The Profiles

Profile is a User-State Environment , Profile contains Personal Settings of the User like:

1.Documents & Settings

2.Desktop Settings

3.Start Menu Icons

4.Shortcuts

5.Application Data

6.Internet Settings

7.Favorites

8. program file setting

- The profile information will be saved in document and setting.

Types of profiles:-

1- local profile 2- Roaming profile 3- Mandatory profile

How to check the type of profile:

- right click on my computer

- properties

- advance

- click setting on user profile

- in type and status : showed (local or other )

1.Local Profile

A local user profile is created the first time you log on to a computer and is stored on a computer's local hard disk. Any changes made to your local user profile are specific to the computer on which you made the changes.

Note: By default any domain user has local profile

2.Roaming Profile

A roaming user profile is created by your system administrator and is stored on a server. This profile is available every time you log on to any computer on the network. Changes made to your roaming user profile are updated on the server.

3.Mandatory ProfileA mandatory user profile is a roaming profile that can be used to specify particular settings for individuals users. Only system administrators can make changes to mandatory user profiles.

How to create Roaming Profile :-

1- create share folder in the server give it share level permission and security level permission

2- open active directory user and computer -> start – program – administrative tools - active directory user and computer

3. right click on the user select properties

4- click profile -> on the profile path give the path of the share folder

eg : \\system name \shared folder\ username 5- Apply Ok

To check :-------- login as user and check the output

- right click on my computer

- properties

- advance

- click setting on user profile

- in type and status : showed (Roaming or other )

- create some files on desktop and logoff from the system and logon as same user account in the other system and check the output

How to create Mandatory Profile :-

1- create share folder in the server give it share level permission and security level permission

2- open active directory user and computer -> start – program – administrative tools - active directory user and computer3-right click on the user select properties

4-click profile and give the path of the share folder

eg : \\system name \shared folder\ username

5- Apply Ok

6- open shared folder right click folder on the user name select sharing and security

5- select –security

6- select advanced select owner

7- select the administrator and check the Box

8- replace owner

9- Apply Ok

10- open the folder rename the file NTUSER.DAT to NTUSER.MAN ((note : the file NTUSER.DAT is file system is hidden by default . to see this file you need to unhidden files -> on my computer open any drive and click tools -> folder option -> view -> show hidden folders or file ))

12- right click folder on the user name select sharing and security select –security

1- select advanced 2- select owner 3- give user owner 4- and apply

7- check the box Allow inheritable permission from 8- - check the box replace permission entire on all child - login as user and check the output

To check :-1 . Logon by (this user)

Home Folder.Home Folder is a centralized location of the user's personal files (data) Home directories and My Documents make it easier for an administrator t back up user files and manage user accounts by collecting many or all of user's files in one location

How can create home folder 2-12-1-steps : 1- Create share folder in the server give it share level permission and security level permission 2- open active directory user and computer -> start – program – Administrative tools - active directory user and computer

3-right click on the user select properties

4-click profile and select connect to and select any drive (z ,I . . . ) and give the path of the share folder

eg : \\system name\ folder name\ username

5- Apply Ok

For check:-- login as user and check the output

Disk Quota

. You can use disk quotas on drives formatted with the NTFS file system to monitor and limit the amount of disk space available to individual users..Disk quota control disk space usage for NTFS Partitions Prevent further disk space use and log an event when a user exceeds a specified disk space limit.

How to create disk quota:-

- right click on the drive ( C , D , E ,F ) select properties select Quota

- and check the Box

- select

- Select quota -> new quota entries

- add the user

- give the quota limit

-5- Apply -> Ok - login as user and check the output
