REAL WORLD PROGRAMMING SKILLSEven if you're an absolute beginner, your student can develop real-world program-ming skills with HTML 5 and JavaScript, the language of the web. Start simple, then learn to build interactive web pages with animated shapes. Saturday mornings are a great time to enrich and extend classroom learning!

Abacus Club: Mental and Logical MathThursday Evenings (Ages 5-10)
Challenge your fear of math! Come and learn the ancient art of Abacus. Children will learn to use their hands to move the beads on the ABACUS in combinations and convert a picture to numbers. As you progress through our eight levels you will begin to visualize the imaginary Abacus and move the beads to perform “Mental Math.” Positive outcomes include improved speed and accuracy in math. Children set their own pace and we offer personalized attention to ensure the best results and fun! Start any time that suits your family schedule. Please note: There is a one time fee of $30.00 for an Abacus kit which includes a backpack, and your own Abacus. Pay instructor directly; this supply fee is not included in tuition.

Advanced Minecraft Mods: Industrial Revolution Saturday, Oct. 1 (Ages 9-13)
This course introduces students to a whole new world of possibilities in Minecraft. Learn to tame the world of Minecraft by creating automated factories. Students will use mods such as Thermal Expansion, Mine Factory, and Industrial Craft to make automated factories. This class is for the intermediate to advanced Minecraft players. Please bring a lunch, snack and drink to class.
Minecraft Game Designer Saturdays: Feb. 4 and 11 (Ages 6-10)
Don’t just play Minecraft! Turn Minecraft from a game into a visual learning tool! This class will reinforce problem solving skills and spatial cognition through learning to create in-game puzzles, mazes, and obsta-cle courses. Student will learn basic game design skills while they collaborate to build Adventure maps, as well as some advanced features of Minecraft, such as Command Blocks. This class has a strong emphasis on creativity, exploration and cooperative learning experiences.
Mobile Game Development for IOS & AndroidMonday Evenings: Oct. 10 & 17 (Ages 9-13)
Learn to create games designed to run on mobile touch devices, such as iPhones, iPads, Android Devices, and Amazon Kindles (any computer, phone or tablet that supports HTML5). This camp will take you through all the steps of creating a mobile game. We will be using Constructs 2 awesome HTML5 game engine, which allows you to make your own touch-based mobile video games while learning the principles behind real life coding and game design.
Python CodingMonday Eves: April 10, 17 & 24 (Ages 10-14)
Get a great head start in learning how to code using Python, one of the key programming languages used by professional developers. Its syntax allows programmers to express concepts in fewer lines of code than would be possible in languages such as C++ or Java, making it the perfect coding language for beginners. Python is a text based language. Students should have familiarity with keyboarding, and basic computer skills.
Robotic Engineering with Lego EV3 Saturdays: Oct. 29 & Nov. 5 (Ages 9-13)
Combining the versatility of the LEGO building system with the most advanced technology Lego has ever developed, un-leash the creative powers of the new LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 set to create and com-mand robots that walk, talk, think and do anything you can imagine. Working in small teams, students will learn how to use gears, beams, motors, sensors, and programming blocks to create sophisticated robots.
Star Wars Jedi Movie Making Saturdays: Dec. 10 & 17 (Ages 6-10
From a galaxy far, far away, Star Wars comes to life! Work on a stop motion animated Lego Star Wars Movie. Pick your characters to star in your own mini-movie ...the possi-bilities are endless. Star Wars action figures, Legos and backdrops will be available for filming in class. Bring a USB drive to class.
Web Development & Coding Saturdays: Jan. 14 & 21 (Ages 10-14)
Learn to create interactive web pages using HTML5 and JavaScript. Even if you're an ab-solute beginner, you will learn how to make your own web-based games with interactive examples. You'll learn real-world program-ming skills in a real programming language: JavaScript, the language of the web. Bring a USB Drive every day. This is a text based coding class; students should be familiar with keyboarding.

Dance, Drama, Music & Manners
Ballet Fundamentals ISaturdays (Ages 3-4)
Learn Basic, fundamental ballet movement and terminology through creative exercise. You'll also develop age appropriate motor skills and musicality. New and returning students welcome. Instructors use methods designed to encourage exploration and foster creativity.
BalletFundamentals II Saturdays (Ages 5-6)
Learn Basic, fundamental ballet movement and terminology through creative exercise. You will also develop age-appropriate motor skills and musicality (building on elements learned in Fundamentals I). Fundamentals I is not a required pre-requisite: new and returning students are welcome.
Ballet for Teen Athletes Saturdays (Ages 8-18)
Many athletes use dance and ballet to cross-train and improve their physical skills. This class is geared to Dancers, Gymnasts, Swimmers, Skaters, Tennis, Soccer, Hockey, Football, Baseball players and more. Dancers are not the only ones doing Ballet. We all need stretching, flexibility, strength and footwork in our sport and life. Ballet technique and individual help is provided in the class.
Jazz and Tap: Preschool Wednesdays (Ages 3-6)
Let's jump and jive! This class introduces jazz dancing with the added fun of tap! An introduction to the movements and vocabulary of these disciplines are taught with the help of musical instruments, parachutes and scarves. Students will develop poise, strength and flexibility. Ballet and tap shoes are required. All levels welcome.
Jazz and Hip Hop Wednesdays (Ages 7-10)
Get into the Groove! Dancers will learn jazz and hip hop steps to fun and upbeat music. Come learn to leap, turn and shine. This class is not only fun but will improve posture, strength and flexibility in a positive and self-esteem building atmosphere. Jazz shoes are suggested. All levels welcome.
Drama Kids Fall Play:"The Grasshopper & the Ants" Tuesday Evenings Starting Sept. 20 (Grades 1-5)
Be in our school play where fun-loving Grasshoppers try to distract the hard-work-ing Ants. It's an elementary play where everyone is on stage throughout the show. This is a great way to boost confidence shy kids and a great way for your outgoing child to express themselves. No auditions and everyone performs!
Drama Kids: "Project Silver Screen" Tuesday Evenings Starting Jan. 24 (Grades 1-5)
Star in your very own movies! Drama Kids will create scenes and improvisations then film them to create a one-of-a-kind DVD that showcases their creativity and talents. From scripted scenes to off the cuff snippets, have fun creating a montage of Drama Kids life that you can share with your family and friends.
Drama Kids Spring Play: "It's A Pirate's Life" Tuesday Evenings Starting April 4 (Grades 1-5)
Ahoy Mateys and join the scariest crew to ever sail the seas. Our biggest production of the year takes place on a pirate ship. A great play for elementary actors where the focus is on being a part of this crew and everyone having fun. No auditions. All Materials included and a free performance for family and friends.
The Music Link: After School Piano Lessons Available Monday-Friday (Grades 1-12)
Thirty minute piano lessons are available after school through the Music Link. Lessons run continuously throughout the school year for students in grades 1-12 and meet once a week for 8 week sessions. Re-enroll for additional 8 week sessions as needed. Great for Kids Club kids!!! Professional teachers, affordable rates and convenient neighborhood locations.
Mannerly Manners® Escapade Tuesday Evenings (Ages 7-15)
“Learning is not a competition. Learning is a mindset requiring deep and deliberate practice with feedback and coaching.” A recent study by Pennsylvania University shows that your child’s success in academ-ics and life depends on learned pro-social skills. In this fast-paced, fun class your child will learn those skills with clever role-play activities. The class covers understanding the importance of introductions, conver-sation skills, telephone manners, and table manners.

Private Swim Lessons (Ages 4+)Do you want to work at your own pace? En-roll in private lessons! Set individual goals with your personal instructor. You can feel safe and comfortable while you are working on new water skills. No refunds for missed lessons. Prerequisite: at least 4 years old.
Preschool Step A (Ages 4+)This is your first swim lesson without a parent. You will focus on basic skills, including water adjustment, kicking, beginning underwater exploration, and fun! Prerequisite: must be at least 4 years old.
Preschool Step B (Ages 4-6)Are you comfortable in the water? Can you fully submerge on your own? This class is for you! You'll focus on basic skills, floating, underwater exploration, and fun! Prerequisites: must be at least 4 years old and able to fully submerge head without assistance.
Learn to Dive (Ages 7+)Learn basic diving skills, diving safety, and how to use the diving board with proper technique. You'll increase your flexibility and have lots of fun! Beginning divers with little or no previous instruction welcome. Prerequisites: must be at least 7 years old and confident in deep water. Classes cannot be pro-rated.
Intermediate Diving (Ages 9+)If you already have some diving experience, you can develop your skills in this class. Prerequisites: Must be at least nine years old (or recommended by instructor) and able to do dives in three different directions (front, back, reverse, inward, or twisting). Classes cannot be pro-rated.
Competitive Diving (Ages 9+)Take your diving to the next level. Divers with some competitive diving experience (High School Varsity, Junior Varsity, or age group) are welcome. Prerequisites: 11 years and under should be able to do five dives, 13 years and under should be able to do seven dives, and 14 years and older should be able to do eight dives. Classes cannot be pro-rated.
Level 1 Introduction to Water Skills Explore elementary skills that can you build upon as you learn to swim. You’ll work on floating on your front and back and submerging. You’ll also gain comfort and confidence in the water. Prerequisite: Must be 5 years old.
Level 2 Fundamental Aquatic Skills You will practice basic water safety, underwater swimming, and swimming while using a combined stroke on your front and back. Prerequisite: passed Level 1 or can float independently on front and back, and swim on front and back using arm and leg actions.
Level 3 Stroke DevelopmentYou’ll develop basic water skills and learn about water safety. You’ll focus on front crawl and back crawl with guided practice. Prerequisite: passed Level 2 or can jump into deep water and swim on both front and back for 15 yards.
Level 3-B Stroke DevelopmentIf you have been in Level 3 for more than two sessions, this class is for you! As a more experienced swimmer, you will focus on endurance and refinement of strokes. Prerequisites: Must have taken Level 3 for Two or more sessions, be comfortable in deep water, able to dive to do both front and back crawl.
Level 4 Stroke ImprovementYou will develop confidence and endurance through practice of front crawl, back crawl, and elementary backstroke. You’ll also learn and practice breaststroke and sidestroke. Basic water safety will be emphasized. Prerequisite: passed Level 3 or can swim front and back crawl, and elementary backstroke for 20 yards.
Level 5 Stroke RefinementYou will gain endurance by swimming for increased distances; coordinate and refine your sidestroke, butterfly and breaststroke; and build on water safety skills. Prerequisite: passed Level 4 or can swim front crawl, back crawl, and elementary backstroke for 25 yards plus have some basic breaststroke skills.
Level 6 Swimming and Skill ProficiencyRefine your strokes to swim with ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances. Focus on personal water safety, lifeguard readiness, diving, and fitness swimming. Prerequisite: Passed Level 5 or can swim front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, sidestroke, and butterfly.
Introduction to Competitive SwimmingLearn the basic skills of competitive swimming. You’ll focus on the four competitive stokes: butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle. You’ll also work on endurance, kicking, and stroke-specific drills. At the end of the session, you will have the opportunity to be evaluated and be placed on the Edina Swim Club. Instructor: Kay Zuccaro. Prerequisites: must be at least 8 years old, and able to swim 25 yards of freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke.

Let's get active! A wonderful opportunity for your young child to engage in an educational sports and fitness program that teaches the basic fundamentals and mechanics of nine different ball sports & seven key areas of motor development. In this course we will cover: baseball, volleyball, lacrosse, football, basketball, soccer, golf, hockey, and tennis. Build self-confidence, practice teamwork and improve fine and gross motor skills with us! In this non-competitive environment, children increase their cardiovascular fitness, muscle tone, hand-eye coordination, and reaction time.

Skateboard ClubWednesdays (Grades 3-5)
Learn how to skateboard - safely! All gear included. We use a zero-injury program, which has helped over one million students learn to ride. Some skills covered include proper stance, starting, gliding, stopping, carving, front and rear tail grab, tic-tacs, kick turns, and curb drop. Other skills will be added based on individual successes, although most students will be keeping their boards on the ground.
Gymnastics: Springers Tuesdays/Thursdays (Ages 7 - 12)
This beginner/intermediate class focuses on skill advancement and prepares gymnasts for our pre-team. Please note, this class takes place at Edina High School.

Kung Fu-Wu Shu FencingFencing: Introduction & Level II Wednesdays (Intro ages 6-9, Levell II ages 8+)
Fencing is a vigorous sport that develops stamina, quick reactions, speed, accuracy of movement and excellent coordination. Attacking, defense, timing and intense tactics are all integrated into this beginning class. Fencing is a great work out and is fun for the whole family. We provide everything needed to fence (mask, jacket, glove, and weapon). The fencer need only to come dressed comfortably (for freedom of movement) including long sweat pants and running shoes.
Fencing: Training & Competition Wednesdays (Ages 13-18)
Minnesota Sword Play Fencing Team is recruiting, and all skill level–beginners to advanced–are welcome. Competitions start in November and December and are usually held after school. Options include girl and boy squads in Foil, Epee, and Saber. Fencing has a language of its own and promotes fitness, confidence, positive body awareness, concentration and friendship. We provide all safety equipment.

Enrichment Programming at Creek Valley
Abacus Club: Mental and Logical Math Spring (Grades K-5)Evenings all year at Cornelia (see page 4)
Challenge your fear of math! Come and learn the ancient art of Abacus. Children will learn to move the beads on the ABACUS in combinations and convert a picture to numbers. As you progress through our eight levels you will begin to visualize the imaginary Abacus and move the beads to perform “Mental Math.” Positive outcomes include improved speed and accuracy in math. Children set their own pace and we offer personalized attention to ensure the best results and fun! Please note: There is a one time fee of $30.00 for an Abacus kit which includes a backpack, and your own Abacus. Pay instructor directly; this supply fee is not included in tuition.

Each season we offer classes that enhance foundational drawing techniques, train students in color theory, and boost self-confidence. Our content is based on child-friendly subjects that open the imagination and stretch the mind.

Crazy Chemworks Winter (Grades 1-5)
Start your chemistry career off right with Mad Science’s Crazy Chemworks. Observe chemistry that happens in the blink of an eye, learn how to work in a lab, tell the difference between acids and bases, bond molecules together in ooey-gooey slime, and delve into the secrets of hydrogen bonding. At the end of each class, you’ll add to your own lab by taking home a Graduated Cylinder, Action Flask, Reaction Tube Kit & pH Paper, Professor Beakerdude, and a batch of Mad Science Slime created by you!
Creek Valley Chess Club Fall & Winter/Spring (Grades K-5)
New and returning students invited. Join this “sport of the mind” and be part of your school’s chess club. The lessons progress from rudimentary concepts through higher-level theories. Our activity books are formatted to be accessible to beginners, yet challenge intermediate and advanced students to apply deeper understanding of chess concepts. YEL Chess has proven excellence in dozens of schools with state champions, individual state and national champions, and numerous state trophy winners on our rosters.
Creek Valley ChoirFall (Grades 3-5)
Singers will rehearse and perform a wide-range of children’s choir literature. We will focus on vocal development and ensemble singing, while incorporating challenges such as choreography, 2 or 3 part harmony, and instrument accompaniments. At the end of the session, we will perform a concert during the school day for Creek Valley students and staff, and an evening concert for parents.
Drama Kids Play: The Grasshopper & the Ants Fall (Grades 1-5)
Be in our school play where fun-loving Grasshoppers try to distract the hard-working Ants. It’s an elementary play where everyone is on stage throughout the show. A little shy or a natural ham, join our cast and build new skills and friendships. A great way to boost confidence while creating character. All materials provided. Free admission to the final performance. No auditions and everyone performs!
Drama Kids in Project Silver ScreenWinter (Grades 1-5)
Star in your very own movies! Drama Kids will create scenes and improvisations then film them to create a one-of-a-kind DVD that showcases their creativity and talents. From scripted scenes to off-the-cuff snippets, have fun creating a montage of Drama Kids life that you can share with your family and friends. Drama Kids Play: It’s a Pirate’s Life Spring (Grades 1-5)
Ahoy Mateys and join the “scariest” crew to ever sail the seas. Our biggest production of the year takes place on an imaginary pirate ship. A great play for young actors where the focus is on fun and being a part of a crew. No auditions. All materials included and a free performance for family and friends.
Learning SpanishAll Year (Grades K-5)
Learning Spanish at a young age stimulates cognitive thinking, improves English language skills, and increases global and cultural awareness. Our long-term Spanish enrichment program provides an affordable and convenient solution to learning Spanish at a young age. Useful conversation and vocabulary skills are taught using our unique and dynamic method: the Building Block Method of Learning. Get on board this lifelong language journey. Every day will be filled with games, songs, and fun cultural activities!
Levels I-II: For beginning students who have no or little previous Spanish experience.
Levels III-IV: For students who have taken 2 previous semesters of Futura Spanish or 1 year of Spanish exposure.
Advanced II: For students who have taken 4 previous semesters of Futura Spanish or 1+ years of Spanish exposure.

Meet Creek Valley KIDS Club Manager Becky Marchan
Fully accredited by the Minnesota Afterschool Accreditation Program (MAAP), KIDS Club enriches and extends learning for students in grades K-3 with programming before and after school, on release days, and during the summer. Join us every day, or drop in when it fits with your schedule!
At Creek Valley KIDS Club we strive to offer a high-quality program that is fun andsafe for kids. . .and flexible and convenient for parents! We work in partnership with Principal Kari Dahlquist and Creek Valley teachers and staff to promote a positive and enriching school
climate for the students and families we share.
Some of the highlights of our program include activity clubs led by our staff, naturestudy in our school’s creek and prairie areas, and sledding and ice skating outdoors inwinter. We encourage our students to become leaders with our Third Grade Mentor program. Each spring, older students help plan and lead activities for younger kids before they move up to Edina WISE Guys.

Creek Valley KIDS ClubLEGO® Mania – Ticket to Ride Fall (Grades K-5)
Delve into the history and mechanics of favorite amusement park rides in this imaginative unit. Students will construct a Carousel Swing, Tilt a Whirl, Loop de Loop ride, Swing boat ride, and Merry Go Round. Lessons incorporate principles of physics, described in a way children can understand, such as “G-force” inertia and momentum, as well as math concepts such as “there are 360 degrees in a circle”. These engaging lessons will give students an understanding of the physical forces they experience every day.

YOUTH ENRICHMENT PROGRAM GUIDELINES:
After School Check-In: Students enrolled in an after-school enrichment class will be escort-ed to the cafeteria by their classroom teacher and checked in by Kids Club staff and given a snack. Instructors will pick up students from the cafeteria and escort them to the room. Please notify your classroom teacher and/or Kids Club about your child’s enrollment in an after school class.
Weather: Refunds are not available due to inclement weather, if class is cancelled because of weather, we will do our best to schedule a makeup.
Prorating: We do not prorate classes or non- school day camps.
Late Pick-Up: Parents arriving later than 5 minutes after the end of class will be charged $1 per minute. Payment is due at pick-up.
Registration Confirmation: You will receive an email confirmation if you include an email address in your family profile.
Cancellation and Refund Policy: You may cancel your class registration up to five business days (M-F) before class begins without penalty. Cancellations fewer than five business days before the class we will assess a $10 cancellation fee and a credit slip will be issued for the remaining balance. Credit slips do not expire. Edina CES cannot offer refunds or credit slips on or after the first day of class. Participants will be notified if there is a change in the date/location of the class, if the class is canceled or if the class is full. Edina CES reserves the right to cancel a class due to low enrollments.
