communi-ties. Art is Trash, the nom de guerre for Francisco de Pájaro, has astounded not only passers-by in the streets of London, Barcelona and New York, but also gallery owners and art curators who are hungry for straightforward, instinctive and honest artists. His work speaks explicitly to the public, de-nouncing corruption and abuse of power, and also demanding our reaction. Art is Trash’s work

has been exhibited in renowned specialist galleries in London and Barcelona and Dubai.

However, most of Art is Trash’s work is ephemeral: he uses rub-bish bags, abandoned furniture and debris to create art that works as a mirror for those who see it, reflecting our boundless, desperate consumerism and our obsession with power. It disappears fast—sometimes as soon as it is finished. This book therefore fulfils the important task of collecting and recording the works and evolution of an artist who is surely on the cusp of transforming the street—and urban-art scenes on an interna-tional scale.

eng / At present my work reflects my personal view of the geographical narrative of Israel. The sources of visual inspiration that I find around me and that awaken new creative impulses in me are infinite. The geographical structure of this land has greatly changed and yet much of the history of the world is based on this new country that is constantly changing.
