PROFESSOR RAFAEL CORBALÁN IN THE NEWS Professor Rafael Corbalán was recently interviewed for a documentary on Vicente Blasco Ibañez´novel, The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse that will be shown on Spain’s National television network (TVE), and other international ones next year. The documentary highlights Blasco’s important propagandistic contributions to the Allies during WWI. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypses criticized German aggression in WWI, and became a best seller in the United States in 1918. In 1921, Metro adapted the book to the screen, and Rudolph Valentino, interpreting Julio Desnoyers, became one of Hollywood’s first sex symbols, and the first Latin Lover of the silver screen.          Professor   Rafael   Corbalán   was   recently  interviewed   for   a   documentary   on   Vicente  Blasco   Ibañez´novel,   The   Four   Horsemen   of  the  Apocalypse  that  will  be  shown  on  Spain’s  National  television  network  (TVE),  and  other  international  ones  next  year.

His   most   recent   publication   is   Españoles   en   la  Historia  de   los  Estados  Unidos/Spaniards     in  US  History.  

Vicente   Blasco   Ibañez,  Joaquín   Sorolla,   Salvador  Dalí  and   the   perhaps   less   well   –known   Juan   Pujoi   “Garbo”,  David   Farrgut   and   Bernardo  de   Gálvez,     are   just   some   of  the   great   Spanish  protagonists   of   this   book  about   the   ties   that   link   Spain  and   the  US   from   its   founding  days   to   the   present.       The  author   is   Rafael   Corbalán,   a  former   journalist   with   a  degree   in   journalism   and  public   relations   from   the  Universidad  Autónoma  of  Barcelona,  Spain  and  a   PhD   from   the   Graduate   Center/CUNY   and  currently   professor   of   Spanish   at   Borough   of  Manhattan   Community   College.   The   book   was  recently   published   by   the   National   Hispanic  Foundation  for  the  Humanities

“The  book  deals  with  the  diplomatic  and  socio-­‐economic   relations   between  Spain  and  the  United  States  since  the   American   Revolution   until  today.   The   book   includes  biographies   of   Spaniards   who  have   contributed   significantly   to  the  history  of   the  United   States.  Some   topics   included   are   the  economic   and   military   help  provided   by   Hispanics   to   the  American   Revolution,   and   the  exile   of   Spanish   intellectuals   to  the   United   States   after   the  Spanish  Civil  War,  such  as  Tomás  Navarro   Tomás,   Joan   Corominas  

and  Juan  Ramón  Jiménez.”
