Project / Seaford Park Primary School

Builder / Kubale Constructions

Part of Seaford Park Primary School’s upgrade was the construction of a permanent building to replace existing relocatable structures.

The use of timber materials to build the walls was originally documented.

With on site construction methods becoming less productive and more time-consuming, a pre-fabricated steel framing system was adopted as a smarter alternative.

Full shop detailing, framing layouts and engineering were coordinated by the SBS Group in house design team. All openings for doors and the straight and circular windows were detailed as part of the framework.

Using BHP Truecore light gauge steel, walls were constructed straight and true as sections for easy man-handling on site.

Walls were installed without requiring any straightening, speeding up the installation process.

Project / The Clarindale Apartments

Builder / Ausco Group

The Clarindale Apartments was another ideal project for top level light gauge steel framing, replacing the timber and structural steel design.

After initial discussions, SBS Group coordinated with the builder and on site teams to detail, fabricate and deliver wall and roof truss framing. The system was fully customised to suit the building requirements and specifications.

In the words of Nick, a Senior Project Manager at Ausco Group:

“We engaged SBS Group for the design and supply of cold rolled roof steel framing and trusses at our Centre Road project, consisting of 127 apartments.

SBS designed and modelled the roof steel componentry in 3D and cooperated with our detailer, allowing integration within the same model of the hot rolled steel and concrete elements to ensure that geometry was checked and Image used courtesy of Ausco Investment Group Pty Ltd

structural integration with all elements were considered.

SBS’s design also achieved fire compliance without the need for an alternative design being proposed to MFB and building surveyor, which assisted our building permit process.

Utilising cold rolled also meant that crane time for these works were minimised with load in only being required, and the rest handled manually. This allowed the crane to be used for other activities and other work faces in conjunction.

SBS utilised their engineer as required for field work and checking of installation which also assisted in maintaining our quality processes.
