Theme VI: Climate Change

Output 6.1 Mediterranean region able to face climate change challenges through a better understanding of potential impacts and ecological vulnerabilities

→ Position Paper on climate change in coastal zones of the Mediterraneanincl. a separate background paper → Results shared with the Coordinating Unit (inputs to MSSD revision and new GEF project on climate variability and change)

→ Increasing demand by Parties for assistance on various ICZM related topics;analysis of implications of Protocol provisions, preparation of Action Plan.

→ Budget constrains prevented the completion of some activities; reduction for the activities that were not considered as the highest priority or could be postponed for a later period (workshops/training on urban water resources, landscape management methodologies, spatial planning systems).

→ Additonal resources mobilised from other sources (EU, GEF). Synergies made with complementary activities and exchanges among projects.

→ Limited human resources; engagement of external young researchers - project based, creating a wider basis of ICZM practitioners/experts

→ Overall implementation in 2010-2011 was successful, work programme fulfilled in line with the timetable.
