About the Gift of Music

The Gift of Music is a free early childhood music program designed by the Joyful Noise C-Fund (a part of Joyful Noise Christian

Childcare), which is a non-profit giving program under the umbrella of First Presbyterian Church in Grand Haven, Michigan. It began

in 2013 when Joyful Noise and the C-Fund aimed to create a program in the community that would directly benefit underserved

young children in the area that were not already enrolled at the center. Since its development, A Gift of Music has provided several

classes to children from infancy through preschool age, offering high quality musical instruction as well as a free instrument, CD,

and take-home materials! Pleased at having received a grant from Mary Anne Sherwood Families and Children Field of Interest

Fund in 2014 from the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation, the C-Fund and A Gift of Music will present two consecutive

three-week courses, free of charge, to A.M. and P.M (respectively) Head Start preschool classes in Grand Haven. The classes will

offer 30 minutes of fun and age appropriate music education, along with a free slide whistle and take home materials for each

participant.

About the “Sing and Slide” Class

The “Sing and Slide” class was created by Instructor and Gift of Music program coordinator Chantal McDaniel for children from 2-5

years old. The program will focus on fun movements, melodies and simple music concepts. The music program is secular and not

faith-based. Children will be exposed to various instruments throughout the class, but instruction will primarily focus on activities

and songs to be used with the slide-whistle. A free slide whistle, as well as take home materials, will be provided for each enrolled

child.

About The Teacher

A Gift of Music classes are led by Chantal McDaniel, a senior staff member of Joyful Noise Christian Childcare and music teacher of

14 years. Chantal has created and implemented the early childhood music program at Joyful Noise for 12 years, coupled with

private music instruction on guitar, piano, voice and flute. Her education includes years of formal music training as well as an

Associates of Arts and a major in Elementary Education, Language Arts, at GVSU. She is currently studying Public Relations at South

Hampshire University and continues to teach music classes for young children within the community. Her philosophy combines the

age-appropriate movement and fun of childhood with foundational music concepts along with Orff and Suzuki methods. Chantal is

CPR/First Aid certified as well as background screened and DHS Central Registry cleared. More details, a teacher biography and

examples of the Gift of Music program curriculum as well as Joyful Noise Christian Childcare’s music program can be found at

www.JoyfulNoiseKids.com. Program questions may be emailed to [email protected].

Once upon a time, Joyful Noise Christian Childcare wanted to build a fund that would

support wonderful opportunities for not only the fantastic young citizens they were

“growing”, but also for children and families all around their community! They created a

fund to provide for all of the goals that they had in mind, which included:

Technology: Increased availability of up-to-date technology for students and

teachers, providing children with quality instruction and staff with training and

support.

Equipment and Materials: Funds to be used for outdoor play equipment, learning

materials, program supplies, special programs for children and general

center improvements.

Early Childhood Advocacy and Resources for the Community: Resources and

open events for early childhood advocacy and fun family events, parent events

and new programs. Also read about our future plans to serve our community at

www.CThePossibilities.org!

As a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization, Joyful Noise Christian Childcare has spent many

years operating at a profit loss or very close margin. Our goal is to consistently grow our

C.Fund in order to advance our program and lift up our students, teachers, and families,

along with the entire community around us!

Can you help our story end “happily ever after”?
