HistoryThe plateau of Karnataka is said tohave been associated to thehappenings in the Epic Ramayana.

In 1565 the empire of Vijayanagar was shattered by the Sultans of the

Deccan at the famous battle of Talikota. Meanwhile in 1399 AD, theWodeyar dynasty established itself inMysore, a small principality andmade Srirangapatnam its capital.Wodeyar's were overthrown by HyderAli. Mysore witnessed the strong rule

of Hyder Ali and his son Tipu Sultan. In 1799 the British controlledMysore, the hub of Karnataka, and itremained as a princely state up to1947. The state of Karnataka earliercalled as Mysore, became a state of the Indian Union in 1973.

SuggestionsStrong data base : Collection of detailed data in respect of healthworkforce by age, sex, education, skill etc across geographical regionsusing uniform methodology is required for all countries on a regular

    basis.

Investment on human resources in health: More investment on human resources in the health sector particularly in less developedregions is urgently needed, as there is a threat of differentepidemiological disease all over the world in view of the rapid climaticchange.

Safety and Security of HWF : As it is found that the health workforcecontributes significantly to the health status of the population

particularly in less developed countries, it is pertinent to formulatesuitable policy package for these workers in order to retain them withsafety and security for the overall development of quality in the healthcare services.

Need based policy : Lastly, no uniform policy can meet the specificneeds of a specific region and hence it needs to be target specific and need based.
