Overview

Sample recently took the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT). CogAT measures thedevelopment of verbal, mathematical, and spatial reasoning abilities that are essential forsuccess in school. Students with different patterns of scores on CogAT have different learningstyles. By knowing Sample's learning preferences, teachers can help him achieve greatersuccess in school.

Sample's Profile of Test Scores

Sample's scores on the three batteries do not differ significantly. All three of his scores are inthe above-average range. Students with above-average reasoning scores learn relativelyquickly. The following recommendations may help Sample achieve in school:

- Encourage Sample to discover concepts and principles rather than always providinganswers. Projects that develop the student's interests can be particularly effective.

- Challenge Sample with materials, projects, and problems that are more difficult thanthose used for the typical student.

- Expose Sample to different learning or problem-solving strategies to help himunderstand their value for different tasks.

- When working in groups, permit Sample to learn by explaining information, helping tosummarize, and modeling higher-order thinking skills.

More Information on Sample's Scores

The sections to the left explain Sample's performance using different types of comparisonsand score scales.

- The Age Scores section compares his performance to students across the nation who arealso 9.0 years old.

- The Grade Scores section compares his performance to students across the nation whoare also in grade 3.

Each of these sections includes one or more scores. The Stanine reports Sample'sperformance on a scale from 1 (lowest) to 9 (highest). The Percentile Rank indicates thepercentage of students in each comparison group whose scores fell at or below the scoreobtained by Sample.

Sample's ability profile is 7A. Visit www.cogat.com for more detailed information on profile 7A.Click on the "Interactive Profile Interpretation System" button. Enter 7A in the "Input Your ScoreProfile" section. Click "Search".

Sample was recently given the Iowa Assessments. This report is designed to give youinformation about Sample's achievement level in core subject areas. Along with theresults of this assessment, classroom work, grades, and other test results should alsobe reviewed for a more complete picture of academic progress.

Sample's Achievement TodayThe graph to the left provides the National Percentile Rank (NPR) for each test and testcomposite in the assessment. The NPR indicates the percent of students in the samegrade who obtained a lower score than Sample.

Scores from 75-99 are in the above average range. Students with ELA Total and/orMathematics Total scores in this range may be ready for more advanced work includingextending ideas when reading, developing an advanced reading vocabulary, or writingwith logic and clarity, as well as expanding on higher level problem solving and dataanalysis skills in mathematics.

Scores from 25-74 are in the low average to high average range. Students with ELATotal and/or Mathematics Total scores in this range may continue to improve bydeveloping such skills as drawing conclusions when reading, expanding readingvocabulary, or writing with attention to sentence structure and purpose, as well assolving number sentences and reading basic charts and graphs.

Scores from 1-24 are in the below average range. Students with ELA Total and/orMathematics Total scores in this range may require reinforcement in such areas asunderstanding stated information when reading, developing a basic reading vocabulary,or writing with standard usage and grammar, as well as understanding numberproperties or solving simple number sentences.

* = Math computation is not included in Math Total or composite scores that include Math Total. Please contact your child's teacher if you need assistance with score interpretation.Your student’s Lexile® range is 750L-850L. Your student’s Quantile® range is 685Q-785Q. Visit www.metametricsinc.com for more information on the Lexile Framework for Reading and the Quantile Framework for Mathematics.
