E.L.T Syllabus - 2012 Teacher: Silvia Ciancio Year: …2nd … General Aims: 1. develop the ability to use English effectively for the purpose of practical communication. 2. acquire knowledge about English grammar and vocabulary , according to FCE level. 3. be able to notice and correct mistakes in spelling, grammar and vocabulary in written English. 4. get knowledge about grammar rules and be able to apply them in written and oral work. 5. revise all the structures seen. 6. understand texts in English, getting the main idea, scanning a text to be able to speak briefly about it. 7. understand the organization of a text and the ability to find specific information in a short time (written English) 8. be able to understand information given orally, follow instructions (listening), get fluency, develop the ability to communicate putting all the aspects of speaking into practice ( pronunciation, tone, correct vocabulary) 9. write texts for different purposes, in different styles according to the requirements. Unit 1 Vocabulary: family-related words. Collocations and expressions, prepositions. Unit 2 Vocabulary: food-related words, phrasal verbs, word formation. Present simple, present continuous in contrast. Adverbs of frequency for each tense. Stative verbs. Nouns: countable and uncountable, quantifiers. Past simple, past continuous in contrast. Time expressions for each tense. Used to and would, be used to and get used to.

Relative clauses. Defining and non-defining. The use of relative pronouns who, which, where, when, that, whose.Temporals: as soon as, when, until, before, the moment, by the time, after.

Unit 5

Future simple, be going to. Future continuous. Future perfect simple

Unit 6

Conditional sentences type 0, 1, 2 and 3. I wish/ if only.

Vocabulary: sport-related words, phrasal verbs, word formation.

Unit 7

Past perfect simple, past perfect continuous.Questions tags.Subject and object questions. Negative questions.

Unit 8

Modals. Semi modals.

Unit 9

Passive voice.Tenses, by, and with.Gerunds, infinitives and modal verbs.Unit 10

Assessment Criteria:

In order to get a pass, students must comply with the following: Attendance: 80% Assignments: 70% Participation: 100%
