Ponding depth: The ponding layer is the top-most layer of a surface bmp,generally an open volume area for vegetation to be successful.Ponding depth refers to the depth of water which is held in theponding layer of the BMP.

Soil depth: The soil media layer is the area most immediately below theponded layer. It provides opportunity for stormwater to percolateto the subsurface and for the roots of vegetation to penetrateand take hold. Soil depth refers to the depth of water which isheld in the soil layer of the BMP.

Underdrain depth: The underdrain layer is an optional layer just beneath the soilmedia area. When present it conveys captured stormwater backto the storm drain network. Underdrain depth refers to the depthof water which is held in the underdrain layer of the BMP.
