PROJECT PROFILE CHALLENGE Solar Turbines, a subsidiary of Caterpillar, Inc. is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of industrial gas turbines used in development of power generation projects around the world. Headquartered in San Diego, California, they called upon local Knoll dealer, Parron Hall, to help them design a new open plan workspace including popular adjustable height workstations into their headquarters. As part of this redesign they had to comply with new Energy Conservation Requirements, called Title 24, which requires that 50% of the power receptacles in an office space are wired to controlled circuits so that they are shut off automatically when not in use. Parron Hall used a combination of Knoll Height Adjustable and regular workstations in this project. The Height Adjustable tables, had a traditional modular electrical system running beneath the worksurface which handled the requirement of providing controlled receptacles. The also wanted to provide easy access to power at desk height for their associates. The challenge they faced was they wanted a way their associates could identify these units were connected to controlled circuits beneath the workstation. SOLUTION Parron Hall called on ECA's Representative, Kevin Rodenbeck, to help them identify a solution. ECA's Seclusion unit was selected because of its ability to mount above or below the worksurface as well as provide the power and USB connections required. In addition, ECA was able to mark the power receptacle on the unit with the controlled circuit symbol which is easily identifiable for their associates.
