Project Recovery Harvey Outreach & Engagement Report
Week of: 5/4/2019–5/9/2019 Events Date: May 4, 2019 Event: Ashcreek HOA Community Breakfast Description of Outreach: We provided an intake specialist at the request of Vickie Cooper for the Ashcreek HOA Community Breakfast event in north Harris County. The event was attended by 30 people and offered opportunities to learn about helpful community resources. Vickie Cooper, who works with the Ashcreek HOA, invited us to attend to help impacted folks in her community with filling out their pre-applications. She included our program on the flyer sent out to homeowners. It states that help with applications would be available.

Date: May 7, 2019 Event: Pine Trails CIA Meeting Description of Outreach: Dr. Joseph C. Glenn passed out Project Recovery Harvey information at the Pine Trails CIA Meeting in Sheldon in northeast Harris County. Media Date: May 4, 2019 Publication: Houston Chronicle – The Humble Observer Media: Newspaper Link: https://www.chron.com/neighborhood/humble/news/article/Over-200-million-available-for-Houston-suburb-13818009.php Description of Outreach: Kaila Contreras of the Houston Chronicle area newspaper The Humble Observer that covers Humble and the surrounding northeast portion of Harris County, published an article on the presentation we gave at the quarterly Humble BizCom event held at Humble High School. The event is hosted by the Lake Houston Area Chamber and brings together community, education, business, and faith leaders to discuss important issues in the region. Kaila Contreras published an article giving readers an overview of the Project Recovery Harvey program directing readers to apply at the website and to call if they need assistance. She gave an overview of the different means of assistance available through the program and listed the addresses of all the permanent intake centers in the county. In addition to being available in print and online, the Humble Observer shared the article on its Facebook and Twitter pages.

They published a PDF edition of the article as well pictured below.

Date: May 6, 2019 Publication: Univision Media: TV Station Link: https://www.univision.com/local/houston-kxln/a-casi-dos-anos-del-huracan-harvey-el-condado-de-harris-busca-a-traves-de-este-programa-ayudar-a-los-afectados-video Description of Outreach: Nellie Cruz from the Harris County Community Services Department was recently interviewed on the Spanish-speaking Univision 10 PM newscast. This is the highest rated newscast in Houston. Nellie was interviewed about the program and answered questions from the anchors. They displayed the website to apply and the phone number as well the types the types of funding available through the program. Univision posted the video to its website, Facebook, and Twitter. The news station has almost 500,000 likes on Facebook and over 22,000 followers on Twitter.

Conversations & Briefings
• We met and spoke with Sheldon ISD Superintendent King R. Davis who agreed to do a callout on May 8 to Sheldon ISD parents to share Project Recovery Harvey information with them. The Superintendent shared information about the program along with details about the Sheldon mobile intake location so that parents are informed of the resources available to them in their community. Sheldon ISD will also share flyers with Sheldon ISD parents on the school’s contact list database. They posted about Project Recovery Harvey on their Facebook page on May 6.
• We spoke with Justice of the Peace Lucia Bates about attending civic club meetings and senior centers within her community. Her district includes Sheldon, Highlands, Crosby, and Baytown.
• Aldine ISD shared Project Recovery e-flyers with their contact database on May 2 and will follow up with a callout shortly.
• We are working with Goose Creek ISD to do a similar callout and to share the e-flyers with their contact database.
• Jacinda Jordan, the President of Hope Disaster Recovery, an organization that coordinates with congregations in northwest Harris County will share Project Recovery Harvey information with her disaster case managers who will share the information with their clients. According to Jacinda, they “will be a concentrated force in getting the information out to the public.”
• We met with Shirley Ronquillo of Harris County Precinct 2 and the Houston Department of Transformation nonprofit. We discussed the program with her and gave her flyers to share.

• We scheduled a Project Recovery Harvey interview for Nellie Cruz and Denise James on Univision’s 10 PM newscast on Monday, May 6. Univision is the highest rated local broadcaster in the Houston area.
• We shared Nellie Cruz’s Mega 101 radio interview with 129 Hispanic community leaders in the Spanish-speaking community to post on social media to help spread the word about Project Recovery Harvey.
• We spoke with Laura Reynolds, Asst. Program Director at SportsRadio 610/CBS Sports Radio 650, about a Project Recovery Harvey program interview on their public affairs show Eye on Houston. She agreed to have us interviewed on 95.7 The Spot, Mix 96.5, 100.3 The Bull, Sports Radio 610, and CBS Sports 650.
• We spoke with Joe Higgs of The Metropolitan Organization (TMO) who agreed to share events they will be hosting where intake specialists can attend and/or where an informational presentation can be given. We sent him Project Recovery Harvey flyers to share with the congregations affiliated with TMO. He let us know he will inform congregations in the vicinity of nearby intake centers and will direct them to those centers for assistance.
• Cypress Assistance Ministries shared Project Recovery information and social media posts with their Council of Congregations group that meets regularly at Cypress Assistance Ministries to discuss how they can work together to better the community.
• We reached out to Allison Hay, Executive Director of Houston Habitat for Humanity about working with Habitat on Project Recovery Harvey. We were informed that she will be out of office until May 16.
• We gave Denise James Project Recovery flyers to share with Harris County Public Health so that they may share this information at the various community health fairs they attend at schools across the county.
• We gave Vernon Chambers with Harris County Transit flyers to share on the public transportation they provide throughout the county.
• We shared a partner toolkit with Project Recovery Harvey resources at the request of Glen Key Willis, a realtor with Key Realtors in the Humble area. We spoke with her at the Humble BizCom event.
• Sue Nesbitt of Night Light Pediatric Care requested Project Recovery flyers to share at their clinics. We sent her flyers to share at their clinic locations located outside of Houston city limits.
