Johnstown Branch, American Aissociation of University WomenBranch Meeting, February 4,2006

President Jo Romani called the meeting to order at 2:00 PM.

Recording Secretary's Report: Karen Frieben gave a cursory summary of the abbreviatedminutes for the December 12"* luncheon meeting.

Treasurer's Report: Loretta Ciupak reported that she renewed a CD at Northwest Bank foreleven months at 4.5 %.

President's Report: Jo Romani asked members to vote on a non-member representative for theState Equity Award. She provided a list of people and organizations for members to vote on.Linda Rovder Fleming was selected to represent our branch. Jo wrote to Dr. Donato Zucco,Johnstown's mayor, to ask him to proclaim March 8*** International Woman's Day in Johnstown.

Program Vice President: Kay Kusibab said the next meeting will be March 20*'' with Dr.Donato Zucco speaking on "What's Great About Greater Johnstown?". Kay also remindedmembers if they were interested in an April trip to Dane Castle, please contact her forarrangements.

Membership Vice President: Mary Lou Wyandt said that the next branch meeting is open to thepublic at no cost. She asked members to bring a guest. Mary Lou also had laminated postersavailable for members to post at various sites around Johnstown. Additionally, she composed aform on the AAUW letterhead for donors to the Convention to use for tax purposes.

STANDING COMMITTEES'REPORTS

Rules/By Laws: Jo Romani reported for the absent Dottie Glass that the By-Laws were adjustedto meet the state requirements. She made copies available to members.

Scholarship: Maryann Minahan said that scholarships will be given to students from Forest HillsHS and Johnstown Christian HS. They will be given out in conjunction with the Ifesinilj at theirSunnehanna banquet in May.

Public Policy: Jo Romani reported for the absent Barbara Procko that a letter had been sent toCongressman John Murtha. She stated our concerns about a tax cut reducing financial supportneeded social programs.

Community Affairs: Mary DePra reminded members of the Johnstown Symphony Concert nextSaturday February 11*''.

Women ofCambria County: Jo reported that the books will be sold at the convention.

Book Sale: Lee Rager said she cannot handle anymore books at this time. Please store anydonated books until spring.

CRITERIA for PENN HIGHLANDS COMMUNITY COLLEGE

The AAUW grant will be payable only to the college, in the student's name.

Student must be at least 25 years of age.

Student must have conpleted at least one-half of the credits needed forgraduation in her field of study.

Penn Highlands assumes full responsibility for choosing student who willreceive AAUW grant, following AAUW guidelines.

AAUW to be notified by mail once the selection is made and accepted bythe student.

Board Meeting, January 14,2008Home of Margaret Barron

In Attendance: Margaret Barron, Sara Barron, Mary DePra, Maryann Minahan, LeeRager, Marilyn Sandusky, Paiila Sandusky, Barbara Zaborowski, Ann Furlong, and AnneFattman

Presiding: Sara Barron

Program: Sara reported that the speaker for the February luncheon will be jane Allshouse& Gary Homer; the March meeting program will be "One Shared World," a program toraise awareness of global poverty and generate dialogue about what Americans—especially working women like us— can do to help tackle it. Marilyn Sandusky has calledthe membership to inform them of the February luncheon choices, cost and reservationdetails.

Anne Fattman reported that she had still not received materials from the State HumanitiesCouncil on available programs, but expected them within two weeks. The speaker fromIndiana is no longer available; however, Sara and She found 2 speakers online: onespeaker from Philadelphia who does a presentation on the Underground Railroad with aquilt exhibit, the other from Altoona (storyteller). It was decided to have her pursue thesetwo speakers to find their availability. There is concem that arrangements can be made intime to give proper publicity.

The group worked on the Conversation with the Branch questions rating group interest invarious state/national initiatives. Sara will relay our answers to the state.

The Five Star Branch applications. Branches may submit entries in the followingcategories: Programs (Unique), Membership, Public Policy, Communications,Community Action and Fimd Raising. We will submit a Unique Program (AnneFattman—^"Freedom Train") and Fund Raising (Lee Rager—^Book Sale) and possiblycommunications.

Get Out the Vote Project. The committee has met with Fred Smith of the CountyElection Board. They found that the voter files are incomplete, with no phone numbers.It would be much too labor-intensive to update. Instead, a kit will be made up to give toother agencies who are interested in increasing voter registration. Voters must beregistered one month prior to the elections (March 24"* for Primary, October 4"* forGeneral.) Possible organizations might be groups such as school key clubs to helpregister younger voters.

Barbara Procko will organize a voter guide for the general election, as she did for theGovemor's race.
