PROBLEM

Healthcare standards has increased significantly in the Indian subcontinent in last few decades but people living in rural areas and slums are still living with substandard health provisions.

Considering Oral Health as one of the important part of healthy life, Jyoti Social Foundation took the initiative to educate families and create awareness about oral health care. As bad oral health leads to

respiratory tract infections such as pneumonia or bronchitis, chronic sinus infections, postnasal

drip, diabetes, chronic acid reflux, and liver or kidney problems. So, it is very important to create the awareness about the best oral health care practices and enlighten the various aspects of oral health.

“Oral Healthcare Awareness Program” was directed mainly for the children’s of slums as they suffer a lot due to lack of awareness, uneducated parents and expensive oral health and dentistry services in India. Hardly parents care to educate children to brush regularly and use tooth paste and other healthy practices to stay healthy.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

1. Develop a strategy to better integrate oral health into life of people dwelling in slums a) Making oral health prevention and care, part of prenatal care b) Making oral health education reach children and inhabitants of slums c) Develop dental programs to reduce vertical transmission d) Dental checkup for children of slums 2. Create awareness and educate families dwelling in slums on Women Empowerment through our all engagements. a) Nukkad Natak (Street Play ) b) Awareness on vocational training and skill development.

FEEDBACKS

We received full support with enthusiasm from the society and the engagement was successful.

Program was successful with productive and exciting experience with 250 children form 100 Families in slums of Seemapuri, Delhi.

“I learnt a lot about the lives of marginal people, those who do not have anything to cheer about in their

lives. But yet they never complain. They enjoy every moment of their lives. One thing that I would to say

in the end is that to make India stand focus has to be given on inclusive development. We do not need to

make any special allocations to pull the people out of backwardness but we only need to be efficient in

our allocations we have already made.”

- Rahul Malhotra, Delhi

“The opening ceremony of Jyoti Social Foundation was the first step to bring the change and I really had

the savor of such a splendid event. The event brought to me a sense of responsibility, was source of

inspiration and allowed the me to serve for good. The event connected me to the dreams and hopes of the

little angels who if helped could be provided a better future.

With the blessings of elders, support of all the members, love by the residents and contribution of every

person involved in the event connected emotions and made me feel like a family.

I appreciate the efforts and team work by all the members of Jyoti Social Foundation who always

cooperated, managed and contributed efficiently for the success of the event have built a strong fraternity

and have inspired me already for the next events.”

- Shivanika Soni, Delhi

“The first social drive in Seemapuri Slums leaves permanent footprints in form of my learning. Meeting

kids and interacting with people, what I concluded is “To raise their standard of living, firstly we have

to put their shoes on, imbibe the ways they live their life. We actually need not to do anything huge to

bring a change rather small small efforts can bring a smile to them.”

More than anything lavishing, they are in need of basic amenities for living. They wish our patience,

attention and concern. My birth, will get worth, when after my death, I can proudly face my god and

can claim that, the heart full of love, he gave me, is now all empty because I spread it all to his

creations.

Nukkad natak on women empowerment was an eye opener. My message to my ladies and girls:

“Naari ek Shakti hai, Shakti hai uska gehna ;

Bas ab bahut hua, Aur nhi dukh sehna !!!”
