  • Project Scope Statement

    Project Objectives:-

    In case of emergency and dangerous situations we have to alert the doctor

    immediately. For this we are using a Zigbee based network for doctor to patient

    communication in the hospital and even to communicate and indicate the status

    of the patient through SMS. This way of communication is actually done with

    Zigbee network topology and with the GSM network. Each patient will be given

    this module and with the help of this module the patient health condition is

    monitored and if there is any change in the condition of the health then it

    immediately sends that changed data through Zigbee to the local system where

    the main module is connected to the computer to maintain the status of the patient.

    The heart beat is monitored with the pulse rate of the body. The high intensity

    light sensor senses the expansion and contraction of the heart with the help of the

    nerves. That beam will transmit the signal to the receiver and the minute change

    in the pulse is noticed as the heartbeat. If there is any change in the pulses then it

    is noticed as the change in the heart and then the controller will get a disturbed

    pulse count which indicates the fault or malfunction of the heart .The controller

    is fixed for a no. of pulses initially. If there is any change in the any of the pulse

    count then it considers as a malfunction of the heart and then it transmits the pulse

    count with the patients ID to the doctor in the hospital and at the same to it sends

    a sms to a fixed number in the microcontroller. This is convenient process to

    monitor the patients health conditions form any of the distance we present. Since

    we are using both the networks like Zigbee and GSM this makes the user to

    communicate for internal system and as well as to the longer distances.

    The main processes involved in this type of control system are to monitor the

    patients health status. Zigbee is a wireless connection network that is used to connect different devices at a frequency of 2.4GHz. For medical applications also

    this Zigbee is widely used. The Zigbee can communicate with the devices of

    about 1km. The other network is GSM network. This can be operated from

    any distance to any point of control. The communication is done with the help of

    local network support. This can get communicated to any part of the world which

    the network of the local system is applicable. Here we are using for the hospital

    communication for monitoring the patient.

    Project Deliverables:-

  • Technology is being used every where in our daily life to fulfill our requirements.

    We are employing different sensors for different applications some times we may

    even use same sensors differently for different applications. What ever it may be

    the final output is life has increased its speed with the technology boosters. We

    can not only increase the speed of life but also increase security with good ideas

    to make use of this technology. One of the ideal ways of using technology is to

    employ it to sense serious health problems so that efficient medical services can

    be provided to the patient in correct time. This idea to provide efficient health

    service to patients has given birth to the project heart beat monitoring system with

    wireless interfacing to mobile phone using GSM modem. Heart beat monitor and

    display system is a portable and a best replacement for the old model stethoscope

    which is less efficient. The heart beat rate is calculated manually using

    stethoscope where the probability of error is high, because the heart beat rate lies

    between 70 to 90 per minute whose occurrence is less than 1 sec. So this device

    can be considered as a very good alternative instead of a stethoscope. This project

    aims in sending alert messages in emergency times, i.e. when a person is alone in

    home or traveling if he got heart attack or met with an accident then alerting

    messages will be send to the mobile phone. Here we get the alerting message

    from the GSM modem (SMS Message). The functioning of this device is based

    on the truth that the blood circulates for every one heart beat which can be sensed

    by using a circuit formed by the combination of an LDR and LED. Depending

    upon the rate of circulation of blood per second the heart beat rate per minute is

    calculated. This device consists of a micro controller which takes the input from

    the heart beat sensor and calculates the heart rate of the patient. The micro

    controller also takes the responsibility to convey the same information to the

    remote system via wireless communication. For transmitting the data to the

    remote system the controller is interfaced with a Zigbee transmitter. The Zigbee

    transmitter transmits the data received from the controller and the Zigbee receiver

    present at the GSM modem end receives it and also forward to the predefined

    emergency mobile number using GSM modem in emergency situations. The

    technical brilliance and development in different fields has led to a drastic in our

    lives, one among them is embedded systems. The application of these devices is

    to monitor the patient health status. Zigbee technology enables doctor to monitor

    the patients conditions even sitting in his room. Doctor will get call when

    patients body temperature and heart beat rises so that he can take precautionary

    .measures even though he will be in remote place. Patient care takers can monitor

    the equipment easily.

    The main objective of this project is:

    Monitoring the heart beat through wireless.

  • Real time monitoring of health status of a person.

    Sends alerts in the form of SMS messages to emergency ambulance.

    Works anywhere in the world (with GSM availability).

    Secure wireless communication over Zigbee.

    Technical Requirement:-

    Following Technical Requirement should be fulfilled for successful project

    execution in hospitals.

    1. 24 Hours electricity (in case of Load Shedding, Generators are other

    ultimate sources must be available)

    2. Mobile Network Signals Strength should be strong at the place of Device

    Running for GSM working.

    3. 2 Computer System with O.P Windows 7/8 (32/64 bits) with memory of

    at least 250 GB.

    INITIALLY DEFINED RISKS:

    The ECG Signal may include noise.

    The device may damage if moisture level increases.

    The heartbeat rate may not accurate

  • Project Limitations & EXCLUSIONS:-

    Project Delivery Box will not include ultimate Power sources.

    Bitter Expensive.

    Accumulation of noise with ECG signal.

    Communication for longer distance is quite difficult through Zigbee technology

    Interference of noise in GSM modem due to high Radio frequency signals.

    APPROVAL REQUIREMENTS FROM AUTHORITIES:

    An approval for PTA (Pakistan Telecommunication Authority) is mandatory for

    GSM application.

    Schedule Milestones:-

    Our Project consists of three stages that will be available according to

    following schedule.

  • Research about applications of devices used in the project will be

    available on 2nd September, 2015.

    Printed Circuit Board Layout for industrial use will be finalized before 2nd

    February, 2015.

    Software exe Files to run the project will be available on 1 May, 2016.

    Complete Project exhibition will be performed on 17th May, 2016.
